Top 4 Race 19/20 | duffer: "We [Chelsea] are getting 3rd. Despite what the lunatics in here think, Man United are not all that."

What are you talking about of course it isn’t solely our own performances? If Chelsea win all 6 then they finish above us.

For it to be in our own hands it literally means that no matter what others do we qualify.

I get your point, and I know I’m being a pedant.

It's in our own hands to finish above Leicester. We may need to catch up on some goals but I think they'll drop out anyway with thier fixtures.

Can you really see them being Wolves & Liverpool? Personally I can see them losing one of those games.

Regardless I understand where you are coming from.

Yes but if it goes down to GD it means that they have won 5/6 or 4/5 or whatever it is to match our points tally, therefore GD still most likely won’t be achievable.
9 GD is nothing consider the gap we have close so far. Also in this case we are assuming we beat Leicester so whater ever score is doubled. Beat them by 2 and it closes the gap by 4.

So for me it's on our hands. Likely won't matter as I'd say we both drop more points. Question is who fecks up more.

Chelsea and Leicester have it in their hands. We don't. We still need them to lose games for it to be "in our hands".
How don't people get this...

The only thing we have in our hands is winning all our games.
Oue HOPE is that they will drop points, then it will be in our hands to stay winning till the end.
Its in our hands to set out and outscore Leicester. How is it not?

Will agree to disagree, let’s hope we can do it!

We usually shit in our pants once the rest slip up. Please for once don't bottle it you feckers.

A man can dream. :drool::nervous::devil:
Can swap Man City for West Ham and it's still on course.
For LCFC, even better than I predicted. 1 point instead of 2.
Its on.
We are still on course.
Get in.

Chelsea have to play the likes of:

Sheffield United, Watford (who will be fighting for survival, and I still rate Pearson) and Liverpool, who might opt for a semi-strong team if Salah/Mane want golden boot or if the team want a record tally. Then they end the league versus Wolves.

Leicester are even worse on their run in they face:

Arsenal Sheffield United, Spurs and then finish up versus Manchester United.

It may well be the teams in bold replace the Chelsea and Leicester by the seasons close.
I didn’t know Wolves were playing Chelsea to end the season. That matchday could be epic, though I’d rather take the drama out of it.

Add me to that list of people who knew Chelsea would drop points and weren't going to go unbeaten. That defense of theirs has always been poor and people were quick to overrate them because they somehow managed to pull off a surprising win against a City team that has a relegation level defense.
Definitely. Its not just their defense but they also struggle against lowblocks. Without willian they lack that penetrative edge. Pulisic is good but he isn't a deadball specialist/winger like willian. If willian was injured earlier in the season they would be neck and neck with arsenal. Strange that he is a free agent this summer.

A helpful night obviously, but one game at a time. We can still finish 6th or worse and fortunes can change quickly.

Our match against Crystal Palace will be on July 16......the Premier League couldn't yet announce the matchdays 36+37 because of the FA-Cup quarter-finals.

Even if true we have Soton on the Monday and West Ham on the Saturday. However we squeeze in Palace between that is going to be an issue.

Its playing Soton on the Monday thats the problem

wE've replaced him with Ziyech.

We have Southampton on the Monday, followed by the Palace game which will most likely be played on Thursday as we have Chelsea in the Cup on Sunday. This also means the West Ham game will have to be rescheduled for midweek (Wednesday/Thursday) before the league season ender at Leicester on the Sunday.

There is bond to be points dropped this weekend by either us , Leicester or Chelsea.
Bournemouth, Watford fighting for their premier league survival. Nothing is given

I also fancy palace to get something from Leicester

However I do think we will get all 3 points

Oh I completely agree they won’t, however it’s not about whether I think they will, it’s in their hands to do so.

I take your point too.

Thank you! Jesus Christ people don’t understand that saying. I feel like I’m going mad.

It doesn't matter to us what Chelsea does, if we win all our games, including the last against Leicester, we'll have the same point as Leicester. They currently have a 9 better goal difference, but if we say field and all out attack and beat them by 3 goals that difference is down to 3, so we just need to score 4 more than them in the other 5 games, that on paper looks easier for us.

