If you`re worried about their 6 dominating the game then there is. See Pirlo vs Rooney, World Cup 2010, or for a counter, Welbeck vs Xabi Alonso, Champions League, Bernabeu, 2013.

I might be a bit more reactive, but I don`t think there`s a spot on the field where you can`t at least make the case for preferring a player who defends much better and scores more often.

I was planning on bidding for him or Figo, not because I needed them, and TP was an issue, but I can{t see any good reaosn not to add top quality to the squad, particularly not knowing who you will be facing and when the aaverage team doesn't have a theme. Just pick a few extra players and then decide whether you need Henry, Figo or whoever else is using your TPs.

That said, this format really reduces the occurrence of glaring weaknesses so you may never have anything to exploit by emphasising the winger over the striker and viceversa.

Agreed. You add more graft and firepower while switching the playmaking from Riquelme to Matthäus. That I suppose is what you want peak Matthäus in your team for. He will go about it in a different way to Riquelme, but if you are facing a good midfield scrap that certainly is the better way to go about it.
 
From what I have read Tigana mostly stayed back for France and played the ball from the deep. If he is sitting in front of the defense, there is no reason why Lothar can't play his box to box role. Whole point about Mathaus being the best all round MF of all time is that he can manage both offensively and defensively.

Spot on. Saying Enrique won't be a great option is crazy, very different styles of play but I would probably prefer Enriques work rate if he is going to play Tigana and Matthaus in their peak roles.

Tigana always had a more defensive player by his side. Genghini (82) and Fernandez (84/86) in the national team and by Rohr/X at Bordeaux, while Giresse partnered him for both sides as offensive/creative partner. I think his goal in the 86wc against hungary is a pretty decent example what kind of player he was, even so that was his only goal for the national team. A very good box-to-box midfielder, that picked up the ball deep but tried to push forward if possible.
Matthäus was able to play any role on a very high level, but even Matthäus couldnt split into two players. If you use Matthäus as DM/CM you cant expect the performance, that won the ballon d'or.
 
Genghini wasn't more defensive than Tigana. He was a playmaker with excellent vision, passing and shooting. And a peach of a left foot.

The whole midfield worked pretty hard in their own half. Their were plenty of occasions where Platini was recovering the ball deeper than Ghengini or Tigana. Ghengini was a good presser but Tigana was the main ball winner in the team. The whole France team played really deep and worked as a unit. Genghini wasn't your traditional DM who would sit in front of defense, even in that game he would receive the ball deep and start moving forward immedeately. In terms of the "dirty work" Tigana was certainly doing more than the rest of the 3 in the square. Ghengini would have had more caps for France if he hadn't been there at the same time as Platini and Giresse, because his main strengths were playmaking by far.

I don't think anybody sees a problem with it if you play Matthaus in a defensively balanced role rather than his offensive peak. I played him and Didi, who would be similar to Tigana as he was a deep lying playmaker who loved to drive forward if the chance presented itself.

The only role I could play Matthaus in next to Didi was as a defensively balanced role, only driving forward when he really got a great chance.

Not really, I completely agree with what Balu has said so far about it. Playing Lothar as one of the two pivots in a 4-2-3-1 certainly limits his offensive capabilities which absolutely played an important role when he was at his peak. He was the second highest scorer in Serie A in the 90-91 season with 16 goals and he was surely an important attacking player at Inter who provided a lot more defensive protection that your team has. But it's absolutely no different from how Lothar has been used in all draft games. But that's the only so called issue because in terms of dominating a midfield not many have been superior than Lothar. I don't see a problem with Tigana there, really.

It's basically a more attacking strategy than you will see in real life. But that has always happened in fantasy games. In reality it would be very ballsy to deploy Lothar in the role he had at Inter in a 4-2-3-1 but at the same time, him being so complete always gives you the flexibility to instruct him to whatever suits you best.

Balakov was a beast in his prime. He was influential in our tour in USA 94', where we knocked out Germany. Romario and/or Drogba will play depending on the type of defense my opponents have. They can also play together in a 442 or a diamond where Drogba will be a primary target man, allowing Romario to do his magic. Giggs and Sorin can penetrate virtually any flank while Ljungberg is...well Ljungberg. Mascherano and or Dunga are defensive beasts and will offer superb support to my defense, which with Chiellini is not as weak as some might think.

PS: Followed your advises and try to show MY opinion on the players.
