Pretty annoying that the Woody thinks Maguire/Toby are too expensive. I dont care what they cost, we need improvements now and I'd sooner see 60m invested in the squad than lining the Glazer's pockets. We've got the money so spend it ffs. Might as well pack it in before the season even starts...

Virgil Van Dijk money for Jacob Harry Maguire

I’d rather say 75M for Vvd and Maguire? Very similar players, both not even close to being worth it. Two great headers and good passers of the ball, both limited at reading the game and being defensively smart. Both going for challenges they should stay away from, opening space for attackers should they lose said challenge

This is being put out by the club. Everything saying exactly the same.

Think it’s becoming clearer that we’re not getting anyone.

I don’t particularly mind if we don’t sign a centre-back as I think our current ones are acceptable. I do, however, think we should’ve improved in other areas, specifically right-wing/right-sided forward.

We're going to sign one of them. We simply have to. I can imagine a scenario where we wait until the very last minute to bring in Mina for 40m (When we could have bought Toby or Maguire for 20m more) and then we need another CB next season. And the saga continues.

Just imagine a few short years ago clubs like Fulham, Wolves, West Ham, Everton etc going out and spending £100m or more each. On pretty nice players, too. The money in the PL is bananas.

IMO a CB is the least of our problems. Our defense was the 2nd best last season, IMO getting a right forward and then a left full back are bigger priorities.

Priority in order IMO should be
RW (or right forward)
LB
CB

Sign a young player with potential -> Very costly , no way
Sign an experienced player -> No he's too old

Story of our season.

Mmm watching the crazy end to the market . Looks like we are going all in for a center back hopefully it's Toby . Any chance of us making a late charge for Fekir as a replacement for Mata if Mata leaves for any Italian team later .

This. Which is also why I assume a lot of the rumor mill is distraction by the club. We may not actually sign someone in the end but we have certainly been trying to sign a RW or LB.

Why can't we just launch a bunch of cash at PSV and get Lozano in for the right wing? It would help solve a problem position and get a bit of positivity back even if we don't get a CB.

If you go by goals conceded, yes. However it needs to be considered that DDG had the most saves to make out the top 6 keepers, and by far.

I covered this earlier.

City conceded the fewest goals but we weren't far behind. The problem is the goals conceded column was helped massively by De Gea.

Saves 2017/18
Top 6 goalkeepers
David De Gea - 37 games - 115 saves - 28 goals conceded - 4.1 saves/goal conceded
Petr Cech - 34 games - 91 saves - 48 goals conceded - 1.9 saves/goal conceded
Hugo Lloris - 36 games - 86 saves - 35 goals conceded - 2.5 saves/goal conceded
Thibaut Courtois - 35 games - 76 saves - 34 goals conceded - 2.2 saves/goal conceded
Ederson - 36 games - 58 saves - 26 goals conceded - 2.2 saves/goal conceded
Simon Mignolet - 19 games - 36 saves - 25 goals conceded - 1.4 saves/goal conceded
Loris Karius - 19 games - 31 saves - 13 goals conceded - 2.4 saves/goal conceded

We can't rely on De Gea to keep bailing us out all the time and I think Mourinho knows this hence why we've been after a third CB in three years.

When our goalkeeper is making that many saves, there's a problem with the defence. We can't keep relying on De Gea to bail us out.

Well feck, we may end up behind City and Liverpool anyway. None of the improvements look to get us past them anyway. Either way, we’ll go as far as Lukaku gets us. And if he goes down, we’re fecked.

Not just that, it's not far fetched to think that Jose is too conservative in his approach because he doesn't trust fully the CBs he has at the moment.

He's best position is LW if I'm not wrong
The lack of quality RW is ridiculous, even players who started out as RW and were doing pretty well there are now being concentrated into LW - players like Justin Kluivert and Leon Bailey
Pulisic is not ready IMO, Malcolm was good to OK but I never felt he looked special
I have no idea why we didn't go for Mahrez; looking at the prices being thrown around, 60 million for Mahrez is a steal

You're correct on all counts.

Although on the Mahrez front, he'd have gone to City ahead of United even if United would have wanted him.

If we can get Boateng on loan it would be a be a pretty good deal (provided he stays fit)
We can just buy Alderweireld for 25 next year when the loan ends, but things are never that simple

You can't sign Toby for free next summer. How many more times does this need to be said?
So what do you make of your non-homegrown situation with you needing to sell/loan one out in order to register Sanchez - and that is before including any possible signings you manage to make in the next 23 hours. Must suck that you've put all your eggs in the Grealish basket (3 homegrown spaces left) with that not really going anywhere.

Not just that, it's not far fetched to think that Jose is too conservative in his approach because he doesn't trust fully the CBs he has at the moment.
That is a possibility too. Pretty damning on Lindelof and Bailly but we'll see how they do.

So let me get this right. Mourinho and Boateng has a personal call and Boateng leaks this honorable call to the media straight after, saying he has higher ambitions. The day after he is suddenly keen again and also lets the media know straight away. Yes, seems very likely these are lies created by scumbag writers. They should be ashamed of themselves
