Why would they need him? Even if we assume that Dzeko is a goner this summer, they already have Aguero and Bony and they play with one up front. If he goes there, he'll follow the path of Scott Sinclair.
If they play two up then he'd be a reasonable alternative to Aguero when his hamstring inevitably explodes. I imagine the real reason, though, if how worried they are by the homegrown rules.

Van Gaal converted Schweinsteiger from winger to midfield at Bayern. Now he wants Schweini at #MUFC, says Kicker

Signing Bale, Otamendi, Schweinsteiger and Depay in the same summer would be amazing.

Schweinsteiger for #MUFC makes sense. Was high on LVG list last yr. FCBayern said no then but now more receptive

Just to clear up that Fjortoft tweet:
Seemed like he hadn't really read the article at first (tweeted that the quotes were from 2013), to that tweet, to this one:

He completely misunderstood the article at first, even seemed like he hadn't read it at all.

Thing is I'm yet to see a quote that shows Zorc said Hummels is not leaving. The only quote we've seen is this one: " It's legitimate that Mats (Hummels) is thinking of his future, but I've told him we're planning with him"

Does anyone have this article or have the actual quote where Zorc says he's not leaving?

Would take Schweini. Reasonable fee too you'd imagine.

Didn't realise he was only 30, he only has a year left on his contract, would be a good addition I reckon, only concern is his recent injury record, but for a relatively low fee, would be a no brainer if available. Wouldn't stop us getting another CM too since hes low cost

Should we believe this stuff about Otamendi then?

Well, from what I understand our scouts don't give up when they like a player, so if we actually made a bid this winter, he is probably our n°1 target from the beginning.

Regarding Super Deporte and Otamendi, they adore the guy and say every week he wants to stay, usually with a caveat that he could go. The latest article doing the rounds was published early yesterday (time-date later because has been updated) and before Ole's claims. It still said if Valencia accepted a buyout clause sale of €50m then Otamendi would accept to go. Question is if Man United will pay it.

Wouldn't make sense for Liverpool to leak it though? They want to keep him, he wants to leave. Probably not best plan to give tell the world other clubs are coming in for him.

Makes perfect sense - saying to their fans they were forced to sell him elsewhere to avoid him going to Utd. Also make sense from the agent, he's trying to force the issue.

And all the Hummels stuff was bullshit?

Like Redsky said Hummels is/was probably our fallback option, United are not the type of organization who try to sign a player in a window and just abandon the idea the next window.

Good replacement for Carrick for a few years, would let us see how our youth develop in the mean time. That's if he can stay fit.

Sterling's agent has literally just been on Talk Sport saying all this stuff is a load of bollox and Raheem is considering his new contract offer.

If indeed a reasonable fee and he wants to join us of course though I wouldn't want to spend weeks haggling for the likes of him unless he was one of two centre mids being bought. Still a good player but would not fix our problems.

I'd love to see Schweinsteiger in a United shit. Should be a brilliant option to have for a few years if he stays fit, which sadly is a big if.
