Television Tho Prop Grops Throps

Really odd second half of the show after a surprisingly good first. Orton vs Wyatt fell completely flat, I don't know my Wrestlemania history but that must be one of the worst matches to be billed as a main event.

I don't have an issue with Reigns retiring Undertaker if he's booked to be the next biggest heel since HHH (who was UNcharismatic in his time when standalone and forever relied on factions to put him over with gimmicks).

I just wish they made Undertaker look stronger than he did. A marginal loss would have been more palatable than a dominant one. Undertaker probably wanted to show his true age for the first time in years which would help fans understand its the right time to go.

Putting the main event aside I thought Wyatt Orton was very flat, like a normal smackdown or raw match really. Jericho Owens could have been better too. Bayley to win was the right move but the ending felt bodged somewhat.

Loved AJ, ladder match, Goldberg lesnar and Rollins was more than just OK too.

  • Neville (c) v. Austin Aries - Very good match to start off with
  • Battle Royale - Was decent, I thought Zayn or Strowman should have won. Celebrity did a thing, I hope this is useful for Mojo
  • Ambrose v Corbin - underwhelming, meh
  • AJ v Shane - Decent match but AJ deserves more, they still pulled off a good match
  • KO v Jericho - I think the match was very good but could have done with being a little longer and having a bigger climax
  • Bayley v Charlotte v Sasha Banks v Nia Jax - Started off well but fell a bit flat towards the end, if it had Charlotte's streak on the line it would be been much better
  • Gallows & Anderson v Enzo & Cass v Cesaro & Sheamus v The Hardy Boyz - Moment of the night when The Hardy Boyz came out, and also the match of the night for me. I hope the Hardy Boyz can inject some life into the tag team division
  • Cena/Bella v Miz/Maryse - Was a fun match but Miz should have gone over. I think they still could have done the proposal anyway.
  • Seth v HHH - Very good match, maybe a tad underrated. This is how you do a street fight Brock.
  • Orton v Wyatt - Wyatt's parlour tricks were cool but this was underwhelming. Does Orton need a title reign?
  • Brock v Goldberg - Missed some but it was pretty much what it needed to be. Short and action packed, we can forget about their first match now.
  • Women's 6 pack match - Should have been longer, right person won. Ok match
  • Reigns v Taker - It was ok, the storytelling was good enough. I don't think Roman was ready for a match of this magnitude or to carry an ageing Taker to a great match. I think they made Roman look too strong, I would've had him absolutely give everything to win and barely walk out the ring. Taker's final moment were emotional.

I'd give this 7/10, it had some very good moments and is one of the better Wrestlemanias. If the women's matches or Orton v Wyatt had been better it would score higher. Reigns turning heel would have also elevated the show.

Smackdown rumour:

Nakamura apparently could debut on Smackdown to make their WM fall out show as hyped as Raw.

Neville v Austin Aries and Shane v AJ Styles were the two best matches I thought. Great finish to Neville match.

The Battle Royal was crap and a waste of Big Show, Strowman even Mark Henry. Sami Zayn didn't do much either. As for the security trying to stop that bloke coming in the least said the better.

Ambrose v Corbin - I felt should have been on the main card, but Corbin seemed to get beat too easily after not much attack from Ambrose.

Owens v Jericho - was expecting Samoa Joe to come down and help Owens win so I was surprised he won cleanly.

Women's fatal 4 way - was alright, Charlotte was the better wrestler in the match and I didn't expect Bayley to retain.

Ladder match - knew when the Hardys came out they would be handed the belts, didn't really see much of them during the middle of the match though.
Wish Enzo and Cass would at least change their routine a bit, Enzo is good on the mic but he repeats the same thing every week and gets boring. Just glad New Day weren't in it.

Cena, Nikki, Miz and Maryse - Just seemed like some cheap gimmick to pass the time, be a better finish if Nikki used her own moves instead of Cena's. Very boring match.
The proposal at the end just played into what Miz had been saying about him beforehand.

Seth Rollins v Triple H - Decent match but if Seth was genuinely hurting his knee then you'd think he would do moves that take the focus away from using that.
Steph looked good and nice fall through the table.

Smackdown women - Didn't think it needed to be so high up on the card, but not a bad match.

Orton v Wyatt - Nice touch with the ring but overused. Another one I didn't see coming with the winner. I like Bray but he is very limited in his ring abilities.

Goldberg v Lesnar - it's like each wrestler only knows two moves each, german suplex and spear and their finishers. Another boring match and hopefully the last we see of it.

