Just under £10m I thinkWhat sort of fee is being quoted?
What sort of fee is being quoted?
Is this being reported by anyone or anywhere concrete and reliable?
According to Sport Witness the story started in Belgian newspaper
Het Laatse Nieuws where sources close to the player said that talks had been held with United and that they had gone well. Van Gaal has given the go ahead as he worked with him in Ajax, and the clubs will start negotiations next weekend I think it was.
He didnt.
He didnt.
Ok, my bad if that's the case. Just quoting off the top of my head what I read this morning.
I was one of the few who thought we didn't need a top centre back brought in that would necessarily be guaranteed first choice. We just needed a good solid centre back who could replace the numbers we've lost.
Vermaelen isn't that. He wasn't a good defender when he was rated highly and now everyone including Wenger has figured he's not a very good player. There must be so many better centre backs across Europe we could snap up for a decent price if that's what we're looking for.
He did.
Van Gaal was the technical director of Ajax in 2004.
LVG is going to be making a lot of signings like this folks. It's not really in his nature to go after the biggest names, he has a system and he'll stick to the system and buy players (who probably won't be the obvious names) that fit that system best.
In this case you can see why he'd be interested in an experienced left footed ball playing centre back (at type of player thats absolutely essential to his system and style of play), who has the versatility to play LCB/LB in a flat back four, as well as LCB in a 3 man defence, with whom he's already familiar from his Ajax days. At under £10m it's not as if there's a massive risk involved.
Gotta trust LVG on such matters. He knows what he's doing and he knows what he needs to implement his syetem and style.
Ezequiel Garay looked decent last night. I think he would be a good option and he would be relatively cheap. I heard £15 million being quoted.

Even Hargreaves was able to pass from the medical test.
Surely we could do better in replacing Vidic and Rio then Arsenal's injury prone reject
I'd be raging if this actually went through. It's almost as if we want our transfer window to be rendered harder.
Aye his form has been very inconsistent. I personally put that down to being in and out of the side though.
I'm still hoping that this is all one big spelling mistake and we're actually interested in Vertonghen...
Hate to break it to you, but when a new manager comes in, that's kind of exactly what you have to do. It's pointless slating a new guy from the off, he has to be given a chance.Sorry but LVG hasn't done anything for United to be afforded our blind trust yet.
Who says he's trying to replace Rio and Vida??
For all we know, LvG could be planning a different way of of playing..

That's the only positive I see in this, also as a LEFT footed CB is that not an indicator of the same 352 we saw against Spain?
For example including rumoured signings:
---------------De Gea
----Smalling----Jones-----Vemaelen
Rafael---------------------------Shaw
----------Swine------Strootman
----------------Mata
---------Rooney-------RVP
Could be likely but I can't see room for Januzaj.

You don't say?
What's the point in hiring a manager at all if you don't trust him? never mind a manager of LVG's experience and success.
I don't recall Moyes being afforded the same from some sections of our fanbase. Shame, almost scouse-like with the way they treated Woy.

Just because "some sections" were like that, it doesn't mean everyone was. I think most people were of the opinion that he wasn't the right man for the job but SAF had selected him so we needed to support him, it was only when it because patently obvious he was in way over his head that he started to lose larger sections. Louis van Gaal has achieved a lot more in football than David Moyes had as well, I'll certainly trust him - at this moment in time, we have to.I don't recall Moyes being afforded the same from some sections of our fanbase.
