Finally, everyone's true colours re: Rivaldo show. Lots of drooling, lots of going on and on about what a great player he was (which he clearly was), but the fundamental issue is he is not someone you build a team around. Luxury player is a bit harsh (Stoichkov certainly isn't one), but with this TP business what shows is to what extent people value someone's contribution. Rivaldo competes with several players, some less talented than him, but ultimately doesn't provide "glue". As an individual player, right up there, but his impact on the collective isn't particularly significant so the TPs are better used elsewhere.

Thats a bit of a harsh assessment in the context of this game. Its just more evidence how crippling the 6TP is, with the only players you can justify accommodating being GOATs like Maradona and Ronaldo.

Probably is a bit OTT. People only really seem to have found space for Maradona, Ronaldo, van Basten, Cristiano and Messi (and Laudrup but trippy wants to flog him). Beyond that you are sacrificing three, 3, THREE, cracking defenders... so no one is doing it.

I actually like how crippling it is. Look at Annah, he got rid of Scholes to get proper fullbacks. His team is better a a result, I couldn't give a flying feck if he has Scholes or half a zillion able box-to-box midfielders who can do a fine job there, what he can't have is Sergi and Jorginho. It makes you go back to tactics, what are the key components, who is a must... I really can't see Rivaldo being a must. Nice to have, that's all. Take your team, I prefer Kaká there. Is Kaká a better individual to Rivaldo? Nope. Will the team work better with Kaká? Yes. Then why would you spunk 6 TPs on him?

Of course, when we don't have such constraints Rivaldo would be a "no-brainer" because he wins more votes. Effectively, it makes it all more honest really.

You don't have three TP defenders, do you? If you mean getting Rivaldo as an option instead of Cristiano the yeah, maybe, he is not glue either. A squad player for options, just like Henry and Figo are at other teams. You would be insane to bench Platini for Rivaldo though.

@Annahnomoss - can you clarify the rule as to when Sammer counts as 3TP and when 2 TP. My understanding is that he has to play as a pure defender now and can't be tactically asked to join the MF. Is that right?

That is correct. A libero is 3 TP points, a CB/Sweeper/Stopper are 2 TP points. So someone like Baresi who loves intercepting a ball and then pushing slightly forward if there is a chance to set up an attack - would count as CB's. Unless used in the libero role he could play of course.

Someone in a libero role who leaves the defensive line to push forward as a midfielder in the offense counts as 3 TP points.

A man marker would be hard to judge, we haven't discussed that yet.
