Ticket info thread - 2008/09: Touting will not be tolerated

To all newbies in the loyalty pot...

Any Blackburn spares? :D

I know its late but if anyone has any spares for Blackburn i'll have them please! Will be at the ground on the day so can pick up there...

How come I'm getting tickets for literally every game I apply for this season?

I used to not even bother trying via membership as it was so unlikely.

Have sales really dropped off that much?

Yes, a few have gone on general sale

The fixtures have something to do with it mind. It'll be much harder to get tickets for the second half of the season

I even got tickets for the Celtic game though. I'm having to flog off tickets to other people as I can't afford to go to all the games.

I've never been in a position of having a ticket I don't want before. Strange

It's always been easy to get midweek games at OT Noods, especially Champions League group stage games

Not against Celtic though, surely.

I've usually opted for midweek games in the past when applying, in fairness, as other cnuts seem to avoid them like the plague, yet for some reason I tend to enjoy them more.

I can see how it'd be easier to get tickets against teams like Bolton and West Brom, but I still can't recall it being so easy. Reckon there must be a drop off, whether it's due to the credit crunch, or the Irish suddenly becoming less interested in football, or something.

Not that I'm complaining.

Why are you presuming to know more about my local club than me? :smirk:

It wasn't difficult getting tickets for Celtic at home 2 years ago. There were empty seats around me, and half the people in the stadium seemed to be Celtic fans anyway, as they so wonderfully make obvious to us at full time. A lot of people can't make midweeks for work / travel reasons, don't think it really matters about the game itself. Obviously if its a one off, say Barca last season, suddenly people seem to make the exception

I'm uneasy with this culture of picking and choosing games. We've always accused teams of only coming to see United, and now we only come to see us play 'big' teams too. It'll lead to tiered pricing that's for sure

Well, in fairness, when it costs you over £150 a game, which it probably does for most non local fans, and you're not a rich cnut, you're unlikely to want to shell it out on a game against Hull.

Tiered pricing would actually make sense from the club's point of view. Though they seem to just charge whatever they feel like at the moment, so maybe not

Yes, well that's the downside of not supporting your local team Noods, and something you have to live with, not whinge about

Tiered pricing makes sense for supporters who pick and choose games. It's sad that United are heading that way. They'd probably just end up charging more for the 'lesser' games, and much more for the 'big' games anyway

United fans are already victims of this tiering system. Just because our club is rich and successful, it doesn't mean our travelling fans are, who are often required to pay 'A' tier ticket prices. I'd be resistant to it happening at OT too

Tiered pricing doesn't make sense for supporters who pick and choose games. It makes sense for a club who's supporters pick and choose games (i.e. Blackburn), but the supporters themselves would likely prefer if they could pick and choose without having to pay more for the ones they want.

I don't think many whinge about it, but similarly, not many are going to choose a game against Hull over a game against Arsenal, when they can't afford to attend every game. That's why Tiered pricing exists, and that's why United will revert to it if they start struggling to sell out against smaller sides.

Most of the whinging tends to come from season ticket holders, which has always amused me, since for me, 4 games a season equals more than the price of any season ticket at Old Trafford, and the season tickets for the bigger clubs around here are also significantly more expensive than United's.

When United hit financial problems, fans really are going to have something to whinge about.

Nice to know that the complaints of Manchester folk increasingly priced out of attending the club they've supported and followed all their lives amuses you Noods...

Your saying it costs over £150 a game. I've been a regular traveller back and forth from London, you can make the journey return on a coach for £20. A ticket for thirty and thats £50 - throw in some travel costs to Euston and its still probably half the amount you're claiming. Unless you're wasting money buying open ended tickets, in which case its you're own fault you're throwing your cash away

I have all the time in the world for United supporters from all corners of the globe. But not when they start complaining about how much tougher it is for them, and how much easier local supporters have it. Pisses me off that

It amuses me because first off, attending football games is a luxury, not a necessity, and secondly, because United's ticket pricing, though rising, is actually remarkably reasonable, compared to other English clubs similar in stature (I've no idea of Liverpool's, to be fair).

There are people who can't afford to pay their bills, who get on with it, and others who bitch like spoilt children because their football tickets cost more than they would like.

If travelling by train, open ended tickets don't cost any more from where I travel from, since they cover the whole journey, and allow flexibility as to where I stay on the night of the game, as I'm pretty sure I've already explained several times.

and I'm just not talking about me, I'm refering to non local fans in general. Many come from further afield, others need to book accomodation as well as travel, and don't get paid for the hours they lose at work. It all adds up.

I currently get paid for the hours I work, so if I account that to the cost of a United game, four games equal more than the cost of a season ticket to someone who lives up the road from the stadium. That's not whinging, it's just a statement. Pert said it cost him £400 to see the Barca game. So for him, 1 game a season equals the price of a season ticket. He could always choose not to go, as could I, and just as a season ticket holder could choose not to renew. and if one of us chooses not to go, where do you think the club turn to recoup the loss of income?

