Transfer Muppets Rejoice

We most definitely are not going to buy a load of flair players and suddenly turn into the Brazil of 80's. We will, hopefully, buy a midfield general, someone who gets stuck in. A less injured Essien if there is such a player out there. I really don't think we're going for an attacking midfielder at this stage and i'll be very suprised if we bought anyone other than Varane, Young and De Gea.

I don't know whether thats the right decision or not because there are so many variables at count here that we don't know. Development of Youth players, Development of players who looks like making breakthroughs. Something that fergie would know quite well because he sees the players week in week out in the training ground.

So we can hope for a Sneidjer or a Hamsik or a Pastore. But buying them would mean we would have to change a type of system that we have going which has brought us quite a bit of success.

the type of team Fergie wants depends on what our priority is. I believe it will always remain the League..as it should be. The CL is a bonus..a huge one. but still a bonus.

The English League is the toughest in the world. I'm not sure a team like Barcelona could have gone through 38 match and have all the players they had available.

I think Fergie sees the CL as much more than a bonus, his anger and frustration last night showed that, I've never seen him so raw. I think in the past he has looked to add players to our mix that will improve us in Europe, he knows we are already the front runners in England and have the base to keep that up, so buying a player who would add to our CL level would probably be very much a focal point this summer.

A bit of an overstatement there. The English premier league and the Spanish league are close atm and some might even say the la liga is actually better and they have a good claim to do so. As much as we have to call ours better tbh.

They're a great team are barca and would have had few problems winning our league at an canter.

Exactly. If you watch the press conference he's like a deer in head lights. There's a part where he's asked a question and he's somewhere else. The champions leagues a real issue and, if fans are greedy it's because Sir Alex is greedy...he won't be satisfied and maybe yesterday will have been the nudge we needed to move on.

Forget about beating Barca, we only play them 1 match in 100. It's the other 99 that matter. And for those, Young, De Gea are the right kind of signings.

To beat Barca would need getting one or more of Busquets, Messi, Xavi or Iniesta off them - not going to happen. A bigger problem is not getting to grips in midfield with premier league teams away from home since that scenario is more common than facing Barcelona.

But no less troubling i agree. Our away form imo can be directly attributed to Fergie's insistence on playing 4-4-2.

A 3 man midfield covers our deficiencies somewhat and opting for a 2 so often, merely highlights and exposes such deficiencies. Surely we either need more complete players who offer a wider variety of attributes or we need to change the system away from home so we are better able to compete more competently in the more fiercely contested midfield battles away from OT.

Our transfer policy should not be governed by our inability to beat Barca, but more on improving our ability to gain better control away from home. Teams always allow us more space to play at OT which is why our record there, is in such direct contrast to our away form.

We have to improve our ability to maintain control while under pressure, until we acquire players more capable of performing consistently under pressure, we will not really pose any more of a threat to Barca or the bigger domestic rivals away from home than at present.

Well I dunno. A GK is a cert, but I'm not sure about Young, and I don't know whom we're going to sign for central mid.
Bale would be a great buy though; that lad has unparalleled pace and a decent foot. He was leaving Rafael in his wake which is saying something. Not sure if it'll happen for anything less than 35 mil though.

Rafael has had Bale in his pocket when he's faced him, what are you on about?

Rewriting history at its best

Not that excited by Young. A top quality CM is, and always has been the priority.

Varane, De Gea, Young....that's all we'll be getting

Muppets

More than happy with that. I want to see Pogba, Morrison and Tunnincliffe (i can never remember how to spell his name) come through.

I think Fergie will be a bit of a transfer muppet this summer.

I hope we get a couple of world class signings this summer. We'll need them as i am sure our competitors will improve a lot next season. Namely Shitty and Chelski...

Hmm... ok.. maybe i've got it all mixed up. I somehow remember him outgunning Rafael for pace.. now that you ask me I don't even remember when.. and i can't remember when we even played them last. I'm all muddled..

I guess logging on here and rambling after a few whiskeys isn't such a good idea. :)

I think the Glazers are not Sugar-daddys who want to see the club win the title/Champions league for their own satisfaction.

They must be fecking delighted with how the team has performed since taking over.

They know we have a pretty good squad and being such a big club we are always going to be there and there about for all the big trophies.

I doubt they will allow us to spend record breaking fees cause they will be happy with the PL and a final appearance in the CL.

Obviously we will spend this season but I bet not more than 40 mil net.

