Very weird analogyIs it wrong that my reaction to this is similar to when people go on ‘’hunting’ trips and get killed by an elephant or similar?
I think there are absolutely no parallels. This is about some extremely rich but rather stupid millionaires who wanted to go see the Titanic - a matter of interest to many over the years. They weren't really harming anyone apart from themselves but agreeing to sit in those ridiculous machines. Trophy hunters though, are the absolute scum of the Earth. Is it wrong that my reaction to this is similar to when people go on ‘’hunting’ trips and get killed by an elephant or similar?
Indeed. I think a lot of the reaction is down to seeing the submersible and asking ourselves if we'd have paid 250k to get on it and go see a shipwreck with all the things that could potentially go wrong.Even if they find the thing, how do they get it back to the surface?
This is an absolute nightmare. Imagine being stuck in that thing knowing you're just fecked.

Something I've always wanted to ask: When people say this, do they genuinely pray for the people they're talking about?I kinda understand your reaction.
I too find the passengers extremely stupid and naive, but I do pray for them and hope they get rescued.
They’re very safe overall. Not as safe as commercial flights though, which is actually one of the safest places you can be at any time.
People are dying right now, all over, probably less than a mile from you. I just have a limited amount of compassion, which I save for people I know or those most disadvantaged. So it's fine to laugh and mock them then is it? While they are likely dead or in the process of dieing. Is that really ok with you?
Not having much compassion is not the same as being ok with people mocking or laughing about it.People are dying right now, all over, probably less than a mile from you. I just have a limited amount of compassion, which I save for people I know or those most disadvantaged.
I don't feel much for the most wealthy, choosing to do something dumb, then falling foul.
No they aren’t. That’s my point. It’s safer than walking down the street. They’re right at the top of the list of unsafe places to be, when considered against all places.
Out of all the people who are going to die this week, these aren't the ones I feel most sorry for. But I don't really get the comparison to big game hunters, since these guys weren't actively harming anyone else or the environment (as far as I'm aware). I'd say Everest climbers are more like the big game hunters. These guys just wanted to go really deep, and it didn't work out.
Submarines?!No they aren’t. That’s my point. It’s safer than walking down the street.

Only thing cruel they're doing is to themselves by agreeing to go 3 miles deep into the ocean in a ridiculous contraption manufactured at Walmart. There’s an interview with the guy who owns the sub earlier. He said he wasn’t actually making much money on the deal because he spends a million dollars on fuel. So that’s a chunky carbon footprint right there. But yeah, the big game hunter comparison is stupid. They’re not doing anything cruel.
A kid?!He’s just a kid. Teenagers are awkward as feck. They don’t know what they’re doing most of the time. Poor lad.

Considering they signed a waiver that freed the company from responsibility in case of their death they had to have considered that death was a possibility. And then they went and paid that company an amount of money that would be life-changing for the vast majority of the world's population to end up in this situation.I mean they could have or could be dying a horrific death, you have to have some compassion in that regard at the very least.
Their decision to do something that stupid though makes it harder to care. A literal example of more money than sense.
It would be like someone trying to ride a lion for a laugh and getting fecking ripped to pieces, it would be hard to really care that much.
I guess it depends how safe they were lead to believe this thing was, but it seems like they were fully aware it was a pile of junk. May as well have just gone down in a car instead.
it’s not the first time pogue’s confused a teenager for someone in their thirties. the police didn’t buy it then and they won’t buy it now.
He also @'d the whole band yesterday.

*ManThat’s definitely a kid who doesn’t give a feck about his step-dad.