Roman Reigns v Undertaker - Looked like a bit of a heel turn when Roman kept using the chair, good ending with the retirement angle.

Overall a few good or decent matches but the rest were fillers.

So looking forward to raw. Hopefully see Balor return and merk up Brock

feck sake mate I feel a bit destroyed today after 1am Friday, 3am for Takeover on Saturday and then 4-5am last night. I'm telling myself already that I'm staying up to watch some of Raw tonight but not sure my body can handle it

 same. I woke up at 4am to watch it then drive to work at 8. Just drove back home, said i feel sick. My body can't deall with this. Gonna sleep now

Balor winning the title of Brock on Raw to end the show in a suprise would be great and give Brock a chance to disappear until Summerslam.
Shame if the title is once again on hiatus for a while. But then again, feck Raw.

They wont pass the Universal title again I don't think. It's already changed far too much in its short existence.

Yep, im in agreement with this. I think Brock will work more dates this year esp as champion, but still have long periods where we see no title on Raw lol

The thing is Brock being defeated in a real battle at some point could be an incredible way of elavating a younger guy. Reigns at this point does not need that rub and the prospect of Reigns V Lesnar is so very unappealing.

Watched the Pre-show last night and fell asleep after. So here we go, let's do this! Bet no one will read it, but feck it.

Xavier's hair. Wow. I have no words. Fecking Cole trying to get in his final fantasy references. Sigh.

Looks like Shane didn't give his dad a nice gift for Fathers Day. No flashy entrance, no Shane-o-dollars. Nothing. White attire AJ is the fecking shit though, let's be honest lads. The crowd shouting his name gave me goosebumps. Little dissapointed in the early lockup in a "bitter grudgematch", but looks like Shane wants to prove he can hang. Wow, Shane's DDT and that fecking Shooting Star Press man?! This was fun.

The one and only Youtube sensation......... Silence. LOL

A feckING LIGHT UP SCARF. Jericho is the GOAT. Pretty fun match but didn't really live up to the hype for me. Nice for Owens to get the win though!

Woman's match was okay, I never really got into it, and the victory felt a bit hollow since Bayley already had the title win.

feck, shouting You Suck at Angle is such a weird thing.

Sheamus and Cesaro have had such an amusing storyline and this entrance alone made it worth it, on the same page and getting a good spot on the card when they both deserve it. No warpaint on Gallows, that's a shame. I was spoiled beforehand, but I marked the feck out for The Hardyz. Pretty good clusterfeck of a match.

Average gyrantions from Nikki. Usually means she's losing the match. I would love it if Miz and Maryse win this one. John is getting gassed just running down that fecking ramp. Already scared for Goldberg's life. So they are hugging an old hag, Cena's got to propose now. Hope Nikki kicks him in the dick and on Smackdown they do a live sex celebration between Nikki, Maryse and the Miz. RUSSO SWERVE!

( 10 minutes later ) ARGH FECK.

Fecking hell Triple H's entrance. Bet he saw the cop gimmick that Goldberg used to have and decided he wanted to go over on him subtly. Steph sitting back there like a dominatrix goddess. Neat. Seth's gear is the fecking shit, and that long ramp really made the entrance work. Come on Seth, win this match to the lukewarm reception of the crowd because this angle has been going on for too long. Did we just see Steph get some semblance of comeuppance?! OH MY, I wish Foley was alive to see this. Great to see seth go over, now give us a nice Triple H, Joe and KO stable doing nasty shit.

Those fireflies man. What's with all the champions coming out first? Shit like that makes titles feel so unimportant. One of the matches I'm really looking forward to, to be honest. I see Randy brought out the big bucks for his entrance attire? although the golden pyro is a nice throwback. God yes give me more of Wyatt doing this super weird shit. feck off Orton. This match didn't deliver.

Oh now the camp comes out last. I'm enjoying this mania, but some of this shit is so anoying. Brock throwing out Merch like Cena would was the weirdest thing to me. I thought he didn't give a shit about kids!? Oh look, he wins the belt. Looking forward to seeing him lose it at next years Mania to Reigns.

Mickie, what the feck. This feels like such a dick move, just giving them semi-entrances even though their work has been damn goot on Smackdown. Naomi's entrance was pretty cool though, getting that sweet hometown pop. Still want Bliss to start using the world's tiniest chokeslam, but you know. I would have liked this win better if she hadn't won it before, but i can at least understand the reasoning.

