Of course it would have solved plenty of the issues. I am certain that people wouldn't have bid 60 mill for Rivaldo if Kaka was available for 10 mill at the same time.

Cheaper players would still have gone for pretty cheap but that influences the results much less than Kaka/Totti going for peanuts.

The issue with Kaka/Totti was of course that you couldn't build a team around him as the players you needed for that you'd have to risk picking up before you picked up Kaka/Totti. If you then failed to pick up Kaka/Totti you'd have suddenly wasted your entire budget on a team perfectly suited to Kaka.

So if Kaka was available from the get-go people would happily pay his value because they could then proceed to build a team around him.

You made a mistake in not deciding to go for the Milan diamond early on Would have been easy to assemble the front 6.

In any case, Drogba works well with Inzaghi. You don't need a switch at all.

I played diamond last draft. Wanted Pirlo in a different position, but then got no joy pinging it to some posters here. Seems Pirlo will only get votes in a diamond. So had to revert back to a diamond a bit later!

You could have played him in a midfield of three as a deep lying play maker like Balu with Veron

This essentially allows Pirlo to play the same role as in diamond. Those two CMs can't be of Lampard variety though, Gattuso/DDR/Vieira type would have done.

I was trying this before, but in a more narrow formation, but the ones I bounced it off were not that convinced!

Doubt it. Even if I go through, my team is probably more difficult to improve than a few others with one or two obvious weaknesses. I probably get the one top player I want, because I can outbid anyone, but that doesn't mean my team improves as much as others do. For example, if I buy Messi to play him instead of Crespo and Aldo buys Figo to upgrade Hazard, Aldo's team improved more than mine.

I'd love to be part of the reinforcement auction, I think it will be very different. No idea how it will pan out, but it should be fun again.

I don't think Messi is the right buy for you. You would be better off getting upgrades on Lopez and Overmars. If you get Nedved and Figo it would be better than getting just Messi.

I would never replace Crespo with Messi of course, but the point still stands. I don't think I have a clear weakness in my team, which makes reinforcements often a bit more difficult.

More interesting, how do you guys rate Messi as a winger in comparison to Figo, Nedved, Giggs? What's the best 3 man attack you can build in the draft? Is Ronaldo - Ronaldo - Messi stronger than Ronaldo - Messi - Figo ?

Or in my case, would Lopez - Crespo - Messi be stronger than Lopez - Crespo - Nedved?

I think if you played Mess as a winger, you would simply have too many people saying that you are not utilizing the best player on your team to his maximum. Not saying it would be correct, but that's what will happen.

I know what you are saying about your team. That's why I said you have a very solid one but without any name catchy players to bring votes or turn a tight tie in your favour. You just need those and you are fine.

The best front three?

If Messi is playing false 9, then I think Ronaldo's wide forward rule suits him to a tee. As far as the third position goes, I think Nedved would suit the combo of Messi-Ronaldo best.

I don't think having both Ronaldo's in the same team is needed really.
 
Yeah I agree with all that. Still, it's not that easy. Luck is also involved, it really depends on the players available in the next reinforcement round. Nedved for example is clearly the better pick for my team than Figo, but if Figo is available and Nedved isn't, is it worth to ignore the winger position and strengthen somewhere else, because Nedved could become available later?

I probably go out in the first round anyway, so I don't need to make all these difficult decisions :lol:.

Why do you think Figo does not suit you? I think he would be a clear upgrade over Overmars.

He does suit the team, but Nedved helped Crespo score a shitload of goals in 00/01, so he's clearly the better choice here imo. He played with Crespo, Simeone, Veron and Lopez at Lazio, you can't find a better fit for my team.

Crespo's season with Nedved in his side was his highest scoring one in his career, I had them together last draft and that pair didn't receive any credit as a pair though..
