Top 4 race / race abandoned (or maybe not) / Leicester & Chelsea in the process of bottling it

Think we screwed ourselves with the late goals conceded against Newcastle and Leeds.

Think Liverpool are still most likely to get in..
If they get at least a point against United.. they'll win the rest of their games..

Leicester look done .. dont really expect them to get much.. a point at most..
Even if Liverpool lose against us, they might still get in because I genuinely dont think Leicester can get anything against the first XI of any good side right now.

How meaningful is it for you to beat Liverpool in the context of your season so far? Leaving bitter rivalry aside as you have bigger fish to fry. Maybe you can educate me.
Did you really ask how meaningful is to beat Liverpool?

I'm disappointed you haven't used victims in this post. You must be bursting, go on let it out.

Yeah imagine fecking up all season conceding late goals for lols and then blaming ManUtd for fielding weaker team when they had 3 games in 5 days.

We really don't deserve to be in the CL next is my personal opinion. If it wasn't for the money (that we badly need) I wouldn't be so invested right now.

Ole picked the right team tonight and gave it a good go from what I'm reading of the match. Problem is it's a bugger for momentum, despite the examples people are giving above (Roma, etc).

There is a difference between fielding 3-4 fringe players and 9 though. Most of these im sure was happy to just get picked, and considering the game had little importance to it, i dont think its going to cause a big upheaval in the squad.

The thing youre describing comes along if squad morale is low and/or if several key players are in bad form. This might have ruffled the feathers of Cavani and Bruno though, who hate losing, but other than that i dont see how this game will have any bearing on our form

I don't see why people are sure Liverpool will win their last three games. I'd be surprised, if they do then fair enough, they may very well steal CL football.

If Liverpool lose against us Leicester will only need a point to get top 4
Don't see it coming against Chelsea but reckon they're more than capable of drawing to an average Spurs side that are practically managerless

It doesn't sit right with me how the team fielded last night has gotten this much lack of respect. Are they not pros ? Where does it say in the PL rule that the manager cannot rest his players ? All this to deflect from Liverpool's terrible run of results at home. What would they have done if the roles were reversed ?

Considering Liverpool to some would still be looked at as potential title contenders at the start of next season - does dropping them off CL football help us a bit next season as potential title contenders ourselves?

I mean the other title contenders are arguably in a CL Final playing each other at the end of the month.

It would also mean that if Chelsea beat Arsenal they have got top 4. West Ham arent going to beat them on goal difference.

So Chelsea will have nothing to play for v Leciester with a CL final coming up.

Oh, you only meant meaningless from United's point of view? I thought you were talking about the game overall and that you were trying to downplay its importance to Liverpool.

I wouldn't say a competitive fixture against Liverpool was ever meaningless, but I now see your point... United do have bigger fish to fry.

If you need to rely on your biggest rivals to do you a favour in May then you've failed to do your own job during the rest of the season. There's really no point getting upset about Utd not playing their strongest XI in a congested fixture period with the EL final still coming up. I'd be really amused if we did the same and then lost against a team they needed us to win against. There have been enough turning points in the season where we have fecked up ourselves and thrown away points against bad teams by just playing lethargic football and looking like we didn't care at all.

The top four race is over, we won't be able to overtake Leicester or Chelsea even if we win all of our remaining games. It sucks but it is what it is.

They have Spurs though. Id rather have Spurs than Burnley who are playing some fantasric stuff at the minute.
Spurs are shit. Genuinely shit.

I dont think its over. Liverpool are capable of winning 4/4 games which takes them to 69 points. To match that Chelsea need 5 points with games vs Arsenal, Leicester and Villa. Leicester should get 3 points with games vs Spurs and Chelsea.

If you lose vs us, then it's 99% over.

We really aren't, especially when one is away at Old Trafford. We haven't won 4 games in a row all season in the league, we've only managed to win 3 in a row twice all season with one of them being the first 3 games of the season.

Mathematically it's still possible and there are enough scenarios in which it could happen but I guess I've already conceded that it won't happen by now. Much better than getting your hopes up over something that 99% certainly won't happen.

If they play in the EL? Yes.

It gives them less pull in the market this summer and Thursday night football is usually terrible for league form, espeically if you have to travel long distances for away games

I hope this happens and Chelsea make 10 changes

I think Klopp would sack it off at the earliest opportunity, like he does with the domestic cups

I love that description!

Just for fun, taking out the top 15 appearance makers would leave us with this team...

Kepa

Rudiger Silva Christensen
Livermento Emerson

Gimour Bate

Anjorin Giroud Alonso

Its back on. Chelsea plays Leicester next, so Liverpool with 4 wins can make top 4.

3rd. Leicester City (GP 36, Pts 66, GD +21) - max points 72
18th May: Chelsea (a)
23rd May: Tottenham Hotspur (h)

4th. Chelsea (GP 36, Pts 64, GD +22) - max points 70
18th May: Leicester City (h)
23rd May: Aston Villa (a)

5th. West Ham United (GP 35, Pts 58, GD +10) - max points 67
15th May: Brighton & Hove Albion (a)
19th May: West Bromwich Albion (a)
23rd May: Southampton (h)

6th. Liverpool (GP 34, Pts 57, GD +18) - max points 69
13th May: Manchester United (a)
16th May: West Bromwich Albion (a)
19th May: Burnley (a)
23rd May: Crystal Palace (h)

7th. Tottenham Hotspur (GP 35, Pts 56, GD +20) - max points 65
16th May: Wolverhampton Wanderers (h)
19th May: Aston Villa (h)
23rd May: Leicester City (a)

8th. Everton (GP 34, Pts 55, GD +4) - max points 67
13th May: Aston Villa (a)
16th May: Sheffield United (h)
19th May: Wolverhampton Wanderers (h)
23rd May: Manchester City (a)

Now, I wouldn't be surprised if Leicester City and Liverpool finished in the top four, and Chelsea win the Champions League meaning there'd be five English clubs in the Champions League next season.

Leicester City and Chelsea can't both finish on max points due to them facing each other, so if Liverpool win all their games they will be in the top four.

If Liverpool win their last 4 games, with how shit the rest of the chasing pack is, they deserve top 4. Everyone is gifting it to them, fair play to the twats if they can actually do what the rest can't and be consistent.

if Liverpool beat us, there’s no excuse for them not qualifying. Piss easy run in.

So if i have worked this out right. Should lpool lose tomorrow then top 4 is more or less sorted. Unless Leicester or ourselves lose both remaining games?

They lose tomorrow, they still have 3 more games to get 66 points. You are on 64 right now.

By the time Chelsea and Leicester City play each other in the league, Liverpool could be one point behind Chelsea.

If Liverpool lose tomorrow, Leicester City only need one more point whereas you need three more points to secure it.

Chelsea losing means we need 3 more points for 2nd place mathematically secured. I know we all expect us to finish second anyway but it' still a good thing for us, even 3 draws will do it now. Though with the games Leicester have left it's already secured probably.

We have Fulham at home after Liverpool. Points in the bank

If Liverpool beat us I’d fancy momentum to carry them through to 4th.

Would love West Ham to win their next 3 and get it.
