Timo Werner to Chelsea

I've not seen much of Pulisic except the Burnley game is he any good?

Like any young player he has blown hot and cold. Started the season really well then had a dip in form and was dropped. I think he'll come good for them though (and you'd expect him to given he cost just shy of £60m!)

This is a fairer response. Thanks. I did my best tongue biting when posting that to be as fair as possible. Sancho has not signed yet and until he does it's only "ifs".

Bruno is world class IMO, for me potential PL player of the season if he can carry on his form next year, and he will bring the best out of Martial, Rashford and Pogba. However, Utd are not a top four looking team yet from an outsider's perspective. A big reason for that is because you have Ole in charge. That's also IMO of course.

Chelsea with kids, literally kids, are finishing ahead of Ole this season. That's unacceptable, whatever the excuses. Utd will be stronger next season but as we're seeing, Chelsea will too. One thing to not change will be Ole

Chelsea and Leicester in their current form pre-covid-19 are lucky to secure a spot in the Europa League. Leicester especially are in big trouble to even stay in the top4. Manchester United have one the most important thing: become nearly impossible to score on.

You're forgetting something very important here: Manchester Uniteds matchday squad is younger than Chelseas matchday squad most games this season.

You would swap them for Bruno and Rashford? Because that's where they're playing

Ziyech would be playing at RW and Werner up top for Chelsea I assume. Bruno plays in midfield for us a CM or CAM while Rashford has been best at LW. So I'm not sure how would they be any swap?

So it'll be Werner - Tammy - Ziyech trio then. Unless if they are still interested to sign a striker.
Werner is a striker.

I reckon we could see a
4-2-2-2

KEPA/NEW GK
Azpi Rudiger Zouma NEW LB
Kante Kovacic
Ziyech—————Mount
Tammy Werner

Forgive the back 5 but the front 6 would be a good balance.

They're getting a pretty good team together now. Ziyech, Werner and one of Pulisic, CHO or Abraham is bound to make it. Sort their defence out and they could challenge again.

Mate - the belly of that team is way too soft.

Last 12 games before lockdown United had 1 more point than Chelsea, since Bruno's arrival you've had three more points (so the only difference being the head to head which there's no more off) and the last game before the suspension we devoured a team you needed a keeper error to get a point against the week before.

You weren't exactly leaving us for dust by any form metric and early signs are Gilmour has been a serious shot in the arm for us same way Bruno's been for you.

Let's take off our red-tinted glasses and acknowledge the fact that getting Ziyech for 30 odd million and Werner for 45 to 50m was a great deal of business. Ziyech, in particular, is someone who runs tirelessly and is an assist machine and Werner is a goal machine. Just because we brought in Bruno and he managed to click immediately does not make us better. And the fact that they've added them for 80m, implies they could invest in some more players considering they've not spent much for over a year now. All of us are putting all our eggs in the Sancho basket expecting him to make us title contenders after coming here which I'm highly doubtful of. We would still need a proper striker, a defensive midfielder, a center back and an attacking midfielder as we can't rely on Bruno to be fit throughout the season. Bruno's replacements are Lingard and Pereira which is such a huge drop, it's crazy.

They still have more to spend and my hopes is that it's spent elsewhere not on a certain German based English winger.

Ziyech plays on the right wing (can play on the left but I suspect he won't) and is a playmaker. Totally different position and skill set than Rashford.
But Lampard has said he will play centrally and Werner likes to be an inside forward like Rashford (from what I've read on here) so they are in the same positions?
I do think these are great signings but this isnt 2018 where United fans can loudly whinge on the sidelines with some legitimacy. Maguire, AWB, Bruno, James and even Ighalo arw a great bit of 6 month business. Add Sancho to that and self deprecation doesnt make sense.
I do hope clubs like yourselves improve a few levels since im sick of seeing City and Liverpool cake walk a piss poor league so these signings are welcome (only due to my confidence of United improving even further)

Not so sure the wage is the issue. Just don't think you have the money for a big transfer. I read somewhere that Coutinho hasn't triggered all the clauses for his transfer as well, meaning your cash reservoirs are lower than expected?
The clauses that hasn't been triggered are 2 for Barca to win the CL in 18/19 and 19/20 and 1 for Coutinho making 100 appearances for Barca, the rest of the clauses has been met (CL qualification in same 2 seasons, and 25, 50, 75 appearances). It would have been idiotic to only plan and budget for all the clauses being met within 2.5 years if that's the case, so I highly doubt it.

Mate - the belly of that team is way too soft.
I’m not so sure I think both Kante and Kovacic have the legs in them And defensive nous to handle iMount tracks back and Werner/Tammy always gives you an outlet if under pressure.

I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if we see it next season.

I just do not for one second think Chelsea would spend that much to shift Werner wide. Werner played like 2/3 times in the league this season wide and almost always had a partner upfront.

Which adds to my view they will play
4-2-2-2

Thought he was on less. I heard Werner getting 200k per week would've made him our highest paid player. Might be wrong.
Isn't Salah around that much if not more? I remember reading this recent articles on highest paid athletes in the world including endorsements and Salah was like on like 25 million endorsement his salary of 220 or 250 weekly(or maybe they were talking about dollars rather than pound, didn't pay much attention).

