They were linked to Sidibe, Lemar and Fabinho, so not a big surprise I guess
Liverpool's interest seems past and he never really wanted Arsenal

Lemar is a damn good signing. If they can keep Griezmann and add Sidibe then they are just as good as anyone IMO.
He is a good player, really aggressive and good on the ball, even if he is quite small. Reminds me a bit of Verratti.
Lemar, Vitolo, Correa, Saul, Koke..Atletico have some good options and depth for their wide positions.
Quite cheap IMO, quite a few clubs missed a trick here. He is actually a good midfielder. 2 seasons in a row now where he played well consistently and seems like a bit of a hidden gem.

They have been after him since 2016 and it was reported that he actually agreed on a contract with them at the time but Monaco and Atletico couldn't agree on a fee.
My gut feeling is that they haven't missed out on that much. There is no way Arsenal offered 95M straight up. It was probably a base of around 60, and then all sorts of clauses to make up the rest. If the Atletico deal is about 55M up front and another 10 in bonuses, then in real, immediate terms the difference is minimal. It's if the player is a big success and you miss out on all the potential bonuses that it becomes an issue. But I guess that's why they included a resale clause.
I'd be genuinely disappointed if United signed Ronaldo, would much prefer Bale.
They have a large percentage of any sell on fee though so it could work out good for them in the long term.

This could definitely be one of the signings that goes under the radar but turns out to be one the better deals this summer.