So yeah, it is in our hands now to finish this.

Its in our hands to set out and outscore Leicester. How is it not?
"In our hands" definition: "Under one's control or influence; in one's possession."
Outscore and have a better GD and win all our games. But if Leicester win all there games, which is NOT, I repeat, not, in our control, and it matters not if we win all our games or have a better GD.

Now, we know that LCFC are Shite for form and will drop points, but that's assuming we won't. All we have in our hands is our own point tally, it's in Leicesters hands since they have 3 points advantage over us. When they feck it up by losing enough matches and we have more points than then, then it is totally..."in our hands."

If you don't understand the phrase in our hands after that, then it's fine, carry on.

Fine margins. We can't afford to drop any points but odds are we will at some point. I just hope the likes of Leicester, Wolves and Chelsea drop more points than we do
Yes, realistically we're gonna drop points as well. We really need to get 4 big wins IMO, including one on the last day.

Leicester and Chelsea will be nervous having us breathing down their necks, they’ll be dropping a few more points between now and the end.

It most definitely IS in our hands now! Not sure how people aren’t gathering that! If we win all our games up to Leicester then we will know how many goals we need to beat them by to take their place on the last day! The very definition of being in our hands’

It’s all irrelevant as Leicester will lose to Tottenham and Arsenal too and we’ll cruise into third spot i reckon! Don’t be surprised to see Wolves nick Chelsea’s spot on the last day too!

Uhm, wow. For the last time, the team that has more points than us is the definition of "having it in their own hands".
Its not about us winning all, or whatever else. It's about the phrase, in our hands.
They too can say, it's in their hands, all they have to do win all their games, or make sure they not on level points come last day, and they don't lose their spot ahead of us...

We could really do with Sheff U finding some form - they play Tottenham, Wolves, Leicester and Chelsea! C'mon the Blades!

Wolves will be thinking the same thing....:nervous:

Agreed. There's no way we're winning all of our remaining league fixtures, but neither will Leicester, Chelsea or Wolves.
If we do somehow manage to win out and we grab 3rd (cos you know the other 3 are going to drop points) then I'll chew on my hat. ;)

Win all our home games and Leicester away and I think we’ll get fourth. Win all but one (with a draw or loss) and we will finish third.

Regardless, at this point in time we are comfortably the third best team in the league

OMG

I've got United finishing fourth, being overly harsh on us and generous to our rivals.

1 Liverpool 102
2 Manchester City 84
3 Chelsea 67
4 Manchester United 66
5 Leicester City 63
6 Tottenham Hotspur 63
7 Wolverhampton Wanderers 63
8 Arsenal 57

11 Sheffield United 49
12 Newcastle United 49

15 West Ham United 39
16 Brighton & Hove Albion 36
17 Watford 31
18 Aston Villa 27
19 AFC Bournemouth 27
20 Norwich City 25

Literally this, the mental gymnastics in this thread is staggering.

I’m loving the positivity, and I think we will get top 4 now but to say it’s in our hands is factually wrong.

It goes to show how difficult it is to judge team's run ins . City was always an easier match for Chelsea as they had nothing to play for and were focused on the cup game against Newcastle .

However West Ham are scrapping for their lives and that proved decisive .

People think United have an easier run in because they are playing teams fighting relegation are being foolish .

It is always harder playing teams that have so much to play for none of these games against the bottom teams will be easy

Oh feck, Clearly it's not the last time.
But I will paste what I just said:

The team that has more points than us is the definition of "having it in their own hands".
Its not about us winning all, or whatever else. It's about the phrase, in our hands.
They too can say, it's in their hands, because literally ALL they have to do win all their games too like we so bravely and optimistically think will happen for us, but they cant, or make sure they not on level points come last day, and they don't lose their spot ahead of us.

So in closing. The only thing that's in our hands, is winning all our games.
But we are STILL dependent on Leicester and Chelsea losing in our for it to be fully in our hands....

Make sense...i hope so.

It's close enough. If you win all your games you'll get top 4. There's no way Chelsea and Leicester will win all their games as well.
