Time to get militant?

Hate to be pessimistic one but fan power won’t be enough, TRA and the 1958 group was a good idea but you are going up against billionaires here who really don’t give a feck about what a group of lads from Manchester think or do. Just take yesterday as an example, they were inside the ground and feck all happened.

This fanbase don’t have enough unity to sustain action. A lot of matchgoers don’t actively want to support demonstrations, as is their right, they just want to go to the game then go home. We’ve enough recent proof that these things gather little steam in the main.

It’s very difficult to get 70,000+ people in on something. Andy Mitten has spoke about it on podcasts a few times, he gets different answers to the problem from pretty much every other fan & he constantly mentions how quickly the fanbase turn on each other. Weren’t there fights at the Brighton game ffs.

I agree with the comments around choosing our battles carefully. The Glazers are going nowhere soon, so it would be better for us fans to force them to appoint the right people in the right positions with audits and accountability, rather a bunch of exec mates taking this great club to the cleaners!

The current crop of names being mentioned in the media are a joke, they are not worthy or good enough to wear the great shirt.

Need better players who make the startingX1 stronger.

If they keep allowing the club to spend more than any other club and pay the highest wages in world football, and if they follow through and let the DOF look after football matters, then things will improve in time

If people are upset about murtagh then that really is childish. Woodward is understandable, murtagh is a football person

He is?

Many fans are more prone to bitching about the fans that are protesting than the Glazers. They don't think things can change and they mock those that do. It's a weird attitude.

I genuinely think the Liverpool game has all the hallmarks for total and utter chaos and disruption. A sad sad sight but maybe one that is needed. The message needs to be repeated and repeated. These inbred yanks need to feck off back Florida and sell this great football club.

I'd love to see that repeated a couple of times a season. Best thing we've done in years.

Well it would look pretty spectacular on TV and would certainly make the point. Unfortunately in hitting the glazers where it hurts, it won’t. Official attendance would still be 73,000. Tickets have been sold. Money’s in the bank.

As soon as all season tickets were sold and the TV money for this season was confirmed, they had licence to sit back and soak it all up. Damage already done.
I don’t have a season ticket. I won’t be going to any games and I won’t buy so much as a beanie cap while the Glazers own the club. Enough is enough.

OP is being laughed at but I don't disagree with the sentiment. Boycotting isn't going to work since there'll always be daytrippers keen to snap up tickets. Only way to hurt these parasites unfortunately is to get games cancelled and concern the sponsors.
I ain’t laughing. Sick what they have done to our great club.

We need more militant football fans but you are trying to force out private owners of the biggest football club in Britain with a illegal consumer sit in protest, where the average season ticket holder is around 50 years old.

Yeah it’s never going to work.

It's just fecking sad now isn't it.

If the Glazers tried to buy another PL club the way they bought ours, there are rules preventing it. We are so fecked.

I’m all for some pro-active direct action. I think we should kidnap Scott McTominey and threaten to let him go unless we buy a DM.

Very disturbing if the transfer rumors about Rabiot and SMS are true. That’s grounds for serious anger based on neither of them contributing anything to the current squad (contrary to what some might say, they’re actually both quite talented, but they’re not what we need right now)

I agree. Got my hair done. Lets go. Where we fighting?

Protests happen so often they are literally meaningless. At some point we'll have the conversation of how poorly organised and botched fans groups opposition to the owners have been.

Essentially the fans are a cash cow to both sides. Paying someone to help them make a profit from their excess green and gold clothing range has never ever done a thing to oppose anything they've done but it's paid for a few decent holidays I shouldn't wonder.

Watch out for more merchandise to show your opposition.

Your fanbase seems so divided. They really need to unite because this cannot go on much longer. You guys are being milked and get 0 in return, it really hurts to see.

Now this may seem a knee-jerk reaction (and frankly it might be) but this isn’t about a single result, or a single (lack of) transfer, this is 17yrs of build-up of horrific ownership with only shareholder profits to show for it. I just want to vent my spleen a little, so here goes.

