Transfer fantasy draft

He might be considered regal, in terms of the football history of the 1980s, but his name is Briegel, and not Briegal - as he has been unjustly labeled as throughout this draft.

Fair is fair and Briegel is Briegel, and he was a great defender, nobody can say otherwise.

Proper-counter attacking side with those wingers, Gullit and that Italian backline. Seems vulnerable to a 10, though, and to counters when Donadoni or Barnes have a cross cleared and Ince and Gullit have gone a bit gung-ho.

I don`t know much about Briegal. You might wanna sell him hard when the games come up.

Is suppose to be a very good LB, will do my research before the match. Might ask @Balu, he is german afterall.

I think Ince,Gullet and Albertini have the discipline to protect the backline and take turns.

My bad, am not good with names of footballers I didnt watch as anto will probably testify. Drove him mad in the all time draft.

You'd better not face Annah or Aldo will post that Maradona vs. Baresi clip at least five times ;)

Dont worry, have a secret plan for maradona. :p

Thanks, been doing my head in for days that but I'm too frequently anal about such stuff. I really don't understand why you would want to play someone whose name you can't spell, it doesn't even help people go find out more about him.

Outstanding player. Was always referred to as "the one with the glass eye" and I wondered what it was based on as surely he couldn't be half-blind. It was only many years later that I realised it was a different way of referring to him as Terminator, which first came to the screens in his heyday.

Yes! Good point. And a gruesome point too. The machine like quality of a certain kind of German footballer - indeed.

He was top notch, though - no question about it. I'd pay his room and board for my team, actually - but I have an Italian Terminator to the left who edges the old glass eye.

I'm done with transfers. And please take off Angloma from the bid list.

:( I could have almost certainly nailed my Fantasy Draft wet dream here (allowing for TPs). Shame I was so busy.

The only thing missing would be those fabulous Danish shirts, best kit ever IMO

@Kazi to play Alves i would need to drop Keane, Vieira, of Laudrup. I don't really intend to do that. Te bid for alves was more planning ahead to offer options if I went through. Alves is a wonderful fullback.

I decided that there is no point in adding to my squad for options if i would buy crap players. But to pick up Henry, Figo and Alves at 35m total is adding quality and options going forward should I progress. There was no reason not to get them as reinforcements wouldn't have been much better.

Sorry bud.

A bit too optimistic that you would have gotten Boniek so easily

@antohan

By the way - I've put in a couple of bids.

Aldair versus Ricardo Gomes - what do you think? I rate them both highly - and Aldair is the eye catcher, in some ways, if you will - since he is the World Cup winner (and, ye gods, two times finale player). But Gomes was a damned sharp defender - part (and parcel) of Brazil's more "astute and solid" approach in 1990 - and might easily have played Aldair's part in 1994 if he hadn't gotten injured.

And then I had to have Rocheteau. I love Rocheteau. And I'm even considering fielding him over Littbarski.

To think that you'd still left with at least 70m budget after buying those players.

I bidded on him thinking that Sammer's is going to outbid me again. Didnt expect to get him, was hoping for cole as my LB.

wanna swap?

No chance, brother. I just praised your man out of general courtesy, and I stand by the praise - but he has nothing on Cabrini.

But...Ashley Cole? No, no - Briegel over Cole, surely. Cole? When has anyone ever compared him to a Terminator? Forget it - Briegel walks all over Cole.

I was ready to go all the way with Stam.

Add up how much that team cost: I would have ~80M spare for individual bidding wars. Would you have paid 100M for Boniek? Doubt it.

In any case, it was quite feasible to draft it from the off, let alone finalise it with later reinforcements (e.g. when I thought about getting in I obviously needed both you and Aldo to go out before I could get Boniek and Guardiola, with Laudrup out it no longer looked like a plan, not even remotely).

When you see it as borderline as that you may as well pick Aldair and his winner medal. You already have enough sellign to do ;)

Agree on Rocheteau, I suggested him to Aldo earlier. With Boniek gone he looked a brilliant alternative to play on that right side of his with Bossis behind him and Platini pulling the strings. I think Littbarski is the better player, but it depends what you are asking of them. If you are playing on the counter the Green Arrow could well be your man but Littbarski would be more appropriate in other setups and has more to his game.

Non-essential. Could have picked him or a replacement later, but would have happily chased you to 50M to get it nailed, just because all my other players would have been so ridiculously cheap once Boniek was momentarily out of the equation.

You would have surely gotten Pep in the next round. :p

I never got the chance to consider - well I decided to keep Weah which I was interested to sell and went towards a different shape than the one which would have accommodated Rocheteau.

Yes - the question is whether the voters even care. But if they do, I guess they'll go for Aldair - as he is, regardless of anything else, a proven WC winner in the starting XI of a team nobody can dismiss.

Still - who cares about the voters? I'm going to think about it. I'll end up with a CB pairing which doesn't conform perfectly to the "player" + "stopper" stereotype anyway.

Good thoughts on Rocheteau and Littbarski - thanks, man. I agree with your general assessment - Littbarski, to me, is one hell of a player. And he's going to start over Rocheteau, I think. He's better for the exact role I have in mind too - or so I think. We'll see about that, though.

I would count on Littbarski to get far more involved in the build up. While both could play several positions, including winger, I fancy Rocheteau more as a forward and Littbarski as a trequartista.
