Every year Real try to offload their expensive rejects on to us as there are few alternatives and they need to make room for new shiny toys. This year its James and Bale. Means nothing at all.

You do realize there's less than two years between them? Right now Griezmann is 26, and Bale is 27 (turning 28 in July).

The fact that he's made of glass and rarely plays more than 50% of RMs games in a season makes it a scary transfer, though.
I think you also have to factor in a players skill set when factoring in age and performance. Bale is hugely reliant on his pace and general athleticism, which are attributes that tend to decline shortly after reaching 30 (for most players). Griezmann is technically far superior and is less reliant on his physical attributes and more on movement off the ball, so he should, on paper, be able to play at a decent level well into his 30's. So I'd say we can get a good 5/6 years out of Griezmann without seeing much of a decline, while maybe 2/3 years for Bale.

I agree with this, ofc. It's just me being heartbroken about losing out a few years ago.

44, 48, 31 apps for Real in the past three full seasons, 26 games so far this season. The story goes that they rush him back ASAP every time as he's Perez' pet which obviously causes him to get re-injured. I'm not too excited about this due to the injury history, age and price, but a fit and in form Bale would still be fantastic to have.

If he cannot stay fit in la Liga, how on earth is he supposed to stay fit in the EPL?

Please post the tweet or the source. Without that, the purpose of this thread is defeated.

My bad, it was some news in our domestic sports news in my language...only later have I realized they were quoting "The Sun".

No way should we sign bale. Madrid would want what they paid for him plus he's injury prone. We should get, griezmann, Bernardo silva, Pepe and Fabinho if we sign these 4 guys we will
Be challenging for the title next year

I know this goes against popular opinion but I'm not a fan and hope we stay away.

So.. You're discussing Bale because of serbian news, no tweet, no source, and now the source turns out to be The Sun? Muppets

I just want muppet season to start. Seems to be much better than the actual season. Last time was so good, little did we know we would not even finish top 4.

Kind of agree

Highlight of the year as a United fan under Fergie was when the season was ongoing and we were winning stuff

Highlight of the year as a United fan at the moment is in the summer, muppetering over what we need and want to actually start winning stuff again

Don Balon are about as reliable as the Metro.

Don Balon is a news organisation rather than a single person?

That's a shame. I had an image of a big fat, gold-chain-wearing, cigar-smoking, mafioso-style transfer guru in a white suit, stroking a cat. Don Balon.

Yes..... Yes I do.

Hence AG will be 28 in 2-3 years time (and still shd have resale value) whereas GB (at 30), less so? We'd be taking the financial hit off Real.....

Unless Bale is £40m-£50m (dearish but in current market and given merchandise, acceptable), it's a no.

We'd be absolute mugs to take Bale for 100m with his injury record. Jose is too savvy for that.

I don't think we (United) need to worry about 'financial hit' or 'resale value' and I definitely don't think we (United fans) need concern ourselves with it.

We will write an article you can't refuse to click on.

hes hardly a fan of youth though is he?

The rights and wrongs of Mourinho's policy towards academy players is open for discussion but it's scarcely relevant here. The story is plainly nonsense. Mbappe would not be affected by Mourinho's youth policy; if he moved to United he would not be considered a 'youth' player.

Traditionally, probably not, but tbf he does seem more focussed on bringing through younger players since he's joined us. Whether he makes a success of developing those young players remains to be seen, I guess. Given that he has the likes of Martial, Rashford, TFM and Shaw to name a few, there are plenty of raw materials to work with. It'll be interersting to see whether he can really bring their games along, even aside from the number of games they get.

Thanks.

I don't think it would be a good idea if we (United) come across as a club where 'value' is irrelevant.... it could/would impact on most major deals going forward, just because we (United) are flush with cash doesn't mean we (United) have to give it away?

Agree that we (United fans) don't need to concern themselves.... I'm not concerned, just commenting.

People underestimate the brand certain footballers brings with them, probably the reason Rooney lasted so long here as he was out only real flagship player after Ronaldo, now we have Pogba, adding Bale would bring in more sponsors.

Either way I probably wouldn't want him here, he'd frustrate us all by bro on the sidelines, it's a shame though because his pace would be invaluable to us.

Thanks.

Fair enough. Although I think that ship may have already sailed; if the past few years have taught us (and the rest of the football world) anything, it's that United is absolutely willing to splash obscene amounts of cash when asked to do so.
