Playing Harry who has been far better than most give him credit automatically drops the 3 man defence 20 yards deeper, with not much protection as no Collyer or Ugarte.
Anything at all to back this up?

It’s going to funny listening to Ange whinge about today’s defeat when it’s us who’ve had to put out an injury-hit team.

Might only be by a single goal, and we’ll probably concede possession and chances. But a wins’s a win.

Well, that’s my optimism for today. Reality will sink in after 20 minutes of shit.

Yeah but the argument was let's switch formation to improve our chances today.

We played that different formation last time and got battered(when XI vs XI).

    Formation won't help.

It's a silly evaluation. We didn't get battered because the formation was ill suited to our players. A lot of players in that squad has hit heights or 3rd place in a 433 the season prior. Taking an isolated 45 mins and making it a representative of what suits the squad is just inaccurate.

I dont think we should change formation now, but that's not because I don't think 433 won't work with these players (it would, better than whatever this is). But it's more because our manager has his faith in another system so we might as well see that through now.

De Ligt in midfield is my suggestion. Then can put Cas or Eriksen there beside him

Struggling to even think of a team for today. The Amad news has massively deflated the mood in a season that has been disastrous. Ugarte being ruled out is a big blow too.

    Who in for Mainoo?

Easy, Mainoo isn’t an automatic starter in the Amorim era yet.

Also he is mostly ineffective as the CM or no.10 in the Amorim system too.

So I can’t imagine fans being too worried about who will sit in Kobbie’s seat on the bench.

Don’t do it to yourself. Spurs’ injuries are definitely worse than ours but I think every ounce of positivity has been sucked out of us with the losses of Amad and Mainoo.

They’ve got one fit first choice player from their back four available and we’ll make it difficult to even have a shot on target

Is it “confirmed” that Ugarte and Collyer are unavailable today? I.e. they haven’t travelled with the squad?

I think Zirkzee will be key today. I reckon he’ll start and it’ll then depend on which version shows up. If he’s in the mood to control the ball and hold it up, linking with other players, then we might still do something here. We need to sustain pressure on their defence as often as possible, if it keeps coming straight back at us the we’ll get annihilated.

Errrm so who’s in for him then?

I am not superstitious at all, but since the loss against Brighton, I didn't watch 3 games on the trot (the 2 EL games vs Rangers & FCSB) and the league game vs Fulham due to them being too late for me to watch (as in 4am), we won all three, then I watched the league game vs Palace which we lost, then I didn't watch the cup game vs Leicester which we won because again it was too late for me.

Now, do I skip this game and hope for a win or do I watch us lose it (it starts 12:30AM for me so it's not too late).

We are fecked but in a optimistic way you can look at it as an opportunity to blood in new faces without pressure as we won’t get top5 or go down (that’s only a thing of the press). Whats sad is is that with Amad we would have a better chance to win the el - and that would be the game changer as it would bring a trophy cl football and money. Just hope we can win it somehow

The season prior was 2023-2024 which we got 8th not 3rd and it feels like long time ago, since we have been any good.

Had no interest in watching this but the bench may convince me otherwise.

Okay, and the season before we got 3rd. We also got 2nd twice with Ole and Jose. Although the squad dynamics changed we signed right wingers, left wingers, central midfielders, strikers and full backs. That tends to favour a 433 variation more than a 352.

Well.. safe to say no one’s getting the predicted 11 spot on this week. Going to be a surprise to all of us

Errrm I leave you to worry about who is going to sit on the bench.
He'd started the last three games - and with no Amad, Ugarte or Collyer would have undoubtedly started this one as well.

So not quite sure why you keep describing him as if he's just a non-starting member of the squad?

It's only a league game so you might as well watch it.

But try to skip the EL and FA Cup matches as we really could do with winning either of those (especially the EL) and don't need your jinx making us lose! :)

This time I don't think it matters.

Need legs against Spurs. We go with Eriksen and Casemiro in midfield and we’ll get killed.

Sounds daft, but I’d rather Yoro alongside one of those In midfield!
Wasn't Lindelov occasionally the emergency midfielder, is he available? Personally I'd go for one of the kids but big risk.

I've got a feeling one of the kids will start. I kind of agree with Arteta's comments the other day. Start one and see how he fairs. Sub him for another that allows us to rotate the squad to keep everyone in position.

Always risky to throw them in at the deep end, but I’m ready to see some kids.

It’s not like we’ve been able to rely on the first team anyhow. Rather than bringing back some second- or third-choice options, I’d be more intrigued to see how young some prospects fare.

De Ligt in midfield is my suggestion. Then can put Cas or Eriksen there beside him
With the greatest respect, that’s a horrendous suggestion. De Ligt has absolutely nothing that suggests he could work well in midfield.

I'd personally much rather just put Lindelof at centre back and play Mazraoui in midfield of it came to starting Lindelof.

I have half a mind ignoring everyone who is talking about the game as if we lost already. You all will be moaning on here after if we lose, draw, or win unconvincingly. What’s the point of pre-moaning?

It’s fecking nonstop misery. We might get to see some of the younger players who a lot of us have been excited about, and Spurs are no prime Brazil. Grow a pair and wait for the game to play out.

I'm saying there is no need to make a drama out of his absence imo.

As you mentioned the last 3 games as your counter point to him being an automatic starter. I'll say in the last 10 league games he finished the 90 mins twice.

But this isn't a Mainoo bashing post, just pointing out United can cope without him today. Casemiro and Eriksen can cover his 60-70 mins no problem.

I don't get that either. It's a fecking game of footy. It plays no impact on your actual life if we win or lose. Some people just like to moan, but I suppose a lot of us are British

I'm not expecting many minutes for most of them to be honest - I think they'll be bench fillers and we'll mostly see the senior players used, even out of position, rather than many of the youngsters.

We've probably got 13 senior outfield players - Dalot, Mazraoui, Yoro, Lindelof, Maguire, De Ligt, Dorgu, Casemiro, Eriksen, Fernandes, Garnacho, Zirkzee, Hojlund.

I think he'll try to get through most of the game just using mostly those as the starters or subs. Like we did a few times last season when we saw limited subs used in the games when most of the subs were kids.

I'm hoping we'll see some get some minutes, if it's reflective that Amorim trusts them and intends to give them time later in the season as well. But I think some that are solely there to make up the numbers won't just be given 'free' minutes. I think Amorim well adopt the attitude ETH did that the kids have to earn any first team minutes.

Probably Heaven is the most likely to get some minutes, if he's really been signed as an immediate first team squad player. Though it's obviously safer to throw on attacking youngsters rather than risk defenders against PL attacks, so maybe we'll see some of the AM's or Obi getting some minutes late on?

Can't see any of them starting. There's (just) enough senior players there to put out a starting XI of them so I think he'll opt for the experience of them over the raw academy youngsters. Even though, form wise, a lot of those senior players don't exactly fill you with any confidence either!
