Your club not wanting to commit to a player with a rich injury history. Playing it safe, smart from United's perspective.

You're right apart from the quality thing. A fit Boateng is a lot better than what you have.

Agreed. I just don't think he'll be as fit as he was.

All these contradicting reports about Boateng, Toby and Maguire makes it seem like the media have even less of a clue than normal. They all seem to be going with their guess now in the hope that they’re right. Whatever we’re doing, we seem to be doing it quietly.

If you do nothing, it does not make a lot of noise.

 Never lose faith! We have to be up to something... right? :nervous: In all seriousness I was thinking about our squad last night and was pleased at who we had. After a summer of Cafe negativity It was like I’d forgotten who played for us. No doubt we can be improved but we should be ok. Here’s to hoping Sanchez is like a new signing!

All reports out of Germany had Boateng not wanting any part of us and that was presumably on a long term deal with higher wages/security. Now we're trying to get him on loan?

This screams an "ah, we tried" type situation for when we inevitably sign no one.

What is Bayern's incentive to loan him to us? Or for Boateng to leave for a year to a club clearly not comitted to him long term?

Only way I see this happening is if Martial goes with a similar deal in return.

There’s no value in the market and no opportunity to improve us at this stage. So how about we act like we’re the biggest club in the world and walk away from the ensuing deadline day train crash with perhaps a small amount of residual dignity intact? Let’s have some faith in our playing squad and what is apparently a world class manager. Bring on Leicester.

What value and what market? The market has been broken for a long time now. Richarlison for 50m, Van Dijk for 75m and now Kepa for 71m is a reflection of what the market is now. And guess what? It is not changing anytime soon. We either pay up like other clubs do or we end up becoming the Champions of the 'value and net spend league'.

As for faith in the squad, I really want to beleive this is just a sanctimonious cliche thrown about these days because there is no amount of faith that will turn Lingard, Young and Valencia(our 2 fulbacks and Mourinho's trusted allies esp in the big games where Mourinho sets up not to concede), Fellaini, Rashford, Herrera, Jones, Smalling, Rojo into world beaters when the lot of them should have been binned years ago.

Maybe you believe Fred alone will close the gap between us and the other challengers cos we sure as hell ain't winning jack this season.

Apparently they cannot as they do not have 8 homegrown players and have reached their non homegrown quota. Or they need to offload one non homegrown player.
They had 17 non-homegrown players last season which is the quota, but now for this season Sanchez has to be registered too so from their current squad they either have to loan out or sell one non-homegrown player to fit him in. If they bring in another then that is two they've got to offload. Like you said they've got 5 homegrown players so there is space for 3 more which I guess is why they've been trying for Grealish.

Spurs are in the shit. Of course we could help by taking Alderweireld if they were a bit more accommodating.

I'm starting to understand now, Catalans are terrible at geography.

Hahaha, right, because we are looking for a player like him when we are stocked in that position.

Exactly what I was thinking. Could have been around when we were negotiating with Fellaini. Someone to just bolster up the squad. His agent did say "But I told Axel: 'At Dortmund you are the number one, at Manchester you are one of the many... and at Napoli too'."

I believe we can get more out of our current squad through better management of it. I think a world class option perhaps wasn’t available for the positions we need to strengthen in, regardless of resources available to us. Thanks for your opinion.

That would be a right kick in levys tiny ball sack

Woodward: "we will give you 50M now"

Levy: "He is not leaving for less than £70,000,000."

Woodward: "sigh, we will just get him for free then"

Except spurs have the option to extend Alderweireld's contract by a year. If they do so they will also activate a clause that means he'll only cost 25 million. So he'd be a year older and we would still have to pay, but it would be a significantly lower sum than the 7/ million we're being quoted now.

I really dont think Maguire would do well at manutd with Mou in charge, players really hardly improve under him, if the next season would be worth anything, i believe proven players who have reached their peak are best under Mou. he just has everything to make him average once he joins united..
Toby on the other hand is what you all should be looking at.
Also the system at the red part of Manchester has to have a thorough look in, its like since after Fergie, players become a lot below their playing ability once they wear the jersey.
the only reason i'd even suggest Toby is because the team needs a Leader/coordinator.. Zlatan was that IMO
