The Bale situation is pathetic - we're basically like the friendzoned virgin who has driven his childhood crush to her ex-boyfriend's house because she is having one final heart to heart to see if he wants her back. We'll still be sat outside crying and watching their silhouettes in the bedroom window in an hour....
Holy shit you made me remember some really bad 'times'

Good luck finding someone ‘much more talented on the ball than the Manchester United player’.

He falls for it every summer. They just wait until he pulls a muscle, play Isco then (rightfully) tell him that he can't get in because they won't change a winning side, its only fair.
Martial isn't even this gullible

Indeed. Whatever Pogba's issues with application, I don't think I could name a current central midfielder who is 'much more talented on the ball' than him.

I'm fed up of this ponytailed prick spending half the summer deciding he doesn't want to play for us.

This is like the 6th time he's supposedly turned us down. The club need to fecking move on.

When did we become such a desperate club? Fergie set in stone how to handle these things and bring success, he would never have waited around for Bale once he'd turned us down.

It's hardly his fault. He's snubbed us before. Why are the club wasting time on someone like this? It's like summer 2013 all over again. We spend the whole summer chasing unattainable targets and then end up panic buying at the end. This time I guess it'll be Willian. Why not invest in a young RW like Lozano, Pulisic, Leon Bailey etc?

The reason I guess we’re probably not going for a young RW is the thought we’ve got good talent coming through and we don’t want to hinder their development? That’s my logic anyway.

We're waiting until Bale decides what to do with his life.

Urgh Mbappe is that good isn't he... What scenario allows us to have both? Besides being a French national

He is the real deal. We will find it hard to get Mbappe at this point. We could have a chance if we had used Pogba in the deal. Not going to happen, but if we were in that position, I would take it.

Why is everyone so obsessed with the fact Bale turned us down years ago and may, or may not, have turned us down again since?

Like all footballers, Bale has to make the decision of what is best for his career, when he went to Tottenham he probably thought he'd get more game time there, when he left Tottenham, his choices were us or Real Madrid. He chose Real Madrid, and has won a hat full of trophies since, it can't really be considered that he made the wrong choice.

Now he is again thinking that he wants to be a more integral part of a team, whether that be at Real Madrid or somewhere else.

With regards to United's part in all this, we have zero idea on how many times we've actually bid for him or even shown an interest. Just because a couple of crappy newspapers say we have doesn't make it so.

The bit about Fergie isn't true either, he knew the players he wanted, to make his team work, he wouldn't have let the petty fact that a player turned us down once stop him from going after said player, if it's what completed his team.

Apart from all that, United have a huge team working on multiple deals and plans. They haven't just sat all summer waiting for a call from Bale before they look into some other ideas.

Yeah I don’t give a feck if Bale may have turned us down before, I don’t really get why so many people get hung up on that sort of thing. Need to get a bit better at handling rejection.

If I get chance later I'll dig out the quote from Fergie himself to the contrary. He once said something about only giving players one opportunity to come here because he only wanted players desperate to play for us, and that there were a lot of players every year knocking down his door to sign for us.

I know he liked Bale, but I don't think he'd still be chasing him in 2018 if he were still here.

I wouldn’t. The thing about the Ronaldo’s, Mbappe’s, and Neymar’s is they never stay put. If we signed Mbappe, we’d be lucky to have him for 3 seasons.

Fair enough if he said that, but didn't he re-sign players that had left United previously, which is arguably worse?

You don't need to look for the quote though, I trust he said it, not so sure he'd have stood by it if the right player became available though. Ultimately the past is irrelevant, all that matters is what is right for the club now (and right for the player now, from their perspective).

 Great analogy. Called it from the start. We were never going to get Bale and I feel like we have been chasing him this summer. Should have gone for Mahrez, would have sorted out RW and has done well in the league. Just can’t see any other options on the market.

The valuations of some players is becoming an issue. No one is willing to pay the ridiculous amounts be quoted by foreign clubs. There is going to be massive panick buying in 3 weeks time at this rate.
Mourinho was right when he said pogba will look cheap soon.
