I reckon most on here would have taken Pep over Jose last summer. I can't imagine many willing to swap now though
Don't know about that. I was never too keen on these extreme possession tactics, but after LvG I'd rather have taken a break from football than watched anymore of the same.

I don't disagree, you just said "why the heck" concerning Madrid not going for him, that may be a reason.
Yeah i wasn't thinking about the Ex-Atleti part, but i really don't think this wouldn't be an issue. Anyway, there are more then enough top clubs that would take him gladly..Would be the nail in the coffin for City. There is noone in the market who could replace him even close

Pre LVG you probably had a point, I'd say after him the majority had swung away from such painstaking possession football.

This is from a year ago, deep within LVG gloom:

Hope Pep wastes the whole summer chasing Messi, only to end up with Daniel Sturridge on the last day

Yeah if you read the following debate based on my post you would see that I didn't mean China, and even taking into account what you said, it doesn't change the fact that it's refreshing to see someone retire at the top.

Weird. Most of my post was in response to the "rotting in the lower leagues" comment.

Its nice to see a player retire at the top, like Giggs, Scholes and Neville, but there is nothing wrong with a player who loves the game prolonging their career by droppig down the leagues and "rotting" as you put it.

Added the China bit as an after thought tbh.

It's crazy if that's true about them willing to let Aguero go. He's got to be close to their greatest ever player and at 28 years old, should be in his prime. Unless he thinks he can sign Messi, who is going to improve them by letting Aguero leave?

City are where they are, because a slightly above mediocre squad is boosted by excellent forwards. You lose Aguero or De Bruyne and that squad is now very, very average indeed.

Madrid no?? Why the heck? He is a lot better then Benze, would be immediately their star striker. He would get into the first 11 from pretty much any club in the world, apart from Barca who have Suarez..but after him Agüero is pretty much number 2 in the world (alongside Ibra who isn't getting younger)

I remember reading that both Madrid clubs have an gentlemens agreement with each other to not buy each others players even after leaving the club. Aguero himself may not want to go either depending how loyal he is.

Madrid wanted to buy De Gea. They also showed interest in Agüero more then once the past years. I think they don't care about this agreement, if there is really one. I'd say Agüero doesn't want to go anywhere, he strikes me as one of the few, if not the only world class player that genuinely likes it to play for City, at least until the current season. Would it make even sweater if Pep freezes him out.

Thankfully not a City fan but is there anyone else that could be a contender for their greatest ever player? Legit question.

You're right. I remember some posters seemed to have a nervous breakdown when he announced he was going to City. Never realized so.many wanted him though.

I think part of that was due to City announcing him when there was rumours we were after him and we were playing the go nowhere football under LvG we had to suffer through at the time.

Was thinking about it before I posted that earlier. Colin Bell I imagine is the only other contender?

Weird, what's the point in pushing for a move if you're going to end up at a shitty club? I could understand it if he was wanted by one of the big clubs, but now.. Doesn't make sense as it'll probably be his last club at a decent level given he's already 33.

£££

Payet situation is a mess. Wouldn't surprise me if he ends up in China.

Now what? If you're going to refuse to play for your club, at least make sure you're certain the interested club is prepared to meet the asking price.

Seems like a lose-lose scenario. Maybe he'll have to move to another club after all, can't see the West Ham fans forgiving him.

Maybe he just likes to live i Manchester. Bolton and Oldham probably couldn't afford him. Are there any other clubs in the area...?

Birmingham spending some money this window. I just wonder why they didn't give the funds to Rowett instead. It's not like he's a lesser manager than Zola. In fact, it's the opposite.

Rumours of Aguero leaving aren't from a very reliable source are they? Castles' word is hardly gospel, and I'm surprised to see so many people are readily believing it. Don't think he'll leave any time soon, but would live to be proven wrong.
