Why is everyone so obsessed with the fact Bale turned us down years ago and may, or may not, have turned us down again since?
Like all footballers, Bale has to make the decision of what is best for his career, when he went to Tottenham he probably thought he'd get more game time there, when he left Tottenham, his choices were us or Real Madrid. He chose Real Madrid, and has won a hat full of trophies since, it can't really be considered that he made the wrong choice.
Now he is again thinking that he wants to be a more integral part of a team, whether that be at Real Madrid or somewhere else.
With regards to United's part in all this, we have zero idea on how many times we've actually bid for him or even shown an interest. Just because a couple of crappy newspapers say we have doesn't make it so.
The bit about Fergie isn't true either, he knew the players he wanted, to make his team work, he wouldn't have let the petty fact that a player turned us down once stop him from going after said player, if it's what completed his team.
Apart from all that, United have a huge team working on multiple deals and plans. They haven't just sat all summer waiting for a call from Bale before they look into some other ideas.
