Television Tho Prop Grops Throps

The WWE network is set to launch in the UK and Ireland on Jan the 19th then.

Cheaper by a matter of cent, but is dependent on currency so probably worth the convenience factor.

Been pointed out elsewhere that last time it "launched" they turned off geoblocking in Ireland, such that you could access content on just the USA subscription of $9.99 without VPN.

My vpn is setup literally all of the time though, i woked it out that i pay £9.37 for the two services combined, but it will fluctuate with the exchange rate obviously, but the difference just isn't worth fecking about with the set up.

I get that, but if its only for the network there's currently (based on previous launch) no reason for the vpn anymore if its just a geoblock. Signing up didn't need a VPN from memory. American account, no geoblocking, even cheaper network.

Could knock about 4 quid off.

It's irrelevant to me though because i use the VPN for other stuff you see, so i would be paying it anyway.

Ishi vs Makabe is the type of match I live for.

Nakamura vs Ibushi was fecking brilliant.

How the feck am I supposed to go back to watching wwe after that wrestle Kingdom?

Well they had another show today, it'll all be in Japanese but should be a good quality setting up the next tour.

I only know of NJPW World that'll have it though (most people who would put them on dailymotion etc… have stopped because NJPW World is SO cheap though)

Ishi vs Makabe is the type of match I live for.

It was a relatively game Ishii match. Let that sink in for a moment.

Saw a great tweet (retweeted) that said "Ishii is like a fridge. A fridge that you have pissed off."

I'm pretty sure it was me who RT'd it. This one?

Is the Network worth it in the long run beyond the road to Mania?

I've read there are barely Raws from the Attitude Era which would be my main reason for watching beyond the PPVs.

The report says the hold up was due to an issue with sky over the network showing PPV's. This has now (hopefully) been sorted out.

Yeah Sky have made it clear for a while that they weren't happy with the WWE. As we have mentioned before, the UK had most of the PPV events free of charge on Sky (and Channel 4 for a bit)

I'd love to know who pushed for them becoming PPV over here. Was it Sky being greedy? or WWE putting their prices up or asking they be shown as PPV events?

There's mixed info about the new Sky deal with some saying the UK will still get 3 free PPV events and some saying we will now get none at all. If that's the case then it just wouldn't be worth buying a Sky PPV again if you plan on watching all 12 each year, but ok if you only watch one or two. You would like to think that this could force Sky to reduce the prices of the PPV events, but that won't happen. It's also puts the whole future of WWE/SKY in to question.

There's no free PPV anymore and the price of every single one is being increased to cover lost revenue from the reduced buys.

Well thats the thing about it, you can get it in the run to Mania and if you don't want to keep it then don't. For me it is, I watch NXT and the old PPVs are entertaining.

I'm going to subscribe for Rumble and Mania and I'll probably end up keeping it but I'm hearing the library is a bit bare atm.

Hmmm, surely there's going to be more hassle with Sky over this, wouldn't be surprised if the date is pushed back again.

I can't imagine they would risk the bad PR of pushing it back again. It'll get released but I wouldn't be surprised if there is some caveats (PPVs on a time delay?)

There's absolutely no chance.

The issue last time was WWE underestimated how good Sky's legal people were in putting together contracts, which meant that they couldn't undercut Sky by releasing such a service while that contract was still active. It's no longer active.

WWE didn't read the small print.

Well that's ridiculous.

Why push the price up? Surely the idea would be to reduce the price to attract more people (like me) to buy every single one rather than switching to the WWE Network? It's stupid, with PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Smart TV it's so easy to get WWE Network. Pushing the PPV price up just makes getting WWENW even more attractive than it already is.

It's no longer active.

It was only renewed in January last year and only starts, well now, from January this year until 2019.

It's the most logical thing on earth. If the number of buys drops vastly then you increase the price to increase the money you make off the idiots still paying for PPV. They're not going to be able to undercut the Network so why lose money trying?

Errrr, exactly… the deal that started (or starts, not sure on specific dates) is written in a way to allow the Network. The previous deal was watertight with regards to any service like the Network.

I've watched Nakamura vs Ibushi 3 times so far. It's quite possibly my new favourite match of all time.

It certainly helps that in Nakamura there's a once in a lifetime performer, to have THAT much charisma backed up by THAT much wrestling skill. It's nigh on perfect.

They're not going to be able to undercut the Network so why lose money trying?

Obviously not, but they could try to compete with it, or make it only slightly more expensive.

It doesn't work like that though. And to be honest, that's extremely bad business sense. Increasing the price will only push more people away and put more people off. It's handing the WWENW more subscribers. So they are in effect going to lose even more money by putting the price up as they will lose more viewers by doing so. Any business owner will tell you that if someone else comes along and offers the same service/item(s) you do, then the last thing you do is put the price up. It's completely counter productive.

Changing the subject a little, is the WWENW broadcast in HD?

They can't compete. That's the point.

The only people who will buy PPV with the Network around are the dinosaurs who don't trust online streaming. That's it. It doesn't matter how much you increase it by (it's going up about a fiver I think) they'll pay it because the basic trust in the service isn't there.

It's the only sensible way Sky could go about it.

Yes.

I get that Sky can't undercut the network.

What I don't get is how the network actually benefits the WWE. For something that specific and with a limited audience base...it must be losing them shit loads of money already and will kill them if they lose coverage on the TV networks as a result.

They're taking away their ability to reach casual fans or attract new ones.

I've heard rumours that Sky are dropping NXT and main event too. It's just a shame that the WWE network won't be showing Raw and Smackdown (they will still be exclusive to sky). I've been thinking of cancelling sky sports for a while but have kept it for the wrestling and the United matches.

It sounds like the Network will get a Raw/smackdown encore one Month after they air. Who is going to watch it a month late?

They won't lose coverage on any network, so now they're getting 100% of 9.99 rather than whatever percentage they were getting from PPV providers, and in theory the reduced price means there's also more people paying it. This is on top of the TV deals and extra advertising stream the Network provides.

A month? FFS.

I know, it sucks monkey balls. When I heard that the network was going to get an encore showing I assumed it would be 3-4 days later so Sky still got it live and exclusive. But a fecking month later is taking the piss.

Well we can agree to disagree then. Simply because.....

Surely that's worth the price of Sky Sports in itself?

I'd gladly and happily continue paying if all of our matches were shown, but some months they'll only show one game.

Fair enough, and with BT Sports having a few and from next season having the Champions League matches as well I suppose if that's all you want it for it's not worth it. Lucky I have it for the football, golf, darts, wrestling and cricket.
