This club thrives on stability. We would be better off if things keep improving under mourinho, but half of our fans want to help stir the negativity pot and constantly seem on the verge of a witch hunt.
I work with a city fan and a derby county fan (random enough) butted into our conversation saying he hates United.
So many people hate United, and would be delighted to see a meltdown here and love the anti United press hype, so let's leave the shite stirring to them and get behind the team and manager to help the club.
Here's hoping we get the two needed signings and start the season well after a dodgy pre season.
Totally agree. Unfortunately where the press/media are concerned having a decent polemic is what pays the mortgage, and UTD are box-office, whether good, bad, or indifferent.

Martial had the chance to cement a place in his preferred position in Lukaku's absence, and he not only looked shocking when he did play but then goes awol.

He's clearly going to leave. He'll continue to show lashes of YouTube brilliance but I don't think he has the mentality to make it at a top club.

Wait what!?

Take paternity during the middle of the season? End of the day it’s a pre-season tour. Let him go be with his new born. It’s not like he manager see’s Him as a key player. It’s then manager who wants him out and his comments again show.
Pre season is vital, especially in a year when we have 1 attacker that's able to play.
How many excuses is Anthony going to get on here? I guess we're just lucky he didn't lose another shirt number or his entire playing career could be in doubt.

Wait what!?

He's been starting up-front in pre season and Mourinho said he would start up-front vs Leicester. A chance to show his worth and stake a claim for a place in the team.

He's repayed that by putting in no effort in the games and the disappearing. If I were Jose I'd be rightly furious with him, he just doesn't seem to want to apply himself and take the chance with both hands.

Do you actually believe he would be given the position if he did well though.

Over Lukaku?

No. Or at least not for important games, perhaps for rotation.

But force Jose to play him in a front 2. Lukaku isn't going to play every minute next season.

In what universe he had a chance to take over Lukaku spot, he could stay, scored 20 vs Liverpool and still his chances wouldnt improve a one bit.

JM and rotation like oil and water.

The point is, though, that Mourinho did miss his daughter’s graduation. Martial is within his rights to be with his child after it’s birth, but he was never going to come back because he wants out. He’s got good talent, but I severely doubt his application. Sell him for good money to a non-direct rival.

Just curious why is everyone against selling him to a direct rival? If people believe he's lazy, hasn't got the right attitude, is sulking etc, isn't it more logical for us to sell him to a direct rival so he could be doing the exact same things at the rival club and we could benefit from it?

Yeah, I realised that when I posted.

Was referring more to our strongest XI. If when everyone returns, the same failings persist, there would be more cause for concern.
Isn't concern good before a mistake rather than 10 games into the season when nothing can be done about it?

Wow so many pages, so little tweets

You said we won't have a season like last again. Surely you can't finish a bet like that after one season.

I didn't ask for a bet. I said what I thought. Then Ramshock waved the figures at me.

Well, I clicked on the transfer tweets thread but somehow I ended up in the betting thread

I would too just because he hasnt really progressed and he apparently wants to leave so why keep him.....On the other hand though, selling him all we really would have then is Rashford and Sanchez as striker options if Lukaku is unfit or going through an awful spell, which would leave us short on the left. Should sign a striker if letting him go but everything seems so late. Either we do some amazing deals at the end of this window or we havent done what we needed to do or even that close to it

I wouldn't mind signing a young hard working winger like Chiesa or Bailey to replace Martial. Would at least finally balance us out. If we are to play a 2 forward system then we surely have enough even after selling Martial. There aren't many 9s that would be content being no 2 to Lukaku in the same vein.
Mandzukic seems the obvious one but the rumours are dead and Juve look unlikely to part with him given they're selling Higuain.
There's Werner who's got 24 months left and basically said he wants a new challenge soon. Not clear what he meant and he's someone at his stage will expect to start. He'd actually make a brilliant partner for Lukaku, and would make sense if we play a 3-5-2 but then that's Sanchez's role. Unless he rotates with the two depending on the match and opportunity. Against weaker opposition United could switch to 4-3-1-2 with Werner, Sanchez and Lukaku uptop together. Werner is also capable of playing wide if the need ever arose. But still not even a hint linking him to us makes all that just a pipe dream.
One striker who would make perfect sense is Maxi Gomez, a similiar striker to Lukaku he'd be the perfect second choice. He'd be cheap enough to not really take too long to get done and would definitely accept the slightly reduced game time given the huge step up he gets in team quality and attention. Unfortunately another player with no real links to us and seems more of a target for the Sevillas and Southamptons of the world.
There's people like Kasper Dolberg and the Norwegian kid from Molde but they aren't anywhere near ready.
Maybe a cheeky bid for Dzagoev? Another great option if only we were looking.
