Oh Steph.

hahah Steph :D

What is TNA? I mean, if you were going to promote TNA, what would you say makes it "an alternative"? I dont even think TNA can answer that question which is the biggest problem. They have such a solid roster and a good story here and there which is overshadowed by being a WWE light.

Used to be the extreme/high flying stuff. These days it's just a wannabe WCW 2000.

Yeah and thats the problem. Biggest problem they have, they have no identity. My favourite TNA fued was for the tag titles where they had Outlaws (WWF) vs Dudleys (ECW) vs Steiners (WCW) pretty much putting over their previous fed but not really making much mention of TNA. Was kinda hilarious.

Apparently TNA is vaguely big in the UK. Like gets better ratings, which are of course obviously flawed since well Raw is on at like 2am.....and both shows get endless replays on Sky. But it's tours seem to sell far better than they do in America where pictures of hidden empty arenas are a common thing now -_-

Off work this week so staying up for Summerslam tonight. Looking forward to Cena v Lesnar and Paige...not AJ, just Paige.

Also helps when the channel TNA is broadcast on in the UK can be picked up on freeview digital.

Well there's a question.

Let's say I was head writer of TNA, the first thing I would do is stop the talent speaking of wwe on air, stop trying to start a war you can't possibly win.

Secondly I would be promoting the younger stars, scout the globe for excellent workers and start hiring them and putting fantastic matches on my shows, utilise them rather than the older ex wwe wrestlers that can't draw anymore, for example on an episode of impact I would book the two best young stars into the main event with a championship match stipulation and all the way through the show I would have cut aways and have the older guys build up what a good match it is going to be, so there would be pre recorded comments from kurt angle, bully ray, mr Anderson etc all of them saying how excited they are for the match etc, this would help get both wrestlers over.

Then I would go back to the routes of wrestling and become slightly more traditional, more wrestling, special matches such as iron man matches.

Offer what the wwe doesn't, more unpredictability, it keeps people interested, it makes people want to tune in each week.

They had such an opportunity to challenge bit they went about it all wrong but that's what I would do for starters.

Paul Heyman made the same point regarding your second point and I agree with it. TNA gets its biggest pop from debuts of former WWE talent that were released or for still talking about ECW.

TNA should be an alternative right now because thats what fans want. They want logic, compelling stories and characters and competition for titles. WWE can get away with not doing it because they have 90%+ of the market anyway. Whenever you speak to a proper TNA fan (by that I mean a TNA fan who slates WWE) their biggest argument is that WWE is just as stupid. TNA should be tring to eliminate stupidity altogether .

Heyman made one point, anybody "old" should be gone. Not as a disrespectful thing, but lets be honest, how can you build an alternative show around somebody that has been in the business for ages and made their mark elsewhere and are coming to their end.
In fact, the night Eric Young won the title, there was no build but they had him win two matches (and that was just after WM when Bryan did it). And on the next Impact, they had Dixie come out and say something like "the era of bearded champions is her idea and anybody else doing it should pay her royalties" or some BS like that. Your main point should have been there since the start, never talk about WWE.

This is the biggest frustration as a wrestling fan. Here you have TNA who have the method of distribution (Spike TV), the money (Panda power) and the talent (their roster of young talent is quite good) but there are no stories, no characters and no build for anybody (thus no actual brand). Frustrating as they have the tools but cant deliver.

I remember WCW being on Cartoon Network/TNN when I was in school...I got into WWE around the time Kane first appeared and that was mainly what hooked me in. That and Raw back then would be awesome and unpredictable every week...miles better than the PPVs even. Eventually everyone at school was basically obsessed with it. As people grew up it gradually got less interesting.

The thing that gets me is when you watch now you can basically predict everything and the shows all seem to have set formats that they never deviate from. It's probably partly due to not being a kid anymore, but also partly due to the shows being entirely more predictable than they used to be. There's no "I have to keep watching to see what happens next" factor at all.

I could never get into WCW but I only tried after I was into WWE, so possibly after it started becoming a bit shite? It always just seemed really dull. Only one of my mates at school was into it, and he's the only one I know who's still really into wrestling now. Every year when WWE come over he tries to drag people to one of the shows.

ECW was fun in really small doses

I liked wcw nitro when it was at its best but I always preferred WWE

For 2 years ECW was the best I had ever seen from any wrestling promotion. It was shit hot

ECW really showed how good a promoter heyman really was, he took what was essentially a core base of mediocre wrestlers then added a plethora of talent that had been overlooked by the main 2 companies and played to their strengths, in fact if TNA hired heyman as the booker and everybody else backed off and just did as he said then he would probably turn the company around.

The biggest problem is that Dixie carter hasn't got a clue what she's doing, she is currently playing a heel authority figure (badly) and is trying to act as a vince or a Steph and it just doesn't work. She hired bischoff and hogan and quickly tried to restart the Monday night wars by moving impact to Mondays but they were far from ready and it lasted about a month, bischoff and hogan were under the impression that is was still 1995 and they were so out of touch it was unreal. So then she turned to Dutch mantel to write, but she micro managed everything he did and watered down his work and so that obviously failed and she eventually turned to vince Russo who literally hasn't got a clue how to book a wrestling show, he survived in the business by writing wacky backstage skits during the attitude era, most of what he wrote was vetted by vince and 9 out of every 10 ideas Russo had was thrown out, the guy is a moron.

Save your energy, I accepted a long time ago that most people just don't get it, it's their loss not ours

Nah, me and Eboue are friendly about it all. He reads about WWI in his free time.

Missed most of it since Wrestlemania - have the Shield and Wyatts broken up? Has that turned out well? I always thought WWE broke up stables/tag teams far too quickly.

Wyatts are still together though there are concerns about character stagnation with Bray following him losing the Cena feud and a hit and miss feud with Jericho. He loses too often to have serious heat.

Shield put on some very good matches as faces against Evolution before Rollins turned on them, joined the Authority and is now feuding with Ambrose who is doing some very good work as an unbalanced face.

The Rollins heel turn was actually quite shocking when it happened.

Aye, the problem with Bray would be how WWE booked him. He isn't a great wrestler, he's a great personality. Having a personality like that lose just makes him a little pointless. They've missed a trick here.

They're who I'd like to win. As for who my €2 is on, the odds are interesting. Cena is 15/8 to win while Lesnar is 4/11. Bookies get it right 99.9% of the time on WWE but Cena's odds are low enough to convince me that there might be a shock. Brie and Steph are both 5/6 to win, same for Ambrose and Rollins.

Cena
Reigns
Rollins
AJ
Brie
Wyatt
Swagger
Miz
Cesaro

are my picks for my bet. Betting on WWE is a good laugh. It adds way more drama to close calls and false finishes!

They actually take bets on this crap? Wow.

If I actually could be arsed i'd plump my life savings on Lesnar winning tonight. It's a given, and he's not losing to Cena twice in a row.

I'm sure a lot of people did the same with Taker winning at 30. Betting big on WWE is way too risky after that happened.
