Vlaar,

or no one whats the point buying a player who is rarley fit enough to play? how does that help us in anyway?

What did people say about RvP before he signed?

People tend to forget that the manager has a major part to play in fitness, morale and form.

For all we know, LvG might turn him into a beast again.

I think he's a lot better than given credit for. On par with Vertonghen at his best.
which was 3 years ago, since he hs been injured pretty much constantly and even when he has played looked nothing like the player that first went to arsenal.

at least RVP had a good 18 months before he signed for us, where he was in the best for of his career up to that point and pretty much injury free.

Vermaelens injurys and form have been getting worse year on year.... just saying you never know he may turn things around is a bit of a weak argument compared to looking at his record over the past few year in both fittness and form and going.... f**king hell why would you touch that player with a barge poll?

Good to know you all know more than both Manchester United's and Barcelona's hierarchy anyway.

You make it sound like neither club has pissed away money on a dud transfer when both have done it more than once in the last few years alone.

I have no doubt in my mind that he will turn out to be a terrific signing if he comes to us. The quality is there, and we have fecking LvG to bring it out of his Dutch-speaking soldier.

well all plaudits and everything for having blind faith.... but your basing it on nothing but hope that all the evidence is wrong.... i hope your right, but be prepared for a big disappointment

RvP only wanted to come to us and we paid in comparison to this 15m valuation peanuts for him. If it's true and he wants to come here then why pay 15m?

Arsenal have two choices. Sell or keep him and go on a free. We all know they're a selling club.

These are the same sort of comments that come out when we make signings like Fellaini. Every club is allowed to screw up every now again, it doesn't make Vermaelen a better player because two clubs are in for him.

Loads of multi-trophy winning football managers in this thread...

I'd say LvG has already shown enough to deserve the right to buy a player without the fans throwing their toys out of the pram.

In any case, I'd say TV's injuries and poor form are over exaggerated. He's a good player.

He has got a history of stupid transfer decisions (Braafheid, Tymoshuck, not wanting Neuer etc) he is made. If Van Gaal earned that right obviously SAF earned it aswell, yet he has got it wrong on so many occassions aswell (Hargreaves, Anderson , Nani, Young, Valencia, Obertan, Owen, Bébé, the whole Pogba situation...) that fans have every right to be concerned about such things. If you know his injurry record and you know that he hasn't been in top form for over 2 seasons he is a risky signing. You can kill any argument over a transfer by saying LVG is a great manager so he knows what he is doing and that is enough for me. It is total bullshit !

LVG is a manager that is too safe for my taste in the transfermarket. He seems reluctant to sign players he hasn't worked with at previous clubs or haven't been recommended by him someone who holds in high regards. Obviously RVP has been fighting Vermaelens case in front of LVG, than there is the fact he is a player from the Ajax academy so he shares the same vision on football as LVG, top that off with being left footed and having a ton of experience and leadership capabilities and it is enough to let LVG forget about the fact he hasn't been playing on an acceptable level for like 2 years, is virtually crocked and Arsenal are demanding outrageous demands.

He is a quality player, but when a player is as injury prone as Abou Diaby, you better walk away.

I think the way most people see this is:

For < £10m = Sure, why not.
For £10m > = Get fecked.

A great deal of people who worry about the price, think they are playing a football manager game for real, some just get mortally offended at other clubs taking advantage of our spending power........ but there again, Woodward does mention it a fair bit.

Well, he isnt..

Anyway, I think this is a perfect situation for Arsenal. It drives up TVs price.

In the two last years, he has been injured a lot

I just think that most people can see when we are getting a bad deal. An injury prone defender in the last year of his contract for 15 million? That's a bad deal whatever way you look at it.

It's more about Arsenal taking us for ride and over-valuing a player.

Jesus, that's a horrific injury record. Do not want.

The good thing with his injury streak is that the source is easy to spot. It's his back problem. If he managed to fix them, he won't be injured that much.

I hate comments like this. Firstly, it's a forum, people will give their opinions and secondly, even the hierarchy of a great club can make mistakes. Just look at Bebe and Fellaini as obvious examples...

Do not want. I usually trust LVG, but this guy is a crock, a shite defender and would cost around £15m which is about £5-7m overpriced. Sell him to Barcelona, Arsenal.

So less injuries than Rooney.

This is turning out just like the Van Persie transfer. Up to Vermaelen now to make it clear he only wants to move to us.

Wouldn't be surprised if we sign him next week especially if his preference is United.

To be fair to Rooney he does recover very quickly usually.