I have all the time in the world for United supporters from all corners of the globe. But not when they start complaining about how much tougher it is for them, and how much easier local supporters have it. Pisses me off that

No one's complaining about anything. In fact, I'm not even sure what point I'm trying to make. You've chosen to take issue with something again, and I can't figure out what it is, other than the fact that some people don't live in Manchester.

Many people live their lives through football Noods, they certainly don't see it as a luxery. More a necessity. The problem is that necessity is increasingly being taken away from them. You might just coldly claim that people can just choose not to renew, but you're treating going to United like going to the theatre to see an opera. Just because of your upbringing and opinion of football, don't impose it on others. Football fans from further afield should appreciate the woes of the local supporter, not question them and tell them how lucky they are. Without these local supporters having built the club to this point, there wouldn't be a United for further afield supporters to enjoy

There is nothing reasonable about £40 a game tickets Noods, whatever other clubs are charging. And those charging the greater amounts will be based down South in the main

Going to see United is a luxury, no matter how much of a die hard supporter a person might be. You're living proof of this.

"Football fans from further afield should appreciate the woes of the local supporter" - Yes, the woes of being able to see your team play in person every home game. When prices go up, they go up for everyone.

I can tall you now Noodle Utd is more a neccessity than a luxury for me.

feck knows what i'd be doing otherwise.

Life is bollocks apart from Saturday.
(Trying not to sound too much like Danny Dyer)

And just because they go up for everyone Noodle, does'nt mean we just lie down and accept it.

Which is what we are doing :(

Well, you can either lie down and accept it, or not pay for them.

Those are the two options.

If you suddenly couldn't go, for whatever reason, you'd probably be reduced to watching the games in a pub, or through a tiny little window on your computer screen, like the rest of us, but you wouldn't suddenly be unable to live.

There are people who can't afford to pay their bills, who get on with it, and others who bitch like spoilt children because their football tickets cost more than they would like.

But this is a United forum, Noods. If you want to listen to people bitch about bills instead of football, I'm sure there are other areas of the interenet more suited to you.

Does anybody know of any members actually getting chubbed yet this season? Whenever members I know have applied, they've got them - I got 4 seats together with a mate's membership for Bolton, which used to be unheard of!

I've got tickets for every home game so far (except Bolton which I missed applying for) including West Brom and West Ham, but got chubbed for Celtic :(

Not surprising you got tickets for every match so far except Celtic....all other games so far at OT have gone general sale/open to members to buy

If anyone offers you tickets on here above face, tell 'em to piss off, and report them.

Will be plenty around for face, and as Lizard said, they will most likely go on general sale.

No need to regiser on viagogo, you just ring up the TO.

I would rather pay over the odds on here than go through viagogo.

Thanks for the heads up mate, now I understand the term "touting".
I contacted Robin.
Cheers

Pert said it cost him £400 to see the Barca game

I was sickened when I found out that was his first time at OT.

How the feck can united justify someone being able to make a CL semi final against Barcelona their first trip to OT.

If I was at the ticket office and this tier system come in I would have applications levels that people can apply at.

For example, in order to apply for an A game (Liverpool, City, etc) you would have to build up a certain amount of loyalty points going to the lesser grade games.

A system where people can just pick the big games and which cost more will be the death of our support IMO.

I think the loyalty schemes for CL aways are what should be brought in for members if a tier was put in place.

This might seem attractive - but it seems that some hard-core reds would be happy to apply for, and get, loads of home tickets, and sell the vast majority of them on, so that they can get away tickets (and presumably tickets to big games such as the champions league semi).

This is no reward for loyalty at all - they have been to few home games - just the ones they have chosen.

All it rewards is the connections and the longevity of passing on tickets (illegally) to others - what an amazingly worthwhile system that would be.

You have a point.

The limit would have to be 1 ticket per member like it is now

Hull 1st Nov

I have been asked to try and get 2 tickets together for this game for 2 people over 65 years of age. Sounds like it's a prezzie though so just 'cost' full-face would be fine I reckon (they were dismayed at 96 or so a ticket being advertised somewhere).

I've sent a text to the local MUSC branch sec - but have also posted the request here so's a couple of 'owd codgers' can get to see the modern Utd team.

Cheers, FS!

They're on your booking history now Robin...

They always appear the night before.

Does anyone know whether you're better off applying for away games (knowing you'll get chubbed) than not applying at all? In terms of increasing chances of getting tickets in the future.

Always worth it mate.

And who knows what ticket loyalty thing they may bring in the future, however unlikely it seems now.

And if you can't be arsed applying on 'em, i'll do it for you!
