Tom Ince

We're going to be buying some young wingers over the next couple years you have to imagine, with Nani being the youngest of our current lot at 25.

Is it just English wingers you seem to not rate at all Jimy? What about them exotic Welsh ones?

They seem to be slightly better don't they. I guess the two that we are talking about are more cultured with their technique than any of the current crop of English wingers.

I can only think of Barnes and Beckham as the exceptional English wingers in my life time, though Becks was always essentially a CM playing out of position.

Problem is Hetic. English academies have primarily been selecting wingers with the raw physical attribute of pace or failing that if they have one good foot, sod the actual important stuff of having an all round skill set. That is why you have: Walcott, Lennon, Sinclair, Downing, Johnson and Young as your premier English wingers of the day. I am sure that you will agree that all those players are percentage players 'give him the ball and he will beat his marker, and one time in ten he will hit his man with the cross'. I am sure that you will also agree that all those players are incredibly frustrating too.

No, why would I say that when it conflicts with the point I am making? Stop trying to assume hypotheticals to use against me. I didn't say buy him because we have injuries, I said it's a clear advantage of getting young wingers, especially when the three you have, suffer from regular injuries, and aren't young anymore.

You think he needs games at this stage of his career, but you haven't seen him play?

I unerstand your point, but disagree. If it comes down to a choice between a winger or a CM, then yeah, I'd agree and say priotise. However, it won't. I can't see us buying Ince, or any other young winger, at the expense of a midfielder. It won't be "oh it's either him or him". If we are to get a CM in say summer, it would come with or without Ince. Ince or another winger would have no impact on that. Unless you think the total we have to spend on a CM, is £6 million.

Left-footed.

Seen him use his right but not sure how good it is overall. He played a lot as an inverted right-winger.

He's left footed, but he can play on the right and cut inside.

Thank You guys. I appreciate it.

I have never seen him play but he gets points from me for being left-footed. God knows we can do with a left-footed winger.

I also don't mind players running in a line as long as they have enough pace and guile to get past their man and put in a decent cross.

It sounds like an ignorant point to make, but it's hard to write it off. I wasn't being sarcastic with my last post either. My memory of English wingers will be poor, so really I'm going by the here and now, but there really does seem to be something distinctly lacking in that area for England.

They suck! They play until they grow old, and ultimately they will lose their pace. Shouldn't be bothered with them!

Can anyone tell me what this Ince guy's strenghts are? Is it pace, crossing, agility? Fast like Walcott and Lennon?

how about a midfielder? we are not short of fecking wingers at all.

Whats the point in buying a winger when its clear to all that we need to address the midfield with any money we may have.

yeah lets keep buying kids with potential for " next year" while we continue getting shit on week in week out by teams with half decent midfielders.

and since when is Tom fecking Ince a TOP english talent?

He was released by Liverpool and has had a few good weeks with a championship side and now he is a TOP talent. Right so.

You don't watch the Championship then? Guys been awesome for a while. And he's getting better and better, 6 in 6 this season too.

He's not as direct as those two, those two kick and run, Ince has a lot more. He's a lefty but he plays a lot on the right, cuts in more than bomb down the flank. Really good finisher and very comfortable on the ball unlike the generic wingers that have been going around for years (Lennon/Walcott)

I'll be really pleased if we get him in tbh.

He's looked great whenever I've seen him. It would be a huge step up, but it's not beyond the realms of possibility. It would make sense to have a fourth out-and-out winger in the squad.

We've been short a left sided winger ever since Park left. Can't be playing Giggs there anymore.

He'd be happy enough sitting on the bench too I assume.

Assuming that Nani is staying of course.

He's been absolutely class any time i've seen for Blackpool. feck knows why Liverpool didn't keep him.

he wouldn't be playing football there. he left because of that. may very well still be battling for a spot to this day if he had stayed.

Hes much more of a david silva / nasri type winger than a walcott / valencia.

Very good short touch dribbler rather than a kick and run type guy.

I vaguely remember him talking about sharing a room with Giggsy when Ryan stayed at theirs while moving house in the mid-90s. Would make quite a story if he ends up replacing him.

Would love to see him become a star here, simply because he's a former Liverpool player who they let go for a very little.

He's a winger so I guess Fergie would be interested.

I must admit my first thought also was along those lines

We've got some bellends playing for us right now and we've had them in the past.As long as they deliver on the pitch that's all that should concern us

Tom Ince was really good for Liverpool's academy every time they played us - I think it was the 3-1 game away when Norwood scored a delightful chip 3 or so years ago when I first noticed him. He was head and shoulders above the other Liverpool-players that day

We need a young winger. We don't have any. We only have 3 wingers and they're all older than 25.

I guess you don't rate Brady? Maybe Larnell Cole could be considered a winger, possibly Lingard (although they would probably see themselves as attacking central midfielders)

Very pleased if this happens. He is an exciting prospect who has a wand of a left foot and a very good footballing education thus far.

An English winger. English winger. Frakking hell. What a waste of money.

I haven't seen him playing so I am just taking the piss.

So getting him for £6mill and loaning him out is a worse option then letting him develop at Blackpool and then pay an inflated transfer fee which could included other rivals bidding.

Sound logic.

He said get a deal in place now. In other words arrange the fee etc and then take up the option in a few years.

Being from Blackpool I can give a decent opinion on him.

As someone said he is not a touch line winger, but prefers to cut inside and make things happen. He is very assured on the ball and has a nice bag of tricks. Likes his step overs etc. can score, create and beat his man. The best of a Blackpool side that has a great bunch of players.

I clicked only on one video and it gives me an impression that he's cack with the ball and needs time to do what he wants which he won't get in the Premier League. Can't be bothered clicking another

He does look very far away from the required level in that Hull video, I certainly wouldn't pay £6 mill for that. And if he's the English Messi I assume Joshua King is the Norwegian Messi.

I know one single youtube video isn't the best source material, and that people on here who's actually seen him regularly are more qualified than my opinion based on those three posted here.

Honestly, you lot are looking at a Liverpool reject? Admittedly he had some good games in the academy/reserves but he had more than his fair share of bad ones. Any attempt at promoting him to first team saw spectacular failure (think Nemeth, El Zhar). A bit lacking in game intelligence. Better defenders knew he would regularly cut inside and crowded him out. He was very reluctant to get to the bye-line.

The reason we eventually let him go was the baggage (yes his dad) indirectly pushing for him to be in the first team. His head got too big and we got rid. Ferguson could work on him but with his dad around it would be time-consuming, specially considering you have other areas for your manager to be concentrating on.

Edit: Nate Dogg - no he can't play central midfield by any stretch of the imagination.

Our other Liverpool reject didn't do too bad on his debut last week, so I'm not bothered by that part.

Richardson was on United in Press yesterday talking about this story - he claims it's from a reliable source at Blackpool, and expects it to happen in January if Blackpool are out of the promotion race in the Championship, otherwise it'll be the summer. Of course you'd expect him to back his own story, but he didn't seem to be making it up, though a more likely explanation (other than the obvious that there is truth in this) would be that this source at Blackpool is trying to generate interest in the player for maybe a bidding war or something.
