BREAKING: Arsenal to appoint Unai Emery as new manager. Thorough process produced 46yo Spaniard as unanimous choice. Available after leaving #PSG (1 Lg1 title, 4 cups), previously Sevilla (3 EL wins), not fluent English. Announcement + press conference likely later this week #AFC

Oh wow. Good news for arsenal fans.

I'd love to see Ornstein's reactions to the meme replies for his tweets.

Arteta must feel bad with all the hype about him being next manager. Emery isn't the best appointment but might help them in the Europa League and probably the most attainable quality manager they can get.

I don't mind buying players of age (Willian and Toby)
What I worry is Jose is so short sighted, for him it's all about here and now. He's the sort of manager that would want to sign no matter what they end up costing, yet will throw away players like Martial, Shaw etc without really giving them a decent chance.

I worry this coming season is the season it all implodes for Mourinho and we end up with a bunch of ageing players that the next manager may not even want
This is a make or break season for him. He will invest in youth once he gets past this.

Emery is that modern attacking kind of manager who is craved by everyone here including me. Arsenal will be injected with fresh ideas and more importantly he is a cup manager.

PSG didn't get injected with nothing. He even managed to lose the French league itself, which is kind of an achievement.

He was asked on an Arsenal podcast.

“Is it going to sound really boring to say that I’m completely impervious to it?

“You sort of look, and this is going to be a boring answer – I’m incredibly busy, and I don’t just report on Arsenal, I’ve got a lot of different things going on as a correspondent at the BBC.

“And so you look towards the notifications to see if anyone’s pointing out things or mistakes that you’ve made, or useful comments, and as soon as you see the number of memes, you have a chuckle and then get on with it.

“With a very young family with two tearaway boys I don’t have time to go scrolling down and sit there admiring or despairing at what I’m seeing.

“My wife and kids are annoyed enough at the amount of time I spend on my phone and laptop and working around the country and the world, so sadly I don’t have time to indulge in it.

“A certainly think that when you start to indulge in that kind of stuff, you probably ruin the appeal and it’s probably best that I toe the BBC party line, stick professional and get on with your job.

“Let everyone have the fun they want, it’s just sport at the end of the day and it’s fun, sometimes we just take all this a bit too seriously, it’s fun and we’ll just let it roll.”

Would absolutely fit in with our transfer policy.

To be fair, I can't see that type of signing under Jose.

It'd be worth signing Bale, Vidal, Willian, and Alderweireld just to see the outrage from those who are obsessed with only buying players under 21

Should be a car salesman this fella. Makes a 31 year old who's recovering from his 2nd knee operation a bargain at 50m, no wait 35m
With one year left on his contract you can’t aford to miss this opportunity!

This is my concern as well. We aren't thinking about long term at all making these signings and getting rid of our younger talents. Another manager might want to work with these players so it doesn't make sense to sacrifice that for short term players and a short term manager. I always said that if Mourinho was a chef he'd never actually cook anything himself, he'd rather buy a ready made meal instead. It's concerning that we will have Willian and Sanchez both players entering 30's, both heavily rely on their physical attributes and pace more than the technical ability whilst City are building with a front 3 all under 24 and could be there for the next 8/9 years.

I see people keep mentioning Bale but when was the last time he played on the RW? Im sure the last few times I saw him play it was as a SS of some sort.

Tottenham and Everton are interested in Lille midfielder Yves Bissouma, according to Sky Sources. Schalke 04 and Monaco are also monitoring the 21-year-old Mali international.

He's played there a few times this season. Not watched the game against Celta (just over a week ago) but looking at this goal it looks like he's on the right.

What do you mean we're not that bad? We bought Schweinsteiger from them when he was ready for the scrap heap.

That was under Van Gaal and he cost £6.5m which is practically peanuts for us and thus worth a punt. We spent that on Bebe.

I'd take Vidal for £6.5m.
