Hopefully it won't take him to long to find his form. I know everyone says we shouldn't be overly reliant on the lad but when he was playing earlier this season we all forgot about the midfield problem. I love this lad, he's an incredible player. I'm also looking forward to seing him and Wilshire playing for England. I'm still incredibly pissed at Davies for taking this lad off the field from us for the last 5 months.

Not everyone did.The flow of the play was very good with Tom in the side but it left open to many counter attacks.

I actually think Fergie won't buy a CM this summer either.

If Cleverley can prove his early season form was just not a blast, with Scholes back with Pogba lurking around, Fergie just might drive the Caf's transfer Ihni binni dimi diniwiny anitaime crazy again.

Who can he actually buy? I can't think of anybody. Not that I know anything outside of Premier League.

Indeed, but that was mainly down to Anderson. You'd expect him to be the more defensive of the two and he wasn't. I expect things to be much better if you put Cleverley alongside Carrick, given his current form.

The way we play constantly leaves us open to counter attacks, this was neither accentuated nor removed when Cleverley plays. The way Cleverley and Anderson closed down the opposition quickly when they didn't have the ball more than made up for it for me.

The way carrick's been playing, he's among the first names on the sheet for me. no way is he going to be dropped.

I'm not singling him out (I didn't mean to at least).Just saying that Cleverley's cracking start didn't mean our midfield was close to perfection. We still needed to buy another player

Just saying that despite his impressive start, another midfielder was still needed to be bought.

Oh I know, I wasn't trying to say you were, and I agree entirely. Carrick's current form and Scholes tidy return have made people believe we don't actually need another midfielder which really isn't true.

Unfortunately, it didn't make up for it on the pitch. We were far too open in almost every game they started together. Unacceptably so.

To conclude, Cleverley would have to play in a midfield three or with Carrick.

Yeah, not sure where Gambit is coming from. Your 2 midfielders chasing the ball around the place doesn't compensate for the back that there is noone to protect the back 4 and sit back. It's clear from Carrick being in the team that the latter is far more effective.

Whats Gambits getting at is that when the 2 of them played we were much more dynamic and defending further up the pitch. Defensively we were going to suffer but I never felt once that they were dominated out of a game and the results more than made up for it.

Wasn't that my point? I never said they were getting dominated out of games

Anyway, we all know our early results were overblown due to the poor/depleted teams we were facing at the time. Anderson and Cleverley have yet to be tested in REALLY big games and I firmly believe we'd be very exposed and would suffer big time defensively if it was just the 2 of them. Carrick has to be in that midfield.

I never said you did. I was just saying that the results and displays more than made up for it for me.

Early doors still. Let's see how he copes when he comes back. I hope he will find his early season form quickly when he's back.

Honestly, once everyone is fit, I hope that SAF sticks to a midfield trio made up of Pogba, Clev and Carrick. For all we know it may end up solving our CM problem and making the Glazers a happy bunch.

Shame that the reserves-game tonight got postponed. Was looking forward to see a midfield of Cleverley, Petrucci, Pogba tearing Chelsea a new one

It's going to be good to have him back as an option though. Before Scholes returned, we were missing a midfielder able to play quick passes and move into space to receive the ball. A midfield of Cleverley, Scholes and Carrick should be able to stack up close to 100% possession if we're looking to secure a win. I might be exaggerating slightly, though he'll hopefully come back and have an impact on our team.

I believe that Fergie left the CM/AM spot open because he need to let the young players like Pogba/Petruccini/Cleverly something to work for.

It's Petrucci and Cleverley

I get your point though, and I somewhat agree. Stocking up midfielders would mean less time for our youngsters and probably demotivate them as they would have an ever longer wait for a chance in the first team. Obviously they should work towards getting a starting spot no matter who is infront of them, but someone like Sneijder or Modric would take up the space that they could be offered at some point, but then again it would be up to them to show Fergie why we shouldnt invest in a new midfielder.

Just saw that the reserves game against Chelsea has been postponed. Was looking forward to seeing Clev.
Will he play against Elite Dev. Squad on thrusday or be involved directly against Liverpool?

Surely a week of intensive training with the first team squad should get him fit enough,

With Carrick,Scholes and Giggs on form, I don't think we should involve him against Liverpool.

Maybe should be on the bench, but I think that Amsterdam is a perfect chance for him to come back.

You're right, Maciek, although I'd have him as an impact sub if things aren't going too well - remember the Community Shield...

Yup. I agree. Carrick, Giggs and Scholes have all been brilliant lately.

Ajax will be a good game for Cleverley to start.

Good point though Giggs lasted the whole game didn't he? Not that he can't start every week but Fergie is very careful with his minutes.

But we're not going to play with three in midfield. Carrick and Scholes to start and Giggs to come off the bench, for me.

And I really believe another 90 minutes would not be a problem for Giggs after 6-day break (with not that important Europa League matches before our next league game).
