This.In fairness, low release clauses can lead to escalating bonuses or agent fees. If the point is Spurs not getting a penny more fair enough, but you can't compare an all in cost with a release clause like that.
Its not like the club is going to save 25-45 £M (whatever fee one wants to believe) if we wait until next year. so we can spend it somewhere else Come next summer the player and/or his agent will ask for that money in a sign-on bonus or ask to be compensated salary-wise. Or his agent is not good at what he does.
Its the total cost for Aldweireld over the term of his contract (fee, salary, bonuses agent fees) that is relevant for the buying club. And it will be more or less the same this summer or next. Where that money ends up is a matter of allocation between Tottenham and the player.
