On Pereira and Januzaj:
"As mentioned in this column six weeks ago, the 19-year-old, who was born in Brazil but recently played at U20 level for Brazil, always wanted to stay but a key issue concerned where he will play on loan next season.
Whereas Van Gaal wanted him to stay in England, Pereira wanted a European club -- ideally his former side PSV Eindhoven. The player and his father, who is a former professional footballer himself, not unwisely felt that the slender developing talent could be kicked about in the English championship.
United played the situation well to avoid a repeat of him leaving for Italy -- like Paul Pogba in 2012 -- or France, where Paris Saint-Germain made an offer and awarded him a Premier League debut against Tottenham that blew his mind.
Pereira will almost certainly go on loan next season to get the regular first-team football he won't get at Old Trafford. United will also allow Adnan Januzaj, whose career has stalled this season, the same loan option, but there's much negotiating to be done by executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward. He has to do what's right for the club and the player and, ideally, keep influential agents like Jorge Mendes onside too."
On DDG:
"Mendes also represents United's David De Gea and Nani, who is currently on loan at Sporting, and will do what is best for him, his players and the club. He doesn't want to annoy United by letting De Gea's contract run down so he can move to Real Madrid for a small fee, so United are pushing for the goalkeeper to sign a new deal knowing that, if he leaves, the Bernabeu club will pay a fair fee. The player would also get a huge pay rise.
Van Gaal has to sanction everything but he's well versed in the increasingly complex mechanics of football transfers, where goodwill can be extended to other players aligned with an agent."