Jeez the boo's for Roman. No Holds Barred all of a sudden? Smart, make it a spotfest so you can work around Taker's limits. Second year in a row where Roman main events in a slow paced brawling match with an opponent that does him no favors. I don't hate Roman, I like the man and how he works. But WWE seems to try and work so hard to make it as dificult as possible for him. So it's no holds barred and shit, but rope breaks are still enforced? Okay. feck this was kinda sad. Roman worked his ass off and Taker really tried, but I think it's good that he's walking off into the sunset, he earned it. "Stay Down, Don't do this" felt very apt from Reigns. Reading through the thread I'm seeing a lot of posts bashing Reigns for not being a good wrestler, which I am really starting to hate. Roman is fine, he's not the absolute best but he's having good-to-great matches all around. As I said, I don't think Roman is getting any favors from being in the ultimate underdog role and we'd all accept it a lot more if commentary just went: Yeah he's a brick shithouse and can dominate Taker.

I liked this Mania, although it did fall off a little.

In retrospect( now that I have calmed down from the fact that the Hardyz are back) I felt like the match could have been longer and had more moments. Still fantastic
Raw now has:
The Hardy Boyz
Sheacesaro
Gallows and Anderson
Enzo and Big Cass
The New Day

Mind boggling. I just hope that they can make use of most of them. Too much talent to have any one of those guys idle.

Yeah Roman is fine. I just dont think he is great. He still needs help. Hes not on a Cena level where he can pull out classic matches to turn crowds during it.

To be fair, even if he did put on a Cena esque match the crowd still wouldn't get into it because its Reigns.

I think they would. They got into his match with AJ tbf. I think WWE themselves are doing no favours to Reigns and need to take the majority of the blame with how hes reacted to.
They showed they can have him cheered if done right (eg when he won the title of Sheamus in freakin Philly haha).

I like Bray but he is very limited in his ring abilities.
Frankly, I believe that this comes down to the fact that Orton and Bray have zero chemistry. Zero. Nada. Zilch. They never work well together and have never put on a match that wasn't so subpar.

At the end of the day, if a wrestler is given 3 Wrestlemania main events in a row against anyone (let alone against guys with a handful of matches left with young talent), any fan would be bored. We'd all feel like they're overcooking the push even if it was a wrestler we love like AJ Styles.

True. I forgot about the their classic on TLC.
With the way Reigns has been booked, I kind of get the feeling that they're trying to have him be the replacement for part timers like Brock Lesnar and Goldberg--A beast who who is impossible to stop.

In regards the Hardys - My wife just sent me a video of the, that she found on snapchat (I presume it's from WWE's account) where they were very much broken.

"The Club's title reign is now OBSOLETE. Because the Hardys have DELETED it. Yesssss"

OK, Wrestlemania thoughts. I've avoided all of the social media today so this better be worth it.

Pre-Show:

I'm skipping through this to get to the matches, and Jerry Lawler turned into Lita. Upgrade.

Austin Aries vs. Neville

There's a pretty nice series from the corner, after Aries goes for a Tornado DDT style move.
I always like the look of these outdoor Wrestlemanias.
Swear I just saw a sign saying Shaw. Jose Mourinho just cancelled his network subscription. (Turns out it says SUAW. Whatever that is).
I will never not mark for a Deadlift German Suplex. Or any kind of German Suplex. I just love Suplexes.
Although I do like the outdoor Wrestlemania thing, it looks like the wind is blowing Neville's hair right in his eyes. That's got to be annoying.
Pretty solid match.

Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal

This ramp looks long. Maybe not as long as the Rumble one, but they can't get dudes a cart? How you going to play Braun, WWE? Making him walk?
Wait, is that Luke Harper? He was allowed in! I like the new ring gear too (is that new? I think it is)
Aww, Braun's gone. This is a dark time.
I don't watch much WWE these days, and this match is just constant "wow, he's still there?"
Ziggler keeps looking like he's going and then staying in, and it's a really disappointing metaphor for his career.
Mojo is my new favourite wrestler.
That lad from the Highlanders really put on weight.
Some footballer I don't care about is going after some wrestler I don't care about.
Mojo is still in this. I was actually joking about you being my new favourite, Mojo.
We're down to Mojo Rawley and Jindar Mahal. Whoever wins, we all lose.
Mojo wins.
What world is this?

