Timothy Fosu-Mensah loan

As little as Axel being used as fullback, Axel already looks much more impressive as full back than TFM. TFM has the physical ability, but overall ability, Axel has leaped over since the end of last season when his physicality is filling out &i and catching up to TFM's.
Not sure I'd agree with that but each to their own.

Watched game today and if De Boer keeps doing things in same fashion,he will turn one of best home grounds against him and that will lead to quick sacking. If that happens, we should pull TFM out because in that scenario crowd might hate everything related to De Boer, noticed today that crowd really was unhappy with the way how they play from the back etc.

THe fans have praised TFM and RLC as their best players.

Well, let's not freak out too early. It can't be easy transitioning from a manager like Allardyce to one like DeBoer. It's like the fall of the Berlin Wall. Bit of a shock to the system, but Eastern Europe will recover.

Its not freaking out, in some periods it looked like fans desire vs manager`s orders. Fans wanting them to speed up and go long, while clearly players were under orders to build up slowly from the back.

If they win a few games, they'll chill. Players are employing a radically different method and will take time to transition. If results remain poor there will be a problem, obviously.

Well i seen a little of him today, looked ok. Strong Pacey Nice touch at times. Did well i though especially as it was his first game with a bunch of lads he knows for 2 days.

I know its just the start and theres a long way to go. But that tackle and the speed to make up the ground, TFM, take a bow son. Its only a flash but hopefully its a view of things to come. Going to get games and if he keeps playing and improving like this he will be with us very soon or it will be Michael Keane II at very least.

Delighted for him!

Not that high on forum i went to check. Then again in most posts they focused more on their own senior CBs, they were way worse then him.
Tomkins, just terrible. Was TFM injured? I've only seen motd, not sure why the change was made.

I agree we need to look at the situation if de Boer makes a swift exit again. However one thing that helps TFM in this situation is his versatility, another manager could use him elsewhere of course.

That recovery was amazing, he ran from the wrong side and still made the tackle!

Watched the first half only and Crystal Palace was terrible. Their players (all of them) weren't discipline enough and looked like headless chicken with 343. The manager is so clueless in his first game. Fosu Mensah just do what he usually does, good tackle, good pace and strength, nothing special to show that he's ready mentally. But the most important IMO he gets a lot of minutes.

Who is now seen as the bigger talent between him and Axel? Or are they not really pegged to end up at the same position in the end?

timo is more about power and pace or in an easy word a better athlete while axel seems to have a better overall package as a modern footballer.

if we are going to field our strongest under 21 team maybe tuanzebe-mensah would be our first choice CB and they probably pretty much compliment each other.

long term or at senior level it is not going to happen. timo's best chance of becoming a united regular is at RB / reserve CB while axel might have a better chance than timo to be a regular at CB.

think there will be space for both of them in the first team.

People might say he's an all brawl but no brain type but his pace really does make a big difference even at top level plus he clearly can play. Today is the first time he played CB after a long while plus he did not even train with them enough. Gonna be massive.

What are the consensus on his loan this season?

Really think he should be competing for that RB spot next season.

We need an attacking rightback. TFM is better suited to being a defensive rightback. If he can work on his crossing then he'd be in with a chance at United. Otherwise he's going to have another loan somewhere he can play central defence. Needs more experience at this moment in time.

I think he'll get some game time at RB next season. Jose has identified CM as the key area we need to strengthen, which i tend to agree with.

Rightly or wrongly, I don't think we'll bring a RB in tbh.

Id say loan for another year. We will replace valencia with him the year after

He offers next to nothing going forward so not sure he'll solve anything tbh. Would be a decent squad option but i'd rather he developed more on loan for another season. Not convinced he's a right back anyway fwiw.

Would prefer Valencia to be the back up option next year. He should still be around, we just need better starting week in week out.

Tend to agree, he had a storming start to the season but declined. Not a bad squad player to have though.

I think he could make a very good Mourinho RB, in the Ivanovic mood, is that for next season? I'm not sure. Ideally I want him to deputize to Valencia next season, while we bring a world class RW to play in front of them. I'm not sure he is a CB like most here think, but I rate his talent and if we invest time and patience he can do a job for us in a couple of positions.

I would like to see him here next season. We need cover for Valencia, if Mourinho doesn't bring in a right full back.

I agree with you, it's time to bring him back. I think his strength and speed is what MU need and these should enable him to get past defenders, lets face it,
this is something missing from Valencia's game. He could maybe get games both at CB and at RB and see how he develops.
I suppose it will be a fifty-fifty chance whether he gets another loan season or plays at MU depending on whom we buy in the summer. I hope it's the latter because I liked what I saw when he played for us the season before this.

Doesn't really mean much. The season is pretty much over and they have no reason to play someone who isn't theirs. He was unlucky that he got screwed over a bit by the can't play against parent club rule as it meant they had to play Wan Bissaka who subsequently performed great and earned the spot.

He doesnt even start every week for Palace...

He needs to go out on loan again.

Nobody really knows what his best position is yet. He used to be a midfielder, played some games as CB, then had to play at RB and did okay.. United need to figure out what his best position is and then either loan him out to a club who will play him there regularly or use him as a sub ourselves.

Our game against CP came at the worst possible time for TFM. He was impressing and doing well in big games v City and Spurs. We then come to town and CP had to draft in Wan-Bissaka and he's been pretty much benched ever since, and now with Ward back, he's not getting that either.

IMO, this is a bad sign. He may just be an average player who can fill in different positions.

The PFA Young Player of the year called Fosu-Mensah his toughest opponent this season. :p Given we're currently relying on Valencia at right back I'm open to giving Timbo a go.

Modern day John O'Shea?

Competent in a few positions, master of none?

I've got to say his load spell has taught us nothing. His game time has been poor and in a Palace squad that has struggled, he's not made much of an impression.

People saying he should be 1st choice RB for us maybe a little off the mark. Loans to struggling teams are often hard for the player, I recall Cleverly struggling at Wigan so this may not be the best judgement. Sure there are lots of examples.

I'm a fan, the lad has talent but I'd put this loan down as a negative rather than a positive. I've always maintained that we will not now how good these youngsters are if we do not give them a chance. Maybe TFM would excel as a DM or RB? Lets at least keep him around the squad and try him

His game time hasn't been poor at all. 1800 minutes is a good amount and is valuable top level experience. Its been a decent loan and he'd have got nowhere near that experience by staying here. It's a shame Wan Bissaka came out of nowhere but it happens with loans, they have no benefit of developing TFM at the end of the season.

This season TFM currently has 1594 mins of PL football. Under Mourinho he got 94 mins of PL football last season (323 mins in all competitions). Under LVG he had 252 mins in the PL and 404 mins in all competitions.

I think we have 2 realistic scenarios: one is to buy left-backs and use Valencia, Young and TFM as right-backs. Give TFM domestic cup games and an occasional start against weaker PL opponents at home. The other scenario would be to buy a right-back and send TFM out on loan for another season.

At the moment TFM's skill-set perhaps isn't a great match for the problems we have had recently with Valencia offering very little going forwards, apart from the 3 goals he has scored. If anything, TFM might be a medium term replacement for the current Valencia, rather than someone we could use in situations that don't suit the current Valencia.

This is interesting.
He isn't good enough to be a first team regular at CP, yet people think that he should play for MUFC?
Am I missing something, here?
