Intersting that Van Gaal takes his GK coach (makes sense i guess, as he's his No.3 I think), opposition scout and fitness coach with him on what seems to be a scouting trip
Fergie took Eric Steele and Phelan to Atletico Madrid to watch De Gea if I remember correctly, they were spotted in the stands. Just because he is a particular coach doesn't mean he cannot rate any other players IMO. LVG obviously trusts Hoek's judgement.

And remember our goalkeeper was playing in that match, so for him to watch the game, perhaps watch a few players with de Gea in particular makes sense.

In fairness there is a difference between taking a GK coach to scout a goalkeeper and taking one to scout a winger.I think they where primarily just 4 Dutch guys watching their country play.

That said it is a good excuse to watch Depay without obviously being seen to be scouting him.

Exactly.

Hoek is always the one giving instructions to players coming on. So he seems just more than a goalkeeping coach.

No one thinks that Frans Hoek was there to scout Vermeer? Not that I'd want him, but hey.

Vermeer is a good keeper, van Gaal is a fan. He was his first choice at Holland untill he lost his spot to Cillessen at Ajax. He moved to Feyenoord but I've read speculation van Gaal wanted him here as a backup to de Gea, which he declined because he wanted to play. Not sure if this is true, but it could well be.

He might still be interested, but I doubt it. We've got 2 good keepers at the moment and I'm not convinced yet that de Gea is leaving.

I very much doubt LVG would be going there to "scout" Vermeer they would already know everything about him.

It's probably as harmless as them watching a great game of football with a few of our players already on the pitch, but you know how the press get wind of it.

The De Jong who was on the bench for the Netherlands side who looked a lot better without him?
Hence my excitement. Van Gaal clearly saw how a team players better without De Jong, and the potential of not signing De Jong has me salivating.

Did I save myself? No? OK then.

Wenger isn't interested in another attacking midfielder/forward?

He failed one of the essential tests:
1) Is he french
2) Does he at least understand french
3) Will he crack under pressure
4) Will he perform brilliantly when all pressure is gone

There are no actual quotes in the article. AS just stirring shit up.
Yep and even suggesting that the deal might fall through if United dont set a reasonable price or might take place next year really covers their arse from all angles.

We can't let any of our PL rival take Pogba, he'd be the next step up for any midfield in the league.

Funny thing is, should that AS article have said 'United to sign Bale' we would have all called bullshit. I'm holding out until official confirmation of a transfer or lack thereof before I start refusing to leave home and dining on ice cream.
