Transfer Muppets Rejoice

The Mods have been far too trigger happy with promotions lately. Just thought I'd use the transfer forum privilege to make this point.

Sneijder, Modric, Sanchez, Benzema, Wilshire. De Gea and Rodwell will do just fine.

Chuck in that Madrid no7 for good measure.

feck it, lets resign Goldenballs as club mascott too.

From the Daily Mail:

'There were unconfirmed rumours in London on Saturday morning of a breakfast meeting between United owners the Glazer family and Portuguese super-agent Jorge Mendes. What conversation topics may have been on the menu is open to speculation.'

That will just be about finalizing the De Gea transfer.

Does he manage De Gea?

He is the agent for Ronaldo, Mourinho, Nani and Anderson as well as Bebe.

Discounting the first two, he could be discussing contract or transfer issues for the latter three?

De Gea is in the process of changing to him as his agent, apparently that is why the transfer isn't being confirmed by him despite what Fergie said the other night.

I think we all know Ronnie isn't coming back and Ando and Nani just signed new deals not that long ago. As for Bebe', I think it's still heads down and hope with him.

As I said, 'discounting' Ronaldo; I think we'd all love him back but it ain't gonna happen, purely because even if he's unhappy at Real and wants to leave, his success on the field there means Real aren't going to take a hit on the money they paid for him, he'd cost at least as much as we sold him for and we wouldn't pay 80m squid for anyone!

(I'd probably pay it for Messi in a talking green-velvet frog world)

There's supposed to be some kind of clause re Ronaldo's contract, in that he can return to us for the same fee Real paid. Don't know if there's any truth in this, tbh.

Yep, they are basically built around him as we were a couple of years ago, he's there for the duration.

The only other Mendes guy I know of linked with us is that young Argie winger Iturbe who is going to Porto, there were various stories saying we would be taking him from Porto if he succeeded there, however I doubt the Glazers would bother themselves with a smaller transfer like that.

Does it really matter? I would buy him in a heartbeat, but he's most certainly not coming back. Real haven't pursued and built their team around him to sell him. He on the other hand hasn't forced his way out to come back. For someone like Ronaldo, Spain is the dream - although for the life of mine I can't understand why reasonable players want to play for that circus.

Any links, quotes etc mate?

Not saying I don't believe you, just interested.

Nothing specific, sadly, mate; I've read it a number of times but, in truth, it may only have been forum speculation. I tried a Google search, and the only relevant stuff which came up stated that his buy-out clause ranges from £170m to £900m(!) :D

If you can't beat them on the pitch, try to do it off the pitch.

Real, Chelsea, City & United each buy one player off Barca to destroy their machine? ;)

Barca are supposed to be quite poor, right?

Not really, they've historically competed with any team to purchase big name expensive players; Cruyff, Maradona, Laudrup, Romario, Ronaldo, Rivaldo, Ronaldinho, Ibrahimovic, Villa etc.

They just have an excellent youth system, always have and always will...

I love Modric to come since Scholesy is leaving.

Well I dunno. A GK is a cert, but I'm not sure about Young, and I don't know whom we're going to sign for central mid.
Bale would be a great buy though; that lad has unparalleled pace and a decent foot. He was leaving Rafael in his wake which is saying something. Not sure if it'll happen for anything less than 35 mil though.

At seeing who'll play worse and get subbed off first?

And they weren't paying their players with loans when signing most of those players however. Barcelona's current side comes at a massive cost. It will be interesting to see how much longer they can keep paying those massive wages. They risk losing more larger long term success if they keep running at such losses.

If they keep winning, they'll keep generating masses of revenue, Barca have never been in trouble...

Excuse me? What exactly is wrong with Rafael?

I meant that when Bale was playing against Rafael, the only part Bale left Rafael trailing was in seeing who could be shit and get subbed off first. Rafael was brilliant in that game and didn't get as much praise as he should have for keeping Bale quiet.

How much more do you think they can bleed out of their tv deal? As successful as Barcelona have been in recent years, they still aren't Manchester United or Real Madrid big globally. They are in trouble and its the reason they've now got that ugly as shit logo on their team shirts as of next year.

Right now Messi is the draw for Barcelona. Nobody else comes close to his marketability in that side nor are they necessarily liked. Spain won the world cup with many players from that side and nobody gave a crap.

And btw, the more they keep winning the larger performance payouts and wages will get almost nullifying any financial gain.

I think this summer will be a real test of our ambition. Sunday night showed that we are still not in the same league as Barcelona (although pretty much nobody is right now). Do we step up the game, open the cheque book and try to put together a world class team of that kind of calibre?

Or do we simply continue doing what we have been doing - signing highly talented youngsters and snapping up some fantastic bargain signings. We will continue to challenge for the league and compete in the CL but will not be regarded as a truly great team, as was the case this year when the media often claimed (wrongly) that we did not deserve to win the league etc

This is a genuine choice, im not trying to get at complete muppetry and suggesting we have to sign 7 world class players to stand a chance of competing, but our weaknesses are obvious at the moment - and the main one is central midfield. If we really wanted to take our game to the next level then we could get rid of some of the deadwood in the squad and bring in two top CMs.
I know that a strong squad is important, but we could easily clear out a few names - PIG, Brown, De Laet, Gibson, Obertan, Owen and even Berbatov, not to mention Hargreaves, VDS, Neville and Scholes due to retirement/injury.

Thats a lot of outgoing names on the teamsheet. All we really need is a couple of proper top quality CMs to take us to the next level.

Schweinsteiger and one of Modric/Sneijder/Fabregas/Banega.

Do that (along with De Gea of course), and I'd be a very happy chappy. Unfortunately those three players would cost the better part of £100m between them, unless we chose Banega who would drop it a bit.

---------De Gea-----------
Fabio---Rio-----Vidic--Evra-
-----------Carrick----------
---Schweinsteiger-Sneijder--
Ronaldo--------------Nani---

See who wins the fecking champions league then.

If we all chip in a fiver in, it'll happen

Rossi and Rooney on the wings with Nani and Tony on the bench? Muppet fail.
