Tony Adams appointed coach of Granada

I misread this news as Adams becoming coach of the Grenada national team which seemed random but for him to be put in charge of a team in La Liga is just insane.

Terrible manager and a very strange man.

When I read it I assumed Grenada as well. Was wondering why it was on BBC news.

Are people aware that he has been involved behind the scenes with them for the last few months? I imagine he speaks Spanish, knows the club now and has good links with the owner. It's a perfectly logical appointment for the last 7/8 games.

I'd completely forgotten he was even trying to be a manager. Insane appointment.

Just looked at their squad, even now Pozzo has gone they're still not shy of loaning a player or twelve are they?!

Doesn't matter who they appoint tbf. They are going down anyways. They are 7 points behind Leganés and have the worst calendar with games against Celta de Vigo, Sevilla, Real Sociedad and Real Madrid in the last match. They are doomed.

Yes, it's not a random appointment.

He's been working for their owner for a while - and more specifically at Granada since before Christmas, apparently tasked with restructuring the club.

What he said seemed realistic enough - big job ahead, one step back, two forward, that sort of thing. Long term they want to become an established mid-table club with a good academy.

Whether he's the man to get them there is another matter, but he doesn't come across as particularly crazy - plus the current gig could easily just be the most practical interim solution. For all we know he's meant to step down at the end of the season and go back to being a director type in charge of said restructuring job.

I hope his Spanish is better than Moyes.

Wait until they keep Andy P out of the side.

Granada currently have 19 different nationalities in their squad (Granada have a squad of 25).

British bulldog spirit. Good move Adams.

This is going to be a managerial appointment for the ages. Young Granada fans will be telling their grandchildren about this.

He's gone for the Mike Bassett approach in his first press conference, good start from the big man. Go kick some ass Tony lad, drop Andy Pereira and get Reo Coker on that pitch ASAP. Hopefully he'll get Marlon Harewood as the big man up top and Jermaine Pennant once he's found his car he forgot he had in Zaragoza.
