So much negativity surrounding our club at the moment.

Can't bode well for the new season.

But would you fly 10 hours for a meaningless game over your newborn child?
I do hope Martial to come back for preseason too. Should he? Yes, must he? No. It's unreasonable thing to ask for.

This is Mourinho who moaned about missing his daughter's graduation.
lol he is paid thousands a week, he should play all meaningless games if the club asks him to. Simple as that! The club gave him permission to see the birth of his child, after that he should fly to come back, if he did not then a fine should be given.

Signed one first team player.

Still need a LB and RW but seem to be pursuing CB, a position Jose has bought two players for but we still need another one.

Haven’t won a pre-season game including a 4-1 loss to Liverpool of all teams.

Martial wants to leave.

Board and Jose appear to be on a different page.

Keeps being suggested we have to sell to buy, when the club is in the top 3 of profitable football clubs in the world.

Can’t you see why some fans would be frustrated?

Add to that our rivals have strengthened.

Constant BS rumours about Pogba leaving, which may not be complete BS because Pogba doesn’t seem to have a good relationship with Mourinho anymore.

I’m sure theclub gave him permission for a set number of days - more than Mourinho likes. If Martial had overstayed beyond the time allowed by the club, Mourinho would have already slapped a fine and done it publicly too.

So most of the reasons are driven by paper talk and the rest because we have only spent 70m so far in the window despite that being comparable to other clubs in the league. Oh and losing pre season games with 1/3 of a squad haha

So you are happy going into the new season then?

I don’t care what other clubs are doing. We are meant to be the biggest club in World football with holes in our first 11 team, yet sit there and do nothing about it. Even with a manager telling the media he’s wanted 2 more players in for months.

And as for pre-season I don’t care about the results from those games, merely giving reasons as to why others are touchy today.

This preseason has been horrible. There has been limited time to integrate new things for the season and large portions of the squad has been absent. The same for all....yes, but Mourinho is only responsible for United.

Most of us will agree that we needed the time to involve new players and fix somethings from last season. We also needed new players. Nothing has been fixed. We head into the new season with the same issues from last year.

And rightly so, I completely understand and agree with Martial’s decision to fly back home for the birth of his child. However I also agree with Mourinho, as far as we know the child has been born and is healthy, he should have returned to pre season. It’s obvious he wants out and I don’t think Mourinho is that arsed about keeping him and probably only wants too because we're without many attacking options right now. I don’t see him moving though because I don’t see us receiving an offer large enough from any non English sides and we certainly won’t let him go unless we had a replacement secured.

Our problem is not spending, its the ratio of revenue/profit vs wages, some of our deadwood are on high wages and that needs trimming, sometimes we will have to take the hit to get rid of some players, playing hard bargain for the likes of Darmian has its benefits (we don't look easy cheap target) but the negatives are delaying our transfers.

I got absolutely battered (and rightly so) on the Perisic thing but I did say we should of bought Maguire from Hull.

Get him bought!

I'm not hysterical. There is time left in the window and I personally believe we should be negotiating and im not just paying the first quoted fee and letting our players go for 1m like some posters would like. I couldn't care less about pre season results - I have very high conviction that they mean nothing. Young Valencia and smalling are a lot lot better than our fans think so I am a bit more relaxed about that too. If mourinho wants players the background team better do everything they can to get them at prices that make sense. Based on other windows I believe that is what is happening in the background

Has anybody on here gave up their paternity leave to go back to work sooner? Martials choice at the end of the day but I'd rather he came back in time for next game as its clear the club needs a striker in for the start of the season.

We're fecked.
Our board is pathetic, either back manager or just fire him. It's no coincidence that we've been struggling since Ed Woodward got promoted to this position. He has no idea how to drive this club forward

Yeah it has nothing to do with the correlation of Fergie retiring at exactly that point too.

Yes he missed her graduation. Martial was at the birth of his child, so do we give him the rest of his kids life off? simply don't understand the first part of your post.
Finally, yes I'd fly whatever it took to play for United or any other team that'd pay me tens of thousands a week to play for them and also for the fans who've paid top dollar to see me play.
Jose may rightly be complaining as Martial hasn't stuck to agreements, or he may well be well off the mark, we'll possibly never know.

Yes, he did. He Actually missed it. That's the point.

His kid is two days old.
I'd be a good boss and give him one or two weeks off, not two days.
And what is this even about? CAF tells me preseason is meaningless, CAF also tells me players should be fully committed to preseason. Well, pick one.

This whole situation is fecked up for me and I'm far away from blaming Martial here but he could've pretty much taken this paternity leave of some sort when we've had players back in the squad, pre-season is also pretty much fundamental for how you play and how fit you are throughout the season, if he's had some kind of arrangement with Mourinho who let him go see the kid to come back, and he's not doing that, he's simply going AWOL here. He isn't helping himself anyhow and I agree with the most that he simply doesn't see himself here anymore.

Woodward did well on the Lukaku and Matic deals. Other than that, he's not achieved anything impressive.

It's all been overpayments and low hanging fruit so far. He's great at the marketing side of things, in fairness. But I think his lack connections in the football world have hindered him up to this point.

We have the lowest wages to turnover in the league - 45% .

I mean even Duncan Castles article is just absolutely hysterical. We came 2nd in the league haha.
Just been listening to TalkShite, and the level of anti-UTD hyperbole is risible. The last two clowns ( Sam Delanely being one ) have both predicted, largely on the basis of pre-season, that we're the new Liverpool and will stagger through a title-less wilderness for the next two decades!! As you say, "we came [fecking] 2nd in the league" last season.

Exactly. The issue is the lack of communication

Take paternity during the middle of the season? End of the day it’s a pre-season tour. Let him go be with his new born. It’s not like he manager see’s Him as a key player. It’s then manager who wants him out and his comments again show.

Sorry to bare bad news onto you. But we are not having a season like last year again we are going backwards. Fast!

Manager has already stated that he wanted to use him as a striker due to Lukaku's absence for the Leicester match and who knows if it won't go beyond that. If he's had a chance to be taken, it was it. Martial wants out too by the looks of it.

Why would you nail your colours to the mast so early on? At least wait to see how the opening few games pan out before drawing any kind of conclusion.

This. This was the guy who was complaining about minutes and now has the opportunity to stake his claim in the side, he can't be arsed - just wants to leave. He's clearly made up his mind.

Actually, that's a horrible advice. Last season we started by four nil-ing everyone and then it all went downhill.

Yeah, I realised that when I posted.

Was referring more to our strongest XI. If when everyone returns, the same failings persist, there would be more cause for concern.

This club thrives on stability. We would be better off if things keep improving under mourinho, but half of our fans want to help stir the negativity pot and constantly seem on the verge of a witch hunt.
I work with a city fan and a derby county fan (random enough) butted into our conversation saying he hates United.
So many people hate United, and would be delighted to see a meltdown here and love the anti United press hype, so let's leave the shite stirring to them and get behind the team and manager to help the club.
Here's hoping we get the two needed signings and start the season well after a dodgy pre season.
