25m for Boateng? That's almost as insulting as the offer we got from Barca for Pogba.
Nope. He's a player Bayern want to sell, and he'll ask for crazy wages. Sounds like a good offer we've made, all considered. Bayern themselves would not pay anymore if they were looking to buy Boateng off us for example.

Is he really 'far more proven'? Alisson has had one good season as a starter at Roma and Kepa has had two seasons featuring regularly at Bilbao.

Sure, Alisson has performed at a higher level, but it's not like he's got a huge body of work behind him either and they've both largely been signed because of little over a years worth of performances.
Alisson has more than 1 good season at Roma. He has been Brazil starter for a while which previous GK record transfer Ederson couldn't displace him

That's good, he's not worth more than that with his injury record and that fact he's regressed a lot.

The Alisson factor really does make this look like desperation from Chelsea.
It's definitely desperation and panic. We probably didn't expect Courtois to not show up. The club probably figured that him coming back and meeting Sarri face to face could convince him to stay. When he didn't, a move for Kepa exploded into life.

If they're willing to pay that much, they ought to go for the Atletico keeper. He's superb. Jan Oblak.

Not really, wouldn't say he's worth a great deal more.

Agreed. The funny thing about JB is that I always heard in the past that he is good, and I can only assume it must be in the games I don't watch, in fairness I don't follow the Bundesliga, but do try to catch a glimpse of what Bayern are up to in the big games in their league or in the champions league, and in those I was left unimpressed or at least saw no reason to take interest.
I'd say he passes the ball well for a CB but I don't rate him as good at defending.
I feel the same about that Dortmund CB everyone would rave about who ended up joining Bayern too. Good distribution, and occasionally positioning, but every time I have tried to watch his game he'd commit what would be considered a "howler" in the premier league. (Can't be bothered to look for his name on google)

You'd rather us bid £50 million for someone who's not anywhere near worth it?

Goalkeeper is the cheapest position on the pitch and the last 2 inbound PL keepers have cost £66 and supposedly £72m. If you think we can buy starting outfield players for £25m you're deluded. The market is what it is and we can either sit on our hands and claim no value in the market, or keep up with our rivals and spend the money required to improve our squad.

and why Oblak should join Chelsea?

When you're offering that kind of money on the transfer alone, the salary ought to be just as attractive.
I'd rather make a ton of dough and be decently competitive than make a decent salary and be very competitive.

He didn't play a league game for them before this season.

I'm not saying that makes him a bad signing for Liverpool or Kepa a good one for Chelsea (although I do think both will succeed) and they're both, from what I gather, fine keepers, but neither has played a substantial amount of league football and neither are what I'd class as hugely experienced. Acting like Alisson is a better signing because he is substantially more established than Kepa (although I take the point about Brazil) seems awfully like trying to fit the facts to the narrative – they're both keepers being signed on talent rather than their experience.

Hummels?

I can agree to an extent. Both are tall, strong in possession, who rely on adequate positioning to intercept possession, by feet and air. However, both suffer mainly against pacey attacking.

Can tell the media and opposition fans will only ever mention the £71m fee and not also mention the fact that he'll be half funded by the sale of Courtois. What Liverpool did with Alisson is crazier to me than this. They didn't sell someone to fund him.

It's not just about Boateng. We're supposedly lowballing all of our offers. Great news for the neckbeards who want to fret about net spend and 'good business', but if we don't pay the going rate that money is just going to go to the Glazers anyway.

I remember last summer everyone being happy not to pay up for Perisic. Turns out we really could have done with him, but maybe people would rather celebrate us being top of the financial league table than the Premier League table.

Don't think it's panic from Chelsea, they just have to pay the release clause or Bilbao won't sell. Makes sense if they feel he's the best replacement out there.

Chelsea are responsible spenders nowadays, they maintain a healthy level of spending relative to their revenue. They still get slaughtered in the press.

I have found that Liverpool have some protection in the media that other clubs don't get. They haven't won the league in so long that some might just feel sorry for them or they feed off the delusional optimism from the Liverpool fanbase.

Man City were destroyed in the press in Guardiola's first season, now they are worshipped. It seems that Liverpool get adulation no matter how good they are.

You selling Courtois has nothing do with anything. You're still paying £71M for a goalkeeper! Everyone was going crazy when we spent £89M on Pogba, but this is actually ridiculous now.

Of course. Chelsea aren't bothered what the media say or think and Liverpool care a great deal.

I think Liverpool are still dining out on the Coutinho fee.

Really crazy. Because Zidane didn't want him, keeper musical chairs started. I'd opine that Chelsea is pretty much shafted if they can't get an option to buy Kovacic. They would basically have lost Courtois for half the price of their incoming GK, who could've been had for 20mil in January. Ouch.

That sounds like a net spend argument to me...:p

It's strange but true. Honestly the only real negativity you'll see about Liverpool is from their own fan when they go into meltdown but they've been lovable losers so long the press just give them a pass and froth off over them. It's been like that for a while whereas we've always been painted in a bad light I think it's intensified 100x more since Fergie left and we started spending crazy money. But if we spend it's terrible and pathetic but if Liverpool do it it's beautiful.