Name one player in our squad who is as good as Young when it comes to set pieces.

You don't sign players solely for their abillity to take a good set piece. It's a welcome bonus, yes. But it's never an essential requirement. I think he might be a useful squad player, but I'd rather we focus our attention on the centre of our midfield.

A lot of people on here are not very enthusiastic about Ashley Young, but I am. He has bags of talent, and has shown consistently how good he is, and at times has practically won games for Villa single handedly. Imagine how good he could be with Sir Alex as his mentor playing with the likes of Giggs, Carrick, Rooney and Hernandez every week.

If we got Young, it would be for a good price, he is experienced in the Premiership and I think he would be a similar sort of buy to Valencia, where we didn't really seem optimistic at first but he then turned into one of our most important players.

Could see it being like 2007.

We sign Young, De Gea and Varane early doors. Basically emulating Nani, Anderson and Hargreaves being signed early doors in 2007.

Then we'll have a summer linked with a another star, in 2007 it was Tevez, this summer it will probably be someone like Modric or Sneijder.

Then, after a protracted transfer saga, they'll either sign, or they'll sign with a rival, and the muppets will commit suicide.

--------DeGea
Raf---Rio----Vidic---Evra
--------Rodwell
---Modric------Ander
Val----------------Neymar
--------Rooney

Think above is what we need to go to the next level, and don't think it would cripple us financially. Berba could be used as makeweight in Modric deal, hopefuly the brazilian contigent would make it an easy move for Neymar and Gibson could be used in exchange for Rodwell. I would have gone for Sneijder though we know Modric can play in EPL and he's a worker, which is needed to enforce pressing game.

If we sign a commanding central midfielder in the mould of De Rossi or Schweinsteiger (who has signed a new contract, I know) along with De Gea, that is all it would take in my opinion.

----------------De Gea----------------
Twin-------Rio----------Vidic-----Evra
--------De Rossi----- Anderson-------
Valencia------Rooney-----------Nani
---------------Hernandez--------------

Nice strong team that, and with a good balance too. If we were to sign a winger, my choice would be Bale. He would be expensive yes, but worth every penny.

--------------De Gea--------------------
-Rafael----Rio--------Vidic-----Evra--
-Valencia--Modric---Carrick---Nani/Young
-----------------Rooney----------------
---------Hernandez--------------------

Is how I'd like to see us lineup next season

Young would be a pointless signing imo.

We're crying out for a central midfield player. I think he has to break the bank to bring in the right player this summer and develop Anderson into a something, or sell him.

De Rossi's actually crap, Fabregas is the player I'd want us to sign, but never likely to happen. Hamsik might be a decent buy from what I've seen of him. Pastore looks fantastic if a small bit of a risk in the English league.

Anyway, these players plus obviously Sneijder are the types of players he's no doubt looking at because us having a shit midfield for almost an entire campaign was been blindly obvious.

Thanks Mr. Gill

I really think that our midfield needs an overhaul. A midfield enforcer without doubt. But if we can get someone like Ever Banega, who, from what little i've seen, can defend and attack quite well, our midfield could become very very good indeed.

Don't get me wrong, we'll still most probably win the league with this squad, no additions. But we'll have to contend to some pretty ordinary performances ever so often.

I'm releasing my inner transfer muppet for a while, but spalsh the cash fergie, splash it on someone like Banega or a Younger Essien (surely there must be somewhere out there).

/Muppet

Realistically though i'd see us buying A young defender, A young and De Gea. The great man would have us winning the league again and make no qualms, it'll only be because of the brilliance of the man and not the individual brilliance of the players. The problem with that is , the man who succeeds the great scot would have a big big problem in his hands. Either we splash out now whilst the great man is at helm or have his successor splash out the cash. On a personal level, i'd rather have fergie spend the money than have the next manager spend a similar amount.

Sorry Clique mate but I can't see Fergie not buying a central midfielder this season, I'm pretty convinced we will someone.

I don't think we have any choice but to 'buy big' this summer, 'no value in the market' or not; it's either that or we'll be left trusting to luck that some other team beats Barca on the way to the CL Final. Although the League remains important, I've the feeling that SAF will now prioritise the CL.

Who though, thats the question!. Charlie Adam?. To be fair, every midfielder we've been linked with recently has left me a bit underwhelmed. Modric isn't the answer to our problems. We've created enough through our wingers as we mostly do. But both carrick and fletch this season have been quite mediocre when it mattered the most.