Dean Ambrose vs. Baron Corbin

I really don't care about this match.
"Ambrose just doesn't care" Oh good, we have something in common.
OK, Corbin booting Ambrose in the face to counter the pendulum clothesline thing was cool.
That match happened.

Wrestlemania 33

I wish it was easier to skip through Network videos. I wanted to skip the anthem singing, accidentally ended up in the middle of the Shane/AJ match, and had to go back (to some New Day segment).

Shane McMahon vs. AJ Styles

This is a real good news/bad news scenario. The good news is AJ Styles is wrestling at Wrestlemania. The bad news is it's against Shane.
OK, that Wrestlemania set looks awesome. I should have mentioned it before, but damn.
If there wasn't a barricade there, I'm pretty sure Shane would have sold that dropkick into the table by sliding all the way out of the arena.
Was that a bloody Angle Slam?
This is actually way better than I was expecting. I mean, I'd much rather AJ vs. a full-time wrestler, but for what it is, this has been good.
There's no way Shane should be being made to look this good. What exactly does it accomplish?
WHY IS HE DOING SHOOTING STAR PRESSES? I both hate this and love this.
What a strange match. There's no way a part-timer (he's barely even that, he's technically a non-wrestler stepping outside of his comfort zone) should be going toe-to-toe with a former WWE Champion, and one of the best wrestlers in the world. By rights AJ should have won this match in about twenty seconds. But Shane actually did very well in this match, and you have to respect him. So in terms of overall context within the WWE, that was pretty dumb, as a standalone match I really enjoyed that. It got to the point where it was like Fast & Furious where you could watch it going "OH THIS IS BULLSHIT VIN DIESEL SHOULD BE DEAD BY NOW" or you can just go "eh, feck it" and have fun with it.

Kevin Owens vs. Chris Jericho

That scarf though. 10/10.
Wow, I don't think I've ever seen the Cannonball done on the apron before.
Jericho countering two Owens flying moves with knees, but to be fair a guy the size of Owens landing on you is going to hurt even if you get your knees up. SELL DAMMIT JERICHO.
I love guys stealing their opponent's moves. Thumbs up for this.
Although to be fair I don't think we're getting a Pop-Up Powerbomb from Jericho.
I liked that Pop-Up Powerbomb into the Codebreaker.
Yes referee, "FINNERONNAROPE" indeed.
That's a good match. Enjoyed that.

Bayley vs. Nia Jax vs. Sasha Banks vs. Charlotte

I always think Nia's theme sounds way too cheerful for what she's supposed to be.
OH SASHA GETS A CAR? Braun is too good for this company.
Three Woman Powerbomb on Nia. I'm having flashbacks to The Shield.
I feel like the elimination stipulation of the match actually hurt it somewhat, making them fit three eliminations into about ten minutes. It either needed to be a plain Fatal Fourway, or go a bit longer. And I think I'd have had Nia be a bigger part of it, it would have been a nice dynamic if they'd taken her out when they did, but she came back in later.

That may be the most respectful "you suck" chant of all time. It's strange to think Angle was only in WWE for eight years. I'd consider him one of the very best in the world in the first half of the 2010s, if not the best.

Enzo Amore & Big Cass vs. Cesaro & Sheamus vs. Gallows & Anderson

I'm getting really sick of Enzo. I may be alone, but I am so ready for Cass to go solo.
Cesaro & Sheamus was a really great idea for a team. I like it.
Wait, are New Day entering themselves into this match?
HOLY SHIT.
I notice Matt's still got the Broken Matt white stripe in his hair. That may mean nothing, but if they stick around it'll be interesting to see what gimmick he uses.
I just realised my dream (that I've only just had) of a Shane vs. Jeff match where they just take turns jumping off things is now potentially a reality.
Matt & Jeff must be confused here. This may be the first match they've been in where they haven't had the stupidest hair. (I was talking about Enzo, but I've just spotted Sheamus, and...him too).
I love Cesaro & Sheamus.
Jeff Hardy is an actual lunatic.
Wow that was fun.
Wait no Shane is on Smackdown. They've just won the RAW titles. My dreams :(.

John Cena & Nikki Bella vs. The Miz & Maryse

Wow, Cena calling Miz & Maryse the Shhhhh...it couple. That's so edgy, Christian just tried to team with it.
It's getting to the point now where going through the various commentators is taking as long as some matches.
JBL calling Miz a cross between Gregory Peck and Ken Shamrock. Now I can't stop imagining Shamrock in To Kill A Mockingbird.
Well that happened.

Oh my god that is adorable.

