It would be hilarious if we do all our transfer business for less than what we paid for Di Maria.

Depay £25m
Gundogan £15m
Hummels £25m

Would be close if we got lucky with the Hummels transfer!

We're definitely signing a right back as well, so there's no way it'll be for less than what we paid for Di Maria.

Right, and I also imagine (i.e. hope) that van Gaal will get more than just Gundogan for the midfield. You can never have enough cover in midfield - especially with Carrick coming to towards the end of his career.

I think he should stay at Dortmund for at least one more season to prove his fitness and maybe then seek a new challenge abroad. Besides, he owes Dortmund a couple more seasons in my opinion. During his long injury lay off he received nothing but support from Dortmund and to immediately leave after his return seems a bit ungrateful to me. Looks like it's happening though, some reliable sources are reporting that he doesn't want to sign a new contract and will leave this summer, hence why we're linked with him.

Worth a punt for 15 million? - definitely, but only if he's not our only midfield signing. Otherwise would be way too risky for our quest for trophies next season.

Do people feel Gundogan would be a good signing? Where would he play?

I'd love it a lot, big question being if he'll be able to stay healthy.

I think that he'd provide cover and improve competition for both Herrera and Carrick/Blind with the potential to take over for both of them.

They keep saying they're reliable. While it may be true, I can't get myself excited for this, based on a paper I'd never heard of prior to their stories.

That would be a poor Summer imho.

Poor?

Hummels: apart from a season where the entire Dortmund squad was out of form he's regarded as one of the best in the world, suited to our style of play, a leader which we've lacked since Vidic.

Gundogan: £15m is a small gamble for a midfielder who was one of the best in the world during Dortmund's most successful period. At 24 there's every chance he'll get back to his best at United.

Depay: The watched attacking young player in Europe.

How can that be poor?

Because it would still leave the issues at RB, the lack of balance in midfield, and upfront not dealt with.

Hummels is a waste of money. the only CB we should be looking at is Otamendi.

Err, you think those will be our only signings?

Right back and striker are nailed on too. And our midfield balance is fine (Carrick/Blind for DMC, Gundogan/Herrera for CM, Mata/Di Maria for AM, etc).

£21.5m for Gundogan (€30m) is a fair price. He's only just 24 and still has his best years ahead of him imo.

Thats what the original post I quoted seemed to be implying.

My mistake if it wasn't.

It is a bit risky paying €30m euros for someone with a chronic back injury.

How is it chronic?
He hasn't missed any games due to his back injury since he returned from being out over a yet with it in late september / early october.

I read somewhere that it is still hindering his movement so in my book that is chronic