Ziyech and Werner for 85 million is a great bit of business, especially considering Sancho is going to cost more than both of them combined.

That’s if he comes here at all, still need to qualify for the CL.

It’s incredible business on paper. Two excellent talents for very reasonable prices.

We also spanked Manchester City 2-0 at OT before this thing ended. The top6 sides hasn't been an issue, it's been fumbling with the lesser park the bus sides that's caused all the grief this season. That for the moment appears to be largely solved with the introduction of a midfielder with a creative bone in his body.

9 clean sheets the past 11 matches, so there's also that.

On paper, our remaining fixtures are also easier. That entirely depends if the team hits the gates running or needs time to find their footing.

In this climate though? I really think Sanchos price is the exception. Combined they might be the most expensive duo bought this summer by any side. This very well could be on the expensive side for the non elite players from now on.

I'm not sure how they both walk in to the team if you're suggesting that they both play RW?

My thoughts are you can get one of them in but if Ziyech is a central player he doesn't displace Pogba or Bruno. You can make an argument for Werner however I don't think we needed either player hence us not showing any interest.
I don't think both of them would wald in to our team together but who knows. One for sure would with our current squad.

It doesn't matter where Ziyech might play for Chelsea.

He is very capable at RW and better than any current option we have.

And Werner would get it one way or the other I suspect. Wether that be displacing Martial or reorganising who plays where.

But if we sign Sanch then Ziyech for sure wouldn't start and Werner is a 50/50. Depends who is a better 9 between him and Tony.

And right now no one knows the answr to that.

But theyll get overran, 3-5-2 butchers that midfield.Their forwards would never see the ball.
I think 100% it will be a two striker system.

So perhaps
5-3-2
Kepa
Azpi Rudiger Zouma
James Kante Kovacic NEW
Ziyech
Abraham Werner

or

3-5-2

Kepa
Azpi Rudiger Zouma
James ......Jorginho* ..... NEW
Ziyech Kante
Tammy Werner

Yes. I think regardless of climate getting Werner at his clause and Ziyech for a low fee considering his ability and stats Chelsea have on paper played an absolute blinder. They’ve sorted crucial positions with excellent talents early on in the market and now won’t have to worry about corona prices and a shifting market.

I suspect the reintroduction of the season has given them confidence financially to pursue these deals and they haven’t dithered.

Don't get me wrong i'm not saying there's no chance you'll finish above us (hopefully City's ban will remain and likely render the battle irrelevant) i just don't agree you were miles better than us, if you were you'd have our top 4 spot already.

This has really picked up pace tonight, even BBC have their own article on the subject

We have the money for Werner regardless as Atletico are obliged to buy Morata.

Maybe. Its just the fact the likes of Liverpool and Madrid cant afford to sign anybody leaves me wondering if 50m odd really is that cheap these days.
I dont think Ajax could sell anybody for 40m this summer for instance. They are squeezed for cash and there isnt much of a market this summer. If Chelsea makes that same signing 2 months later they get a massive discount imo.
But, again, fair play to them. You have to use these clear finacial runs to your advantage

Perhaps I worded myself wrong. What I tried to convey is that Chelsea have dropped a lot of points for a while after a phenomenal start, but Leicester are in major, major trouble. I can very well see them landing outside the top4. 1 win 2 draw in the last 7.

If we wait 2 months he's probably signed for someone else.

We get into promising areas but have had a big problem with finishing and decision making, Zyiech and Werner coming in alongside hopeful improvement from Pulisic, Mount, CHO could be massive.

I do agree with your point regarding top four and both of us seem to be developing nicely, that's why in many ways OGS and Lampard are safe bets, even if they ultimately don't turn out to be good enough they'll leave very good squads for a manager that is.
Yeah, both are definitely doing very good work for the future regardless. And I read you lot are going in for Chilwell as well which would be a big plus. Can see a gap between City/Liverpool/Chelsea/United and the rest next year if these moves do all happen for both clubs. But still think it'd be city/liverpool for the title for now, with Chelsea and United being more competitive in the cups.

Theres like 3 clubs that has money in their pocket this summer, I wouldn't have worried! Hence the Werner signing.
So does this kill the Auba link for you?

They are financed differently and have invested much more heavily recently compared to Chelsea. It’s also very early in the window to be saying they can’t afford anyone.

I don’t think Ajax have a player in their squad currently worth £40m even pre covid the closest would have been Van De Beek who I’d say £35m would have been fair.

I think what they have done is much more sensible than waiting to potentially pennypinch. They’ve got ahead of the rest of the market payed a fee they can afford for two quality signings.

Had we done similar I’d be happy but I’d still say Fernandes and Sancho would be a biggger upgrade for us than Werner and Ziyech for them.

Agreed i think both of us need 1 more season before we can even think about going for them two over 38 games, however a season similar to Liverpool 17/18 is very much achieveable for both sides as you touched up on.

I think Ziyech will primarily play on the right but will also get plenty of time in the #10 role. But remember we have Mount who is almost Frank's first name on the team sheet and is key to our high pressing game. So I don't think Ziyech just permenantly displaces Mason from that spot.

Ziyech's biggest and best weapon is his wand of a left foot. It makes much more sense to play him out wide where he can swing in those fantastic crosses that he's known for than playing him just behind the striker where opponents will pack their defense.
