Transfer Deadline Day

What did Kagawa cost, including all possible add-ons? Compare it with £1.25m .... then go figure as to why I say that Holtby will likely prove to be the best deal of this window.

Not important. You also dismissed pete's statement that he's a so-so player which has nothing to do with the fee.

You have double standards for Spurs and everyone else's signings.

Who do you think is the best signing then?

Zaha is coming next season, giggs will still be here.

How am I supposed to know when they've barely played for their new clubs and in some cases haven't played at all?

Giggs will be 40 in November. He has to retire at some point, very likely this year.

I don't even have a problem with someone calling Holtby a good signing. It's funny though how he jumps at pete for saying that he's a so-so player and talks about his performances for Schalke when he criticised United fans for doing the same with Kagawa.

Anyway, how many times have you seen Holtby play for Schalke, Glaston?

Besides, the best signing of the window will be the one who contributes most to the team. Van Persie isn't a worse signing than Adebayor just because he cost £24m compared to nothing.

Maybe thats why he wrote maybe probably? In my opinion it would be either holtby, zaha or that lb arsenal sign. Seeing as holtby cost the least of the three, it would be easier for him to be seen as a bargain signing.

The easiest way to explain this is to look at michu and persie. Michu has to do less to be seen as the best signing seeing as he cost very little compared to persie.

With the number of players signed in this window, its not an outlandish view to claim that holtby just might be seen as the best signing in a couple of years.

Of course he might. He might also be a poor signing, feck knows really.

I'm not sure I agree with comparing signings by fees.

He said 'very probably' which is a bit different. I don't even have a problem with that, I just pointed out that when we were excited about Kagawa he was silencing people by pointing out that he comes from a different league and could not do as well here (and it was also quite correct in a way), but once pete called Holtby a so-so player he began to point out his success at Schalke to prove him wrong. Either you do this one way or another, you can't have double standards because it makes no sense.

I don't expect him to explain the difference here though. His 'Rafael will never be half the player Kyle Walker is' is probably the worst predictions in the history of this forum given how it panned out (Rafa having an excellent season being arguably the best RB in the league), he does that once in a while.

Oh, and I'd add Sissoko to that list. At £2m he could prove to be a terrific signing for Newcastle.

You have to take signing fees into account, thats why carrol, torres, bebe are such big laughing stocks while berba is considered as a flop. If we had gotten hernandez for 20m, he would not have been thought of as a signing of the century, etc, etc.

Yeah, am only disagreeing with the signing of the season part, the rest of what you are saying is spot on.

Apparently Holtby is on 5m a year so big fecking deal. Lots of players are free transfers but you have to pay them massive wages. Its no fecking bargain.

Christ, last week he was on here celebrating the "we held United to a draw, at home" trophy, now its the "bestest signing ever" trophy. God forbid if Spurs ever actually did something worthwhile.

Well I'm not really disagreeing with his statement here, Holtby at that sort of money does look like an excellent piece of business.

I don't think Spurs can afford to pay him £100k a week so it's probably bollocks. Bild said Spurs offered him €4.3m a year which might actually be true, they are reliable. He has a 4 and a half year deal shich means they'll have to pay him €19m plus a fee, around €21m in total. That's not really cheap.

No their not!

This is off topic but I sure as hell can't be fecked to start a new thread.

What do you think United are planning in terms of transfer business in the Summer? I could pretty much guarantee that Sir Alex has a very good idea of what he wants to do.

With Zaha already confirmed to be joining up, I would imagine at least one or two of our 'front 4' will be moved on. It will be a very unpopular opinion but I think Valencia may be sold - and Henriquez loaned back out.

I think he will target an experienced GK to rotate with and mentor De Gea. Any experienced Spaniard GK's on the go? Lindegaard to therefore be sold or demoted to 3rd choice.

I'd guess a new LB to come in and rotate with Evra, although it depends how much faith we have in Buttner and Fabio to actually start important matches.

You'd think a CM is a must this summer and that it would be SAF's priority, but then again we've been thinking that since 2010. However, if Lampard did end up on a free (Chelsea would be mental) then I can't see Fergie not going for him. It's a SAF signing all over.

We will get a CM this summer. With the links with Wanyama, rumours that Strootman is the top target and now Capoue being mentioned I think we'll finally get another midfielder. I'd like to think we would stick with De Gea, but with Butland signed at Stoke it wouldn't surprise me if we brought in Begovic. Can't see much else.

I agree that a CM is a must and I can see your point about Lampard.

RVP is, without a doubt, the signing of the season so far. He's leading the league in goals. He's been influential in our position at the top. Transfer fees are irrelevant

For all the genius of Daniel Levy, he continuously fecks up in transfer windows. Moutinho and now Daimao.

He sold Modric and then bought Dembele for half the price.

Well Modric is a better player than Dembele, and the money hasn't been invested in the team yet. That ultimately means Spurs has suffered.

We'll get one more defensive CM, i think as Tunnicliffe is looking unlikely to be a starter here and Fletch is unlikely to make a come back.

We are Over reliant on Carrick even as things stand. Cleverley, Ando and Powell who'll come into reckoning more can cover the more attacking CM spot.

Plus can see us going for a CB, imo with Rio possibly leaving. Rest is sorted though, unless Nani leaves and we may need a winger.

I believe that is what will happen. From the current squad - Scholes/Rio will retire/leave, Giggs will sign another extension and Nani will leave. We will sign a new defender, CM and a more versatile wide player. Rodriguez will be my guess.

Is Powell still hurt? Haven't heard anything on him for a while now.

They have slowly and quietly crept up to the 4th place without making noise, unlike the last season, without any of their strikers at the top of their game. Their midfield has lacked the flair, but has been workman like in the matches up till now with Sandro and Dembele providing the base. They might suffer now that Sandro is out for quite a long time, but up till, I think they have been quite good.

I don't see how what we will do with Begovic? Will we sell Lindegaard? Will Begovic be content sitting on the bench for most of the games? I doubt so!

Nope.

He just came back before the trip to Qatar IIRC. Played a BCD friendly for the U21's a few days ago.

Deloitte say Premier League clubs spent £120m this Jan, double last year but well short of the £225m spent in the crazy Torres year of 2011

Odemwingie like Tevez will be forgiven by the fans until he goes in the summer.

Odemwingie like Tevez will be forgiven by the fans until he goes in the summer.

Nah, Odemwingie is finished. He won't play for the club again, he needed to make a public apology today, get his head down, and ignore the negative reaction he'll get from the fans and players and if he did well over time it might die down.

Instead he's carrying it on and there's really no way back for him. The players won't accept him, the fans won't accept him. He seems a bit mentally unstable so I doubt he'd be trusted to play.

I imagine he'll probably end up being loaned out to some Russian club in the next few weeks. Clearly he was tapped up (or else why would he have been so adamant about going to ONLY QPR?) but no doubt that won't be bought up/

I reckon he will play - that is the worst thing about it.

I don't think he would go back to Russia, either - given what happened when he played for Lokomotiv.

To play he would have to at least make a public apology and back down - instead he's out there making unauthorised interviews again today. There's no way he could be trusted to go out on the pitch and do his best, or worse, actively try and sabotage a game.

He'll go to Russia if the moneys good enough. He's going to get an absolutely horrific reception if he ever plays at The Hawthorns again.

The whole deal was a bit bizarre. If QPR were so keen on him, and seemingly they were, why only offer a maximum bid of 3.5m? Zamora who was also 31 they paid 6m rising to 7m last year, clearly the Samba deal shows they're not being prudent this year.
