Why do United seemingly place so much focus on these superstar players without considering the team. I was hoping with the new scouts in place we might actually get smarter and sign potentially world class players in the early to mid 20s but yet again we're stuck buying injury prone superstars who won't help us win the champions league or even the premier league. I still have hope we're after quality players - but it does seem like we're behind Liverpool in the market at the moment, which is pretty shocking for a club of United's size and wealth.
For all we know maybe there's nothing in Bale story and last time we bought a superstar was, what, Pogba?

I don't understand what's taking so long for us to address our weaknesses. We still need a RW, CB and LB at minimum.

I cant see us signing a CB unless some are shipped out first, same with LB.

Jose rates Young, and while we have Shaw (no credible links for him leaving despite the hate), Dalot (RB who CAN play LB), Rojo (CB who CAN play LB) then there isn't scope for us to sign a LB. And more importantly, despite every man and his dog stating Sandro is the answer and miracle cure, I've not seen from the club to suggest we are actively looking for a LB.

CB - We have Smalling/Jones/Rojo/Lindelof/Bailly and TFM & Tuanzebe back from loan. Now I'm not saying an elite level addition isn't welcome (a Varane/Gimenez for example) BUT when we have this many currently at the club, and a good defensive record is CB really that pressing? Not for me, not unless we let 2 go on permanent deals and at least one of TFM/Tuanzebe on loan once again.

We need some work on the squad, for me outgoings are just as important as incomings in some respect. Would I like to see Smalling/Jones/Rojo move on? Yes. Will we really sell all 3 alongside Darmian/Blind in one window? No

A RW is like a pipe dream, we've needed one for years. Will we get one? I hope so.

So I don't think we NEED a CB/LB, that's just the popular WANT for lots of our fans. We may just sign a RW and that's our business done. Fellaini is the 2nd midfielder Jose wanted, and unless lots of players leave, then we are done in the window unless there is a major surprise lined up

We do but we won’t, we seem content on sitting back watching others do smart business whilst we continue to have the same deadwood in our squad from 5 years ago.
They have a board that wants to take lfc back to the top, premier league titles and champions league winners, we have an executive, and a board with no ambition to win anything. The only ambition our board has is to just keep the money rolling, lfc have spent 410 million on transfers since klopp came in, we have spent 250 since jose came. I must say, all mufc fans deserve better.

Since Mourinho came in:
Money spent: €432.1M
Money received: €82M
Net spend: €350.1M

Klopp's transfers since Mourinho came in:
Money spent: €367.63M
Money received: €259.4M
Net spend: €108.23M

I hate the talk of net spend but a year ago, Liverpool fans would have been livid with the amount they spent as they were getting more money in than they were spending. They've had a strong window so far (especially if they bring in Alisson) but prior to this summer we had brought in pretty much every player that Mourinho asked for - and the one player we didn't get, we got Sanchez in instead who isn't even counted in the money spent as it was a part exchange deal even though he's more valuable than Mkhitaryan.

Anyway, there are plenty of other threads to moan about transfers.

Transfer is only part of the financial status of a club. What a club can generate as a whole is the matter. The scope to look at matters too. L'pool has players from previous regime Klopp ended up selling for good fee. Who was our Coutinho we can sell to fund our Pogba purchase? Take that Coutinho sale out and L'pool sale earning is only few dross player sale apart. (Hopefully Juve would fork out the money for Damien). If one being honest and look at our sale since Mourinho take over, we're doing much better in selling our dross even at loss, than even under SAF.

Does that include money spent in this window?

BREAKING NEWS - Oxlade Chamberlain is out for the season as he recovers from multiple ligament damage

Looks like Liverpool will sign Fekir .....

If we also sign Fekir that would probably take our gross spend over yours.

Which to me is a sign of how gross spend only tells about a third of the story. Everyone knows you have more money than us, we'd never have been doing so without sales like Coutinho and Sanchez besides being a swap deal was just out of our price range on the terms that gross spend says nothing about.

Still delighted that we are finally spending at a competitive level.

So with our the spending at competitive level, how the expectation change? Would you guys take a trophyless season with some positive like last season?

Depends on how it goes. If we get 90 points and still don't win the title then fair fecks, we've given our best.

It might also be that we do a bit below expectations but still within the boundaries of acceptable. Klopp has that leeway.

I wonder how Liverpool will cope with the pressure, they can't play plucky underdogs or surprise team role in the league anymore. With that team, that spending, they need to be right up City's arse.

I'm not seeing it...

What's a picture of Harry Potter's dad got to do with anything.

Jim White trying to push some bets on Alisson to Chelsea. :nono:

He's deleted the tweet now but five minutes ago he said that the fee wasn't agreed between Roma and Liverpool, despite the player being given permission to go and have a medical.

No it was a bit different. We agreed a fee for Fekir, then he had the medical and we weren't entirely happy with the results. We went back to Lyon to renegotiate the price and then it fell through.

Jeez. I came to read some transfer tweets and all anyone is talking about is how great the dippers are going to be...

I'll say one thing, with our terrible team, dinosaur football and pointless transfer strategy with only one player signed for the first team, IF we do win the league and there are bonuses to be handed out, we're gonna have to Grant Fred Dalot...

If he won't get minutes here then selling him with a reduced fee buyback clause is the solution.

I strongly disagree with that. He's got great potential to succeed here, although his best position is yet to be determined because though he ain't a ball carrier needed for a full back role under Mourinho, I think he can be great at centre back or a Rcb role in back 3 as the energy and acceleration he's got can be lethal in terms of stopping any attacking player when that job is to be done. Also if he improves his passing he could be a explosive Def mid in my opinion. When Mourinho took over I thought he would impress Mourinho very much and he'd be one of his favourites to keep. Selling such a talented Youngster will be a Mistake. He needs to play , I agree on that front but he can play if we are willing to give him game time in cup competitions and also In few PL games or even try him out in other positions.

The fact that he doesn't have a position aside, if he doesn't get any minutes (highly likely) then he won't really improve and won't be of any benefit to us. Let him go like Januzaj and Memphis did and if he improves he can always come back for a reduced fee.

Why do Barcelona want Willian so badly?

He's not a bad player by any means but would he really fit in with their style of play?
What do you think their style of play is? They played 4-4-2 a lot last season and they've few players who can play on the right and left of midfield.
