Imagine co-ownership across borders, say, 50 % of the player is owned by Athletic Bilbao the other 50 % is owned by Tottenham. Stuff of nightmares that.

Oops just put this in the Hummels thread and then remembered it's meant to go in here

Levy will squeeze 40m out of us for him.
Hard to blame him, we're screwed because DDG has 1 year left on his contract and is only likely to want to go to Madrid (assuming he wants to leave, which we all hope isn't true). In short there wont be a bidding war for DDG and Madrid could realistically wait until he's out of contract next year if we set the price too high.

Lloris on the other hand is signed up til 2019 and would probably be more motivated by CL football which gives him more options of destinations resulting in much more realistic interest.

Not sure on accuracy, however, there have been rumours of a CL related clause in Lloris contract.

Anyway, we have our replacement. Valdes was always insurance should DDG go.

Agreed, he'll get at least 1 season in nets, it would be madness not to at least try him as a cost effective option. With a more solid defence and midfield in front of him, Valdes wont need to be as good as DDG is.

We'll still be linked to signing Nico Gaitán when he's an OAP in a retirement home playing FIFA 2065 on his virtual reality headset

And so Evans future should be, he has shown absolute zero progress this season and looked terrible every time he has played for us, even for the U21's a few days ago wasn't he rubbish there too ? He's 27 now and prone to a few injuries every season and I used to really like the guy playing for us but the ship has sailed, he needs to move on in the summer.

I agree with this but the same can be said for Jones - he has not progressed and is every bit the liability that Evans currently is.

Yeah, that's not true at all.

Had a run of good performances leading up to the nonsense against Newcastle.

Difference is Phil Jones is 23 whereas Jonny Evans is 27. He's also been one half of the best centre back partnership we've had this season.

Name me one defender who was an established worldbeater at 23 ? If you are 27-28 and still struggle to develop into the first team sheet at a club like United, then questions have to be raised obviously.

He is not a bad player but just has't progressed to a level we all thought he would. In order to buy a new CB someone has to go and he is the first choice.

I still think we need 6 CBs next season, especially if we don't get cover for the LB position.
Smalling
Jones
Hummels*
Evans
Rojo
McNair

* or equivalent

I've read this from a couple of people and I'm really not sure its the case. I think he only played one recent game before Newcastle, against Sunderland where admittedly we kept a clean sheet.

I try not to go overboard about him but I do think he's stopped progressing and hasn't developed into the player we hoped. At 27, and with us likely bringing in a new central defender in the summer, it's time to let him go I feel.

Move Evans on and that's reasonable I reckon. Make a decision on Jones next summer.

Not sure I get your point. Isn't that exactly what I'm saying? Jones is four years Evans' junior and has shown more promise in a back two with Smalling more than anyone other defender we have.

Rio Ferdinand was 23 when he joined united and was already a beast. Varane is only 21 (22 in 3 days time) and he's already pretty damn good, this time 2 years he'll still be 23 so could easily be a world beater by then.

Its unlikely for a player to be so well rounded at this age but not impossible. teh concern though with Jones is that his injuries are going to limit his ability to improve. If he got clear of them and played in a settled defence then i think by 27 he could be world class. But thats a big if and United may lose patience with him long before then.

Oopsie, my reaction was referred to

''I agree with this but the same can be said for Jones - he has not progressed and is every bit the liability that Evans currently is.''

Everton would be a good destination for Evans, what with Jagielka ageing and Alcaraz being generally useless. Maybe chuck him in for a deal with Coleman or McCarthy.

why don't we offer Chicharito to clubs like Everton, Soton, they could send us Barkley/Schneiderlin.. they are mostly packed in that position but it would be nice to see him playing in the Premier League