We see journalists all about their cancerous, parasitic ownership of the club, but they (the Glazers) couldn’t give a shit! Avram Glazer was happy to come to Old Trafford yesterday for crying out loud!!!

The most effective protests recently were against the ESL when fans interrupted games and sent a clear message. We did this with the postponement of the Liverpool game and pushed it on television across the world.

We need more of this. We need to get the Glazers to sell. What we need is consistent interruption of televised games. I’m talking 5, 10, 15 games, all televised, all with mass pitch invasions or pre-match invasions of the stadium to get games stopped or postponed.

Yes this will damage the brand short term, but I believe this would be the only genuine way to put pressure on the Glazers. If TV companies, sponsors, and the League themselves push against the Glazers then we might be able to get them to budge and finally feck off.

Look, this is never going to work. For all the reasons that have been discussed and one that hasn't: instead complaining about the Glazer ownership, why not focus on the actions of a certain person that enabled them to buy the club in the first place and who is still employed by the Glazers, as an Associate Director/Consultant. Start a campaign to rid the club of the old guard instead. The trouble is, you wont get 70,000 fans to speak as one on this, you wont get millions of fans to accept an unpalatable truth and I bet you wont even get a sizeable proportion of users of this site to agree on this: United will never move forwards whilst they keep looking backwards. Why is Darren Fletcher in the dugout? Why is Steve McClaren working with ETH? Why is Ronaldo still our main striker and why the heck are David Gill/Bryan Robson and Sir Alex Ferguson still involved in decision making at the club?

You will hardly get any people to say owt bad about them though: Captain Marvel, stoic Fletcher, ex-assistant McClaren (from 1999), the greatest Manager of all time and the King, it would be tantamount to treason in some peoples eyes. So lets go after some Americans instead because they don't know anything about 'soccer' and are just bleeding us dry - even though the truth is more complex: Maguire 80 million, Pogba 90 million, Ronaldo a million a month.... & I could go on.

We’ve been Banter FC for years now but this summer has displayed such gross incompetence that points dropped against Brentford will be the tipping point.

Not that three points against Brentford should placate anybody in the face of such amateurish running of a football club and the purchasing of more obvious deadwood.

Lose against Brentford and liverpool, and I think things will get rather militant

We need to make it fan-owned!!!

Oh wait...

But seriously, what's the point of all this when there is no solution? It is just basically organised venting.

No point disrupting and ruining games for everyone, when this shit show is caused by a small number at the top, that's who you need to get to.

I understand it may not work but we can also see the current way does not work too. There have been protests against Glazers for so long but this week feels just a bit different. Everyone has really had enough this time.

I think the media are starting to turn in our favour a little bit. Over the years there’s always been someone else outside the ownership to carry some of the heat, whether that be Mourinho, Woodward, Pogba, Ole etc. And I think the media did enjoy covering our demise for a few years.

But I think even the media has reached the point now where enough is enough. For us to have the summer window we’ve had so far after the season we’ve just had just shows the incompetence and lack of ambition of those running the club.

I think most neutrals and the media would have expected a response from United and the lack of one is making a few more people take notice of the ownership issue that is plaguing this club.

The thread title excited me. I thought we were going to launch a special operation to retake the United States, re-establish the British Empire, and then send the Glazers to the tower.

"Number 6"? I'm afraid I'm not familiar with that one.

Well, we just send a Paul Pogba round their house and he goes in all a dabbing and a dancing and a whampin and a whompin and... you know the score...

So if united was winning the urge to protest will subside?

I hate the cnuts but I really don't know if there is a solution unless you have some benevolent benefactor or some sovereign fund. Both aren't necessarily positive directions.

We've been militant before, and we'll be militant again. Lacking a figurehead(s) currently. The 1958 are having a crack but there's no real momentum yet - if we lose to Brentford...

Liverpool might get tasty.
