Even though i don’t rate him that highly, I’ll be gutted to see him do well for another side vying for the Top 4 spot.

He may end up like an Eduardo, who i did not rate that highly as well and thought was settling in surprisingly well and would’ve gone on to become a decent striker for Arsenal had it not been for his injury.

The Chinese FA have recently introduced a new rule where all Chinese clubs who buy foreign players have to pay the FA the transfer fee again in tax. The money then goes into grassroots football.

If that is true, then it’s a pretty smart move from the Chinese FA to be honest.

Exclusive, something we made up isn't happening.

Aren't they clever?

I find this so tiresome. Sports reporters for major newspapers are inundated this time of year with tip-offs from agents, players, club officials and the rest of it. Sometimes it's people spinning a false story to their advantage (contract talks, negotiations etc) and other times it's crappy sources. This it's all one big conspiracy and they go into the office and say "Hey gang, what story can we make up today?" might happen at Goal.com, or a 'ITK' on Twitter, but it doesn't happen amongst the sports journalists of the Telegraph.

It's almost Trump like this obsession that everything is fake and made up.

Because with transfers most of it is.

"Palmeiras confirm to Cadena ser that Yerry Mina is new Barcelona player and has permission to travel to Barcelona"

So be clear an additional £13m on top of the £50m already agreed. Not altogether surprising that RBL would consider that.

I mean, I get why they're doing it, but it can't be denied there's something funny about paying more than the agreed price for a player that you're already getting.

13m is a lot for half a season. I guess it could be worth it if they think it is the difference between CL and not though, which maybe it could be. I would take it if running RBL that is for sure. Mind you they should have held out in the summer. Surely they would have been able to get more if selling now.

I guess we're struggling to get other deals over the line.
Still we're in desperate need of another body and what an incredible player to add even if it only helps with depth around the CL games and rotation.

Southampton holding out in the summer has created a curious domino effect this window. I can't remember this many big deals being done before. Provided this goes through of course.

Only makes the deal done for Naby look smarter to be fair. You got him before the huge inflation point.

For yourselves yes, not many other clubs making waves though.

Eh? They paid more than his release clause, and are now paying more to bring him in earlier. Perhaps needed, but nothing about the deal is shrewd so how can it be smart? If anything it's stupid.

In fact it's definitely stupid because they should have sold coutinho last summer and brought him in last summer. They shot themselves in the foot and are paying more for a player that's already theirs. It's awful from them.

I regularly watch French Football and i can assure that Malcom will be something special in the upcoming years, very gutted we are opting for Lucas Moura instead.

They got their man for a price that is looking decent in the light of the Coutinho deal. I would have thought they would be rinsed for more if it happened now.

Also Coutinho has played really well for them so far this season. They might not even be in the top 4 if they had sold him in the summer. I am not sure you can call it stupid yet. Time will tell. But 50m for Naby Keita looks like a decent deal to me.

Keita had a release clause of £48M for next summer. They paid £57M for him last summer (without actually getting the player for that season) and now if they want him for the rest of the season that'll go up to around £70M for a player that in 6 months could have been bought for £22M less.

He had a 48M release clause for the coming summer. Liverpool wouldn't have been able to be rinsed for more if they waited for then and the player chose them. Only thing smart about the deal was getting it done before the likes of Bayern might have been interested but they signed Tolisso and are looking to sign Goretzka on a free.

The fact that they paid a penny more than the release clause is why it's a stupid deal on their part. Sure it might be cheaper than alternatives but theyve still paid more than they should have, and are paying more to get him in earlier. Think Barca bid what, an extra 20mil this Jan? Apparently they're bringing in keita early for 13mil? For the sake of 7mil you'd get this all done in the summer in my opinion.

Hm I don't see it that way. Release clauses are double-edged. If the player keeps his form going loads of clubs would pay it and he is really quite likely not to pick Liverpool. Especially if not in the CL which has to be seen as a possibility. In the end all that really matters is getting your man for a decent price and they did that.

Well what it does is give Liverpool a fallback option and makes them less vulnerable in negotiations. They know it´s there. I´m sure they are still working some angles to get other players in. If I had to guess I´d say they are looking at players with release clauses/expiring deals in the summer like Brandt, Meyer or Bernard. I also think they have set €50M aside for Alisson in the summer.

We don't know they are going to pay the premium to get him earlier or not but that is not what I was talking about.

I mean the bit that I think was a good deal was the initial deal done in the summer. Before the Neymar and Coutinho deals. Otherwise there was a significant risk of losing out on the player, or him signing a new contract and having to pay loads more to get him. It doesn't seem to make sense to pay a huge amount just to get him half a season earlier but that is speculation atm.

Juventus could consider making an offer for Sampdoria midfielder Lucas Torreira in the summer, according to @DiMarzio.

The fee Liverpool agreed, I believe, was £57m rising to £66m (depending on if Leipzig made champions league next season). So an additional £13m could perhaps take the transfer fee to £77m (if the add ons are met and are included).
Here's a link about the initial transfer from the Sun that quotes Sport Bild: https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/foot...a-liverpool-66m-german-side-champions-league/

I really rate Torreira. Hard working, grafting midfielder who's also very decent on the ball. Natural for Juventus to pick him up, especially if he has a relatively low release clause.

They paid more than his release clause? How did that work? I do remember it being quite a complicated transfer when the story broke.

Paid his release clause and a premium above his release clause. And now look like paying even more to bring him in earlier. This is somehow a good deal apparently.

His release clause only started becoming active from next summer, so Liverpool paid a premium to secure the transfer a year early but still go through in 2018.

70 million for Naby Keita...

Ridiculous as it sounds £70m is now the new £30m it seems. Liverpool have done well as they got their man they wanted and Klopp will be delighted with VVD and Keita and now a large war chest for future signings since Coutinho moved. Yes they could have gone in cheaper if they waited but he most likely would have signed for someone else. Good deal all round now I hope he fails but think he will thrive.
