Titanic tourist submersible missing | Sub's debris found - crew "have been lost"

One of those threads with wild inconsistency in the level of gravitas deemed appropriate.

Somebody wanted him dead.

Helicopters, small airplanes, submarines, space shuttles... These things are not very safe when you consider the number of accidents compared to how little they are used. Surely the number one risk to wealthy people? Kobe, the former Leicester City owner and now this guy, just from the last few years.

Not true, they're very safe based on the numbers

Space shuttles excluded

With the Virgin Galactic flight scheduled soon, is that where we'll see the next major accident gone wrong with billionaires on board?

Not sure about submarines, but helicopters and small planes have a significantly higher chance of crashing than commercial planes (if you look at death rate it's not much separating the two, but that's because big commercial planes have significantly more passengers on board).

Maybe you're thinking about cars? Although I remember reading that Kobe increased his chances of dying by 20 times by choosing a helicopter over a car. And that had nothing to do with the weather that day, just pure statistics.

Don't bother, it's just adex waiting to see what he can whimsically point out to be wrong. Based on his own secret data.

They’re very safe overall. Not as safe as commercial flights though, which is actually one of the safest places you can be at any time.

You're right on helicopters and small planes being more fatal than commercial planes, but the deadliest form of travel remains car travel.

That’s incorrect.

Helicopters are actually pretty safe. Not as safe as commercial planes but a lot safer than cars for the same distance travelled.

And the safety improves dramatically if you exclude low altitude travel used in search and rescue, or during dangerous weather.

Kobe dying was such bad news for the helicopter industry because most people can’t process stats.

Also this is a submersible not a submarine. I don’t have any stats but the former is almost certainly a lot less safe.

The stats for helicopters vary a lot depending how they are used. Good weather sight-seeing routes are extremely safe. Using it like Kobe did, in bad weather, in mountains and varying routes is very dangerous when done as often as he did.

Looks like it lost comms with the parent vessel after 1 hour and 45 minutes (dive down would’ve taken about 2 hours). Doesn’t look good.

Well they did say it's a once-in-a-lifetime trip in their press release.
