Transfer Deadline Day

Benayoun is a pretty good stop-gap signing. He's extremely consistent, the sort of experienced bench player they haven't had in recent years.

Ramsey should get the chance to start with Wilshere and Song anyway, they don't really need a starter like Arteta.

Mark Ogden from the Telegraph:

'It looks as though the last person to leave Old Trafford has turned off the lights and put Manchester United's transfer window to bed. As of 7pm, there have been no takers for Darron Gibson or Tomasz Kuszczak, while Newcastle's apparent loan move for Federico Macheda has failed to materialise.

Meanwhile, Wesley Sneijder will join the likes of Patrick Kluivert, Ronaldinho, Marcelo Salas, Miguel Angel Nadal and Alan Shearer (remember him?) as going through an entire summer as a United transfer target, but ending up choosing against a move to Old Trafford.'

I don't think it was Sneijder who was against a move to OT. If anything we rejected his deal.

Yeah, it's true. I could have just as easily picked on Kentucky or South Carolina. I'm sure there are some hotties in Stoke too.

Some massive tits here:

I'd be disappointed if we don't loan out Kiko, he needs PL experience and he's not going to get many games at United.

Sunderland have signed like 8-9 players this summer, and are still so desperate for a new player that they are going after Nicklas Bendtner? I don't get football clubs.

Very disappointed with today. Not just because we haven't signed somebody else, but because players like PIG, Gibson and Diouf looking likely to stay. I've nothing personally against any of these players, but I don't see how much playing time they'll get with us.

Also it would have been good for Macheda to go out on loan to a PL club, but it's failed to happen it seems.

gyan didn't hand in transfer request contrary to what the press had said. a bit of anti-climax

I'd be pissed if I were an Arsenal fan. Very underwealming so far...

Thank God SAF did his shopping early this year... I'd hate to be with any of the other clubs. It would be like waiting for the parents to awaken from drinking all night Christmas Eve, on Christmas day... only to find out they've gotten a couple 20 year old used toys from the 2nd hand store.

My brother's mate runs a Boylesports shop and they've suspended betting on Sneijder to United. But it's pretty clear that nothing's happening so I don't know why.

The Neverending Muppet Story continues: An Inter website article, which was swiftly taken down, stated that Sneijder would not leave for United this summer but would join in January.

Yeah and it has given the new players time to gel over the last couple of months, whereas players coming in today would take more time to gel with their new team.

If it does not happen today then it is never happening again.

When was the last time we signed a player who would be cup tied for the Champions League? I mean if we would sign anyone in january, can't remember Fergie ever done that (cuptied for CL that is)

Well, we just don't know, do we?

WS will only be 27 and-a-half in Jan.

The age is not a problem. If we sign Sneijder, it is because we need his help in the Champions League this season. If we leave him there till Jan, then he is going to be cup tied. So spending 30m on someone who is cup tied seems really stupid and it ain't going to happen.

1935: Very busy at the DW Stadium as Wigan confirm the signing of Chelsea defender Patrick van Aanholt on a season-long loan.

All good points. I just found it strange that the article was scrubbed.