Triple H vs. Seth Rollins

OH MY GOD CHUCK PALUMBO IS BACK.
Oh, it's Triple H. feck this company.
Um, could somebody tell Seth the olympics aren't in Florida this year? Also there are no Olympics this year. Also Goldust really needs that outfit back, he's wandering around backstage in the nude.
This match is doing nothing for me. It's actually quite dull.
Steph taking a table bump was pretty fun (and kudos to her), but I did not enjoy this match.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. PEOPLE WHO WATCHED THIS LIVE HAD TO SIT THROUGH PITBULL?
HAHAHAHAHAHA.
HAHAHAHAHA.

Randy Orton vs. Bray Wyatt

I almost had to type "Bray wins because maggots" and I do not appreciate that.
I feel like maybe they should have had one of the more "fun" matches between the Seth/HHH match and this one. They're quite similar in their "methodic" nature.
This is actually dumb as feck. The giant insects thing, I mean.
I want to forget that match happened.

Brock Lesnar vs. Goldberg

Could they not have put Goldberg in a lockerroom closer to the ramp? They know he does this. They know the ramp is longer. It's just poor planning.
The dude who wrote Goldberg's theme once thought "ah, nobody's going to hear this far." He did not forsee this.
It feels like I accidentally skipped forward, but no, this is actually the match.
Well, I suppose it was quick, so I can't complain.
I feel like in a few years time, when I'm doing a "can you name all the WWE Universal Champions" quiz, Goldberg's going to be the guy I forget.

Women's Six Pack Challenge

I'm honestly too lazy to type out all the names.
I feel like I need to turn down the brightness on my monitor because of Naomi's attire.
Oh, it's over. That was quick.

Roman Reigns vs. The Undertaker

It's great to hear JR again.
This has been OK. The No DQ stipulation has helped them.
It's kind of a shame that the fans seem to have absolutely no time for Reigns. He's done well here, but it seems like he could hit a Phoenix Splash and cure cancer, but his past booking has turned the crowd against him.
So when does Roman whisper "I'm sorry, I love you" before hitting the Sweet Chin Music?
There we go, Reigns wins it. If that had been the match that actually ended the streak, it would have maybe been a better moment. Still a huge win for Reigns, and the storytelling in the match was very good.
If it is Undertaker's last match (and I hope it is, otherwise he's going to turn into the Arsene Wenger of WWE), then I think it was about as good as it could have been.

So, I enjoyed Wrestlemania overall. I feel like the first half was stronger than the second, but that might have been because five hours of wrestling in a go is a lot to digest (for me, anyway). If I was going to rate it, I'd say something like a 6 or 7 out of 10. 6.5 then.

I thought Wrestlemania was a bit meh all in all but I had a fecking great night winding that dumbass @Rolandofgilead up all night. Great fun, he's just so easy too. Like a $2 hooker, and just as rough. Love ya really mate x x x x x

I thought 'Mania was really good this year. Rollins/Trips was awesome, as was the ladder match. AJ carried Shane to a great match like an absolute superhero. JeriKO was great as was the CW match. I enjoyed the main event and BrockBerg was as good as you could have expected from the two. The Raw Women's match need another 10 minutes, as did the mixed tag and the WWE title match which both ended incredibly abruptly. Ambrose/Corbin and the SD Women's matches had no place being on a 'Mania card and seem like they should have been on a SD 'B' PPV where they'd at least get a decent amount of time, while the Andre was the complete waste of time that it always is.

So no spoiler
No but while i have you here let me run you through a few things to help you along here.

1. No fecking spoilers ffs. There will be a few of us that very rarely miss PPVs and we chat in this thread while they are in progress. If for whatever reason we miss the event we know we are safe to come on the caf because we won't open this thread. Starting your own thread with a spoiler in the fecking title is a big no-no.

2. The Undertaker would almost certainly have had the choice who to retire too and the decision for it to be Reigns would have been Takers. He is a traditional pro wrestling guy. You could do with learning some pro wrestling etiquette, we in this thread will be happy to help you if you want.

3. Non wrestling fans will never understand our love of pro wrestling, starting wrestling threads outside of this one makes us all look bad.

There are some very good pro wrestling fans on here mate, pull your neck in and get involved but remember thst if others disagree with your opinion, discuss don't dismiss.

The real question on everyone's mind is, who opens Raw?

Seth the Kingslayer?
Brock as the new Raw Champion?
Reigns?
Pitbull?
