Television Top Gear

They need to stop with the over the top, orchestrated segments. The old show was at its best just doing simple little challenges and having down to earth banter between the three hosts. This series seemed like they were just trying to stuff a load of big ideas into it as possible.
Going to take time for them to get into that friendly banter mode as they've only just started working together. Took Clarkson, Hammond and May about 3-4 seasons before they fell into it naturally.

YAAAAAAYYY he quit!! There's still hope!!! :D

This season has clearly shown that the old format doesn't work without the old gang. I'm also struggling to understand the point of Sabine and Jordan.. None of them should be a tv presenter imo, and why have hosts that are there just some of the time?

Harris would do a good James May which is fine if they want a serious motoring show.

I don't think they do though and Harris and Rory Reid will both struggle to be Comedians if they're asked to be.

True, Harris is one of the absolute best drivers/reviewers out there but let him do that without being forced to be funny.

The reason the old show was so successful was because of the presenters, simple as that. Although the show went south the last couple of seasons it still worked because they had JC, Hammond and May doing what they've always done.
What they need to do more than anything now is to find the right format (which would have to be something completely new) for this group of people, whoever they hang on to/bring in. I would love if they got rid of Sabine and Jordan and then went with a more serious approach instead of fooling about so much.

I wouldn't describe the chemistry or humour as natural. The reason it was still watchable even though it was trash was that it was familiar. That takes a season or two.

I quite liked this season possibly more so than Clarksons last one. What they need is someone like Evans who can do the chatting but is actually likeable to a wider audience.

Evans is like one of those friends who was always great fun on nights out but now you've grown up he's not acclimatised and is actually quite annoying. TFI Friday suits him perfectly as it's a night out atmosphere.

he is basicly telling them to move on, its a dead duck.
Which I suppose it what we have been saying on here.
Nah didn't come across that way. Came across more as move on without him.

Just caught up with the new episode. Hope a harries gets a bigger role.

Seems that TFI Friday as been axed to. Problem with Evans is that he is a very difficult person to get on with .From Big Breakfast to Top Gear he as been a control freak . No wonder staff rejoice when he leaves.

I though Le Blanc was pretty crap until the last episode, where he was decent, not as bad as Evans but pretty wooden.

Bigger role for the two younger fellas, ditch the german lady and eddie jordan and it might be a decent season.

I don't get the hype over the other guys, yes they're decent but nothing special for a tv show, as for Sabine, they should use her skills more instead of stupid shit, why not try to get her break some records for instance, she's a fantastic driver and her skills are just going to waste.

If anyone plays any driving games, she makes this look like one

It helps that she knows the track better than most of the drivers there. You can tell the way she drives and brakes late. I suspect its a pro-am race.

I actually want this to give Grand Tour a run for its money, competition can only be good for the viewers.

The Grand Tour is starting to get disappointing. The same old jokes and stupid stunts.

Chris Evans was one of the biggest blunders done by the BBC. Hopefully the new crew will have better dynamics. It feels fresher at least.

Already looks 10x better without Evans, and that's the trailer.

Looks much better. Chris Harris is really good on his own youtube channel so glad to see him get a main role here.

"The only good bits were the bits without Chris Evans. A bit like life really."

 I forget who said that, but it summed up the first series for me. Le Blanc was great, and the trailer for the new series looks decent. Even if it's just passable it'll at least mark the return of some dignity.

The Grand Tour was a bit crap. A few good segments amidst mostly utter shite.

I thought the last few episodes of Top Gear were actually really good, mainly because they focused way less on Evans and had more of Reed, Harris and Le Blanc, so I think this could be promising.

More specials and less studio nonsense would work better. The Namibia special was good

Which is what made Top Gear so shite for the last few years.

The Grand tour did well in making people remember this.

I didn't hate Evans as much as others but the less he was in it the better. The main issue was his hyperactiveness suits TFI Friday much better than Top Gear interviews.

Not sure Matt le Blanc will be able to carry the show on his own, found him to be quite poor and wooden. Would have been interesting to see how the first series would have worked out if Evans and Le Blancs roles were reversed.

I still haven't watched the last few eps of Grand Tour after Namibia special which itself was ok. Don't know if it gets better but I've not felt the need to go back.

I thought Le Blanc was very good in the clips and driving but yeah when it came to the presenting part in studio with Even he wasn't great. By looks of the trailer they're going back to the 3 man presenting team while all competing against each other in tasks.

It wasn't. Worst special they ever made. And that's counting India...

Worst is probably pushing it, but theres no doubt that it was one of the weaker ones. An hour of driving up and down the same stretch of beach and a bit of forced banter complete with a bizarre ending.

Probably the best TGT episode mind, but thats a reflection of how badly it failed to live up to expectations.

Hope it's good, trailer seems promising at least. Annoyingly it seems Eddie Jordan is still involved though.

Agreed. Compared to Bolivia, Vietnam, Botswana etc, it was dreadful.

The problem is that the Grand Tour is neither one thing or the other. The focus on cars has diminished, while the "entertainment" sections are poor. Top Gear had the balance perfect, so that the "entertainment" worked brilliantly. On the new show, it outweighs everything else.

And it doesn't work.

It's such heavily scripted nonsense and let's be honest, they're not actors. They are, by trade, journalists.

The Edge of Tomorrow rip off, the bit in Namibia where they were looking for elephant hunters...fecking abysmal.

The new Top Gear was riddled with problems and the new series might be more of the same but I found it more enjoyable and less obnoxious (despite that ginger twat) than the Grand Tour.

TGT has become the Seinfeld of Car shows. A show about nothing.

The best part of TGT is the photography/camera works. Beautifully done. It makes the last Top Gear series (Ginger version) look like 5th Gear.
