Boateng could be a risk worth taking. At his best he's top tier along with being a leader and confident on the ball, could have a rippling effect on the rest of the back four who have a habit of losing confidence easily.

I honestly believe Smalling is under rated. He’s not a Vidic or Ferdinand. There are CB that need a leader next to them to guide them and organize them and he is one of those. Basically he is the kind that looks as good as the guy who plays next to him.
I get it, he has his strengths but his distribution won't improve just because he has a leader next to him. It is a skill he does not possess and will not improve to get to the required level we need to progress. But I don't like the thought of babysitting players, especially in the CD position. I would prefer they led themselves. We don't have the Luxury of just having one leader on the pitch. Like SAF says "You need leaders all over the park". That is the mentality we need to go for.
