I'm saying there is no need to make a drama out of his absence imo.

As you mentioned the last 3 games as your counter point to him being an automatic starter. I'll say in the last 10 league games he finished the 90 mins twice.

But this isn't a Mainoo bashing post, just pointing out United can cope without him today. Casemiro and Eriksen can cover his 60-70 mins no problem.
Still relevant though, as that leaves a minimum 20-30 mins (barring any injuries to the few remaining mids) without any of Mainoo, Casemiro or Eriksen. So his absence then creates the issue, who do we turn to when those have to be subbed? And does it mean we have to have both aging CM's on at the same time for an hour or more, which is far from ideal in terms of being outrun in midfield.

His absence will be felt more than it would have been had we still had the likes of Ugarte, Collyer or Amad to use instead. Having to rely on Casemiro and Eriksen, and then just unused academy kids, means it becomes a comparatively bigger loss on top of the others we've lost at the same time. Because he might only be a mixture of Plan A and B, rather than a nailed on Plan A. But we're now down to midfield plans much farther down the alphabet!

A lot of posts are similar to the scousers and arsenal pre-match where folks are predicting us to get beat without a sweat, and we got results from both of them. I expect us to get at least a point today, we are pretty good in the big games under Amorim so far

I’m hoping for that, but worried a 15th place spurs aren’t a big enough game in the players heads for them to be arsed turning up. Here’s hoping though.

Cmon man. You know that they battered us even harder with 11 men in that game, before the red card. It was brutal.
Yeah I do, but there was 45 mins to go when it was 1-0. We played diabolically for 45 mins so our squad isn't suited to a 433? What sort of an evaluation is that

Our season has gone from worst to wake me when it's over. Hope we get something out of this match as we need the points to concentrate on the cups near the end of the season.

Always risky to throw them in at the deep end, but I’m ready to see some kids.

It’s not like we’ve been able to rely on the first team anyhow. Rather than bringing back some second- or third-choice options, I’d be more intrigued to see how young some prospects fare.
It’s risky but risk usually pays off. We’ll never know how they handle it unless they get game time. Also like you said, the first team have been useless so we can only benefit from this as the young lads will be eager to impress and break into the team.

I don't think we have any chance given the injuries. Spurs will run through our midfield like it isn't even there, probably because it mostly isn't even there.
They’ve had a lot more injuries than us to be fair and still missing crucial players.

I've got a feeling one of the kids will start. I kind of agree with Arteta's comments the other day. Start one and see how he fairs. Sub him for another that allows us to rotate the squad to keep everyone in position.

    Kone looks the most likely

If Tottenham score then that is it. Don’t believe Utd have a goal in them at this moment. So much is beyond the club in every sense and I don’t believe INEOS are the people to sort it.

Yeah when you put it that way, it could be the making of one or two youngsters. And if they did make an impression today, could even rekindle some hope for the season. Alright, now I am getting carried away.

Yeah don't blame you, the way I see it they have nothing to lose if any of them get an opportunity

Spurs maintain an exceptionally high defensive line, which presents a prime opportunity for pacey attackers to exploit the space in behind. If Garnacho and Højlund start, they should be looking to time their runs to break through Tottenham’s defense.

Excited to see Big Tommy Rowe get his debut for United today. Cheeky little treat for the travelling fans.

I think that has to be pretty much our only gameplan for goals from open play. I see Zirkzee selected instead in a lot of line ups, and the WB's on their strongest foot side as if we're going to be getting plenty of men in the box for crosses in open play.

But, realistically, with our midfield absentess then I think it's going to be a game where we're up against it and relying on the pace of attackers on the counter attack - which is just Garnacho and Hojlund, so I'd start both for this one.

We have a shit team today. No amad. Slow turtles in midfield... 600m for this crap.

It's only a league game so you might as well watch it.

But try to skip the EL and FA Cup matches as we really could do with winning either of those (especially the EL) and don't need your jinx making us lose! :)

EL games are always too late for me, I don't recall an early kick-off there.

As for FA Cup it depends but I won't be able to miss a game if they play at a reasonable hour for me

People keep saying we have no options, but let’s be real— even when we’ve had a full squad, we haven’t exactly been impressive. If we lose, Amorim might lean on that excuse, but it won’t fool me.

At this stage, results don’t concern me much. What matters is seeing a clear improvement in the team’s performances.

Results are all that matters now. We cannot keep losing.

15th if we lose today. Everton away next before Ipswich. Lose them and we're fecked.

Dig out points however and wherever we can.

Everton will be hostile after last two results

There's a phrase in Spanish that pretty much translates to "hard times are gone now it's time for the worst" pretty much sums up how I'm feeling about the team.

I'm not expecting many minutes for most of them to be honest - I think they'll be bench fillers and we'll mostly see the senior players used, even out of position, rather than many of the youngsters.

We've probably got 13 senior outfield players - Dalot, Mazraoui, Yoro, Lindelof, Maguire, De Ligt, Dorgu, Casemiro, Eriksen, Fernandes, Garnacho, Zirkzee, Hojlund.

I think he'll try to get through most of the game just using mostly those as the starters or subs. Like we did a few times last season when we saw limited subs used in the games when most of the subs were kids.

I'm hoping we'll see some get some minutes, if it's reflective that Amorim trusts them and intends to give them time later in the season as well. But I think some that are solely there to make up the numbers won't just be given 'free' minutes. I think Amorim well adopt the attitude ETH did that the kids have to earn any first team minutes.

Probably Heaven is the most likely to get some minutes, if he's really been signed as an immediate first team squad player. Though it's obviously safer to throw on attacking youngsters rather than risk defenders against PL attacks, so maybe we'll see some of the AM's or Obi getting some minutes late on?

Can't see any of them starting. There's (just) enough senior players there to put out a starting XI of them so I think he'll opt for the experience of them over the raw academy youngsters. Even though, form wise, a lot of those senior players don't exactly fill you with any confidence either!
    You were spot on.

Trust us to have our injury riddled team make the injury riddled Spurs look like 2009-10 Chelsea

Yeah, it's written in the stars how a struggling Spurs and an under pressure Ange will suddenly turn into prime Barca and turn us over.

    Like Thanos, it is inevitable.

The bench is exciting. I take it obi won’t be playing for the U21 tomorrow then if he comes on today?

Struggling to even think of a team for today. The Amad news has massively deflated the mood in a season that has been disastrous. Ugarte being ruled out is a big blow too.
    Reckon we will see:

    Onana
    De Ligt Maguire Mazraoui
    Dalot Bruno Casemiro Dorgu
    Zirkzee Garnacho
    Hojlund
Well.. safe to say no one’s getting the predicted 11 spot on this week. Going to be a surprise to all of us
    I somehow did.

Can see obi coming on a getting the winning goal. What a story that would be.
