Selling Di Maria would be a terrible idea after only 1 season in England. Especially when there has been flashes of quality.

This Gerson lad plays so similarly to Pogba a few years ago it's frightening. Not a bad feat to captain the Brazil U20 side at 17 too. But we've seen in the past it can mean very little. Doubt we'll sign him though.

I remember Juve and Barca being linked to him earlier this season. He looks quite impressive, but we need proven players, not upcoming teenagers.

Perhaps @fontaine might be able to provide us with more backround info regarding Gerson. 30m is surely nonsense though.

I love Gerson, and I am extremely skeptical on "wonderkids". This guy earns the tag though. 30m.. well, any half decent player is costing that nowadays.

The best way I could describe him is he is a bit like Alaba when he plays for Austria.

He comes from the same youth academy as Fabio and Rafael. Maybe there is some relation with United that could help? (The same academy that produced Thiago Silva and Marcelo also)

Isn't there a law that allows players with exceptional talent getting a visa without having the criteria usually needed?
Yes, but as I recall, even in that case he'd need to have a few games for the national team.

To be honest I think Depay himself is waiting for an offer from us, it just hasn't come. I hope we do eventually make an offer! Losing Memphis wouldn't be a wise choice.

This is the suspect apparently (Gerson).

That clip rivals Bebe's youtube efforts for w@nkness. Bare in mind I got bored after about 90 seconds of it.

I may watch further as I noticed a few positive comments since. Still it seems a lot of money for a raw 17 year old.

Doesn't get any better. I kept watching as I was expecting him to show a bit more (for the fee reported) but he's underwhelming throughout. No way are we gonna sign this guy for that much.

What? Bebe's first Youtube video was him running the entire length of the pitch and scoring, he did it more than once IIRC.

Bebe should be lining up against Barca this weekend BTW. Granted his team are rooting to the bottom of La Liga but he hasn't done too badly, getting a lot of minutes for them.

The Bebe clip I watched I don't think he scored once, it was very ropey. But good on him though getting games these days as for this Gerson he may turn out to be very good but seriously 30m euros, no way.
Usually the Spanish giants get a sniff of these South Americans when they are very young..wonder if the likes of Real or Barca are or have been interested.

How exactly would Gerson qualify to play in england?

"Special talent" I guess. If I recall correctly then Anderson was first denied a work permit, but United appealed on the grounds of him being a special talent.

Gerson is not included in the Brazil under 20 squad due to transfer negotiations, most likely with Manchester United. Price: 30m euro

Not a tweet as such and not sure if this is related but the coach explains the absence on an article from the Fifa site:
http://www.fifa.com/u20worldcup/new...ts-make-provisional-brazil-squad-2595414.html

Manchester United playmaker Andreas Pereira and Real Madrid forward Jean Carlos have made Brazil’s 26-player provisional squad for the FIFA U-20 World Cup.

However, there was no space for 17-year-old Fluminense midfielder Gerson, Corinthians boy wonder Malcom and Santos striker Gabriel, 18, as coach Alexandre Gallo opted for more experience following a forgettable campaign in the South American qualifiers. The 47-year-old will trim his party to 21 before heading out to Australia, where they will undergo their training camp, on 16 May.

Other interesting names in the squad are Marseille prospect Alef, Atletico Paranaense’s prolific attacking midfielder Marcos Guilherme and Fluminense trick machine Kenedy.

“We called up committed players who have experience representing their country and have their [careers] shaped,” explained Gallo. “We need players who are fully focused on our targets.”

Also perhaps we should be showing more determination to keep the Brazilian that we already have who has made the squad.

edit: reading the quote again, maybe he is insinuating some players are more focused on finding a transfer.

When does Gerson turn 18? We can't sign him till then anyway and of course he has to get a work permit too. Would he qualify as an exceptional talent?

Yup. Still news i guess.
He'd be an excellent replacement but I just don't see how a deal would go through without us getting shaken down by Levy. Maybe Woodward's not arsed and he'll pay whatever the asking price is, however I saw somewhere that Lloris might have a buyout clause, anyone know if that's true?

I read somehere it isnt true, it was a reliable source. I think it was a tweet in the Lloris thread

Yeh I'd doubt it anyway, with De Gea in the last year of his contract we could end up swapping him out the team for Lloris and making a loss. That would hurt.

There'll always be hits and misses, Gerson would most likely play ACM or either wing for a Premier League side, positions which i'd say that i might be a bit worried about his pace.
But his talent is undeniable, he's showcasing it week-in-week-out in Brazil, although he might need to become a tad more consistent. Him being the captain of the u20 side for Brazil already should also tell you a lot about how highly he's regarded there.

That's the thing though he actually isn't. He hasn't played for their first team yet.

People keep mentioning Anderson like he joined United by word of mouth of being good whereas in fact he was immense and just won the Golden Boy award. A poor attitude and poor coaching from Fergie is what ruined Anderson, not his quality.

Warning: Mute that video if you're going to watch it.

He had a shot that could take down a UFO. It's more like Injuries and food are what hindered Anderson. He did have some good moments at United though. Just didn't live up to his potential.
