Transfer Muppet Fantasy

I like the Veron, Simeone, Crespo connection a lot though. And after all the attention my Cruyff team in the worldcup draft and your and Tito's Totti team in the sheep draft got, I didn't want to create a false 9 team again. It's time for something different now, at least for me.

Completely agree with you there

Oh yeah! Can't believe I got one of the best defenders reunited with his former partners for 14M!

Welcome Frank de Boer, who joins Jaap Stam who made him what he was.

Van der Sar in goal as well, right? That's beautiful.

I actually believe the best tactics is to go big for a couple of players early on, getting two or three players for about 150M who are "vote winners", than sit tight and make a squad from cheap players easily...

Take this team for example:
Perruzi(10M)
Sagna(10M) -- de Boer(14M) -- Materazzi(10M) -- Alba(13M)
Cocu(18M) -- Fabregas(12M)
di Maria(15M) -- Rui Costa(30M) -- Ronaldinho(70M)
Ronaldo(95M)

that leaves you with some money to spare and that's a great team.

Looking good. Yours and Aldo's are the teams I'm liking right now.

That's sort of been my strategy as well, and getting teammates together.

Pires (32) ------------------- Adriano (10) ------------------- Figo (71)
------------------------------------ AM (?) ----------------------------------
----------------- Baraja (10) ----------------- Albelda (10) -------------
Cole (34) --------- Ayala (29) ------ Silva (49) --------- Salgado (10)
---------------------------------- César (10) ------------------------------

I think I may have the most 10m acquisitions, with 5. :D

What do people think?

Logic for switching Keane and Toure is that Toure is on the side with Beckham and Neville, both with high work rate and good defensive abilities too at their peaks.

will get picked apart. no balance.
defence is too slow.

only thing going good for you is Keane. the rest is not balanced enough for my liking. Get rid of Tevez, and get a proper left-sided attacker and the whole thing will look much better.

as for the defence, good luck!

Yeah, Toure and Tevez will lose the match for you.

Get a proper LM and switch to 4-4-2.

The graphic isn't showing the positions they will take up when they attack. The strategy is built around work rate and sitting deep, then springing on the counter. The team is full of energy, pace, and work rate, with the exception of Yaya and RVN who have the luxury of doing what they do best because rest of the team works hard.

Defenses don't have to be fast to be successful, typical football myth and poor analysis. Defenses require intelligence mixed with aggression, which Hyppia and Terry have. Add to that the team sits deep, where is the room behind them and where does pace even factor in?

the graphic is not doing your favours, and neither is the fact that you are on redcafe.

it also depends on what one values in a defender.i don't rate the vidic/terry school of defending much, so i guess whatever you do it isn't going to change my outlook. especially i am not sure hyppia is the right partner for him.

as for tevez, i think it would have worked better if the striker was someone more mobile unlike RvN. I am not sure this formation is really going to help him. of course having beckham definitely helps on that front, but not sure how successful you are going to arguing the case for tevez/ aguero/RvN attack.

Touré isn't really a mis-match in this type unless he's coming up against a midfield that is simply better than the one he's in.

I mean, if Rio "is scared to take his kids to school because United are underperforming" Ferdinand is a stalwart in these drafts, why can't Touré? @Aldo

Btw reply to the PM :p

What's the rep here on Malouda? Not exciting but solid? Bad ?

Malouda's always exciting. He moves stumbles so well. You wonder when he'll lose his balance, but he keeps going on and on past people.

I'd say he's a jack of all trades. Dribbling, getting wide, cutting in, passing, goals, defensive work - he can do it all, but none very effectively. So he MUST come with a good LB, and that too if your team focus is elsewhere. Not a vote-winer, perhaps, but a vote-saver, definitely.

He's a bit of a nothing player for me. I was hoping you'd bid for Totti and play him in behind Drogba and Eto'o.Now that would be sexy. As it is, I don't really see how you're going to set up with Gattuso-Pirlo-Deco-Malouda as your midfielders.

We need one draft without the 4-2-3-1. Boring!
Tevez maybe, but Toure? It's no fun playing drafts when people seem to have agenda's against certain players (not talking about you in particular, just in general).

So judgemental? I like Toure, but against any good midfield he will be questioned. With Tevez at flanks just makes it worse.

Malouda at left of diamond. Pirlo bottom and Deco top. Malouda played there for Chelsea and quite OK offensively and defensively. Nothing exciting, but does job.

No?

Aye, its functional but I do feel you were so well-placed to come up with something a bit more exciting. I think of Deco as being better suited to playing a bit deeper, so I'd have loved to have seen Totti or Kaka at the tip of the diamond instead.

But then that's what the draft matches are for. I might well be wrong about Deco's position, and there's a good chance I'm underrating Malouda's peak form. As ever I'm open to persuasion in the match threads.
