Television Top Gear

Hmm. A bit of an improvement I suppose.

I always thought they should have used something reasonably decent for that segment and the last few cars where anything but.

Nowt wrong with Kias mate.Better built than much of the tripe on the road today.

except it's 100 miles from Madrid. even 50 miles out is pushing it.
yeah I know there's a train. sounds like someone got some cheap land and believed their own BS.

Beauvais in Paris is 75kms away from Charles DeGaulle and even further from the city center and it has no rail line that I know of but a bus that takes about two hours to get into the city. That bullet train was supposed to take you to Madrid in half an hour iirc. Not as much of a stupid idea as it seems had it been managed right and possibly built to a lower spec and budget. Beauvais is no more than a strip of tarmac and a shed so it costs feck all to run.

 StuCol owns the old reasonably priced car! What a norman!

Beauvais is a dump with a nice cathedral and is about 50 miles from Paris, so it's doable.

That stupid airport in Spain is over 200 km away from Madrid. wtf were they thinking?

Its incredible isn't it? I can't have any sympathy with Spain for being skint having pissed that sort of money away.

Liked this third episode, all three cars were beauties, and the location was excellent, but it's ridiculous how easy you can destroy supercar. One drag race on old road, and the car looks like it was on rally Dakar(at least it is with Mclaren and Ferrari).

It's not the people of Spain's fault that their Politicians went through a phase of madness and corruptness any more than it's the people of Britian's fault that their banks were in trouble and not being regulated properly.

Tonight's was the best of the season so far, The Transit Fan was excellent.
Made even better by Clarkson calling Rooney a potato headed baffon, which is a bit pot calling kettle black , but still funny.

Yeah that Hover Van was a beast and I enjoyed the segment on the electric Mercedes. Hugh Jackman is an insufferable cnut though.

fecking hell some coin gets thrown at this series. Wouldn't surprise me at all if the actual cost for the van was 250k by the end including engineering and what ever else.

Good thing Top Gear is completely self funded, I'm sure many people would be throwing a fit if it was license fee paid.

Absolutely.

Interestingly, not only is it the programme which spends the biggest portion of the BBC's budget, it's also the BBC's biggest earner - primarily because they sell the programme to broadcasters across the world, and there's also the road show thing which they do.

One of my favourite top gears is one of the really old ones where they were complaining they didn't have any money left so they were doing reviews of budget cars and stuff but Clarkson kept accidently testing those cars on 3 different continents.

I caught a bit of this on Sunday. Oh how I laughed when they kept driving that hovervan into the river bank. Then, it suddenly became easy to control, until they went to park it and then another hilarious scene when they ruined the pretend pub lunch because Clarkson forgot how to control it again. That was when I turned it off.

Those segments are painful to watch. I wish they'd just review nice cars all the time.

It wasn't intentional, he did it on purpose to get rid of the remaining budget so James May had none left and then his segment involved him in a small town in England or something.

Anyone know a way to watch this on iPlayer outside of the UK which actually works?

I used to use Hola Unblocker, which was an extension for Chrome, but it has stopped supporting iPlayer, and I've also tried Stealth extension for Firefox, which just didn't work at all. I'm using a MacBook, so if anyone knows of any apps or settings I can fiddle with so I can watch Top Gear I'd appreciate it!

When I get home I'll pm you a great link for watching top gear online outside of the UK.

It's the BBCs biggest earner - it gets sold to that many countries, then there's the magazine, DVDs etc. It might be old, tired, predictable and generally just lame, but it's a golden goose. It won't be going anywhere soon.

It is very important to know the glove box still works in Australia!

I thought the leccy Merc was pretty sweet and that's what the show should focus on.

The big gripe is how scripted and false all their adventures are. That hover thing could have been cool if they went at it properly instead of going for the normal slapstick approach.

The way they rate cars, fast>good, slow>shit

Speed can't be the only one main parameter

That's simply not true. They almost always comment on the handling of a car, as well as the comfort of the ride, and regularly prefer a less powerful car when comparing two or three different vehicles together.

In the last episode for example in the section in Spain, they had the Ferrari, the Audi and the McLaren where the McLaren is comfortably the fastest car - however at the end, they concluded that they'd all buy the Ferrari, and that the Audi was the most 'practical'.
