It's not like I want Alderweireld, but I want someone ready to be a consistent performer. Their age is something I don't consider unless it's a very big positive (like with De Ligt).

Alderweireld has at least a couple of more quality years left. And he would slot straight in. Don’t understand people turning their noses up at him and Meunier. Could potentially sort the defense for now for £50m.

Yeah to be fair, very solid defender, reads the game well, makes very few mistakes and has a lovely long ball on him. The only weakness he has is that he isnt that fast, but like I said his reading of the game makes up for this, will be sad to see him go. He is a top professional too like most Ajax products.
How so? Koulibaly is one of the most complete defenders out there who's actually attainable for United. Maguire is pretty good, but if you see them both playing, Maguire is yet to perform at the levels that Koulibaly has.
I don’t think TA would be worth the outlay in wages. He isn’t a leader and imho he’s not playing to the standards he used to. That being said I hope he has a stormer in the CL final

Heading isn’t as good as it could be for a guy with his build. He’s 28 and built like a brick wall. That lends to more injuries as he gets older. But the bottom line for me is his price, he’s not worth it and won’t get better at his age

He's not coming to united it's no chance for that period. If he go now it's 25 mill to to the club. If he wait one year all the money goes to him with a big sign on fee. And it will be he's last contract. So he will stay and wait.

I can't see that working out that well for him tbf. He'll be a year older so less appealing to clubs and he'll be offered a shorter contract due to it. He'll end up in China or Qatar if he takes that route, if thats what he wants then fair fecks to him.

He is vastly better than any of your current defenders - not just in defending, which his main strength is positioning (top class) but his distribution from the back is extremely good. He would most definitely strengthen your squad.
He is our second best defender after Vertonghen who is an absolute Rolls Royce of a player and seems to go under the radar a bit - I'd be more gutted at losing Verts than Toby.

Yes, it would be for the money. He has already turned down a very generous offer from Spurs, so United would need to offer him at least £200k per week and possibly more.

If de Ligt can't happen and maguire is insane money and Koulibaly is not for sale, we should definitely sign him while keeping close tabs on defenders in preparation for next summer. He and lindelof would be good together
Would definitely be an upgrade on our defenders and a quality player for at least a season. But if we offer him a 4 year contract, which I suspect he will ask for on big wages, then it could potentially be a bad move. He's not exactly the most injury free player which many of the injuries being muscle injuries that will affect his athleticism. Plus he's approaching 30, I can see him declining pretty quickly after another season.

Equivalent of transfer fee maybe not but surely if (for example) De Gea leaves for free next season his agent will be asking for a massive signing on fee. It's why Sanchez is on so much a week.
He won't get 25m but he will get a fair chunk more than he would if the club had to pay a transfer fee. It's definitely worth it for a player as a free agent.
